Book Synopsis Equipping the Saints by : A. Jack Nester
Download or read book Equipping the Saints written by A. Jack Nester and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book for those who are serious about active involvement in ministry whether as a disciple or part of the Five-Fold Ministry. The purpose of the book is to provide a solid foundation of academic, practical tools, on-the-job training and anointing to equip people for a Holy Spirit led and empowered ministry. This course of study was originally developed to equip members of Fellowship of Believers Church but was expanded for use by oversight pastors to equip individuals preparing for full-time ministry. It has proven effective in use by local churches as well as preparing pastors in other countries and is a book that should be in every believer's library. Dr. Jack Nester, Jr. has served as pastor for 33 years. He was originally ordained as a United Methodist. He was baptized with the Holy Spirit in 1977 and this experience changed his vision about what God intended for the Church and Christians. Jack has been privileged to minister God's love, deliverance and healing power in Africa, Haiti, Mexico, among Native American groups in the United States, mining communities, ethnic minority churches and prison ministry. Dr. Nester is ordained by the World Ministry Fellowship in Plano, Texas. He is pastor of the Fellowship of Believers, a non-denominational church in Langley, Oklahoma, which God called into existence in 1997. The church continues to experience the supernatural provision of God as well as His anointing which is available to all believers. Pastor Jack holds a bachelor's degree from Missouri Valley College, a Master of Theology degree from Southern Methodist University and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Oral Roberts University. The most important credential he has for ministry is the anointing from God that is available to all believers-including you, if you want it. Do you?

Download or read book Kingdom Calling written by Amy L. Sherman and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2011-11-02 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity Today Book Award winner Imagine the scenarios: a CEO successfully negotiates a corporate merger, avoiding hundreds of layoffs in the process an artist completes a mosaic for public display at a bank, showcasing neighborhood heroes a contractor creates a work-release program in cooperation with a local prison, growing the business and seeing countless former inmates turn their lives around a high-school principal graduates 20 percent more students than the previous year, and the school's average scores go up by a similar percentage Now imagine a parade in the streets for each event. That's the vision of Proverbs 11:10, in which the tsaddiqim—the people who see everything they have as gifts from God to be stewarded for his purposes—pursue their vocation with an eye to the greater good. Amy Sherman, director of the Center on Faith in Communities and scholar of vocational stewardship, uses the tsaddiqim as a springboard to explore how, through our faith-formed calling, we announce the kingdom of God to our everyday world. But cultural trends toward privatism and materialism threaten to dis-integrate our faith and our work. And the church, in ways large and small, has itself capitulated to those trends, while simultaneously elevating the "special calling" of professional ministry and neglecting the vocational formation of laypeople. In the process, we have, in ways large and small, subverted our kingdom mandate. God is on the move, and he calls each of us, from our various halls of power and privilege, to follow him. Here is your chance, keeping this kingdom calling in view, to steward your faith and work toward righteousness. In so doing, you will bless the world, and as you flourish, the world will celebrate.
Book Synopsis Liberating the Laity by : R. Paul Stevens
Download or read book Liberating the Laity written by R. Paul Stevens and published by Regent College Publishing. This book was released on 2002-03 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every church has far more work than any one person can do. Even a team of professionals is not enough. The New Testament solution was for every member to be a minister. Though the priesthood of all believers was a key idea in the Reformation, it is little practised today. Following secular models, churches usually organize around the clergy, who are paid by the laity to do the ministry. Paul Stevens argues that, according to Scripture, the primary task of a Christian leader is not to do the work but to equip the saints to do it. Exploring new options for pastors, tentmakers and laypeople, this book provides structures and strategies to best equip all the saints for ministry.
Book Synopsis How the Nations Rage by : Jonathan Leeman
Download or read book How the Nations Rage written by Jonathan Leeman and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can the church move forward in unity amid such political strife and cultural contention? As Christians, we’ve felt pushed to the outskirts of national public life, yet even within our congregations we are divided about how to respond. Some want to strengthen the evangelical voting bloc. Others focus on social justice causes, and still others would abandon the public square altogether. What do we do when brothers and sisters in Christ sit next to each other in the pews but feel divided and angry? Is there a way forward? In How the Nations Rage, political theology scholar and pastor Jonathan Leeman challenges Christians from across the spectrum to hit the restart button by shifting our focus from redeeming the nation to living as a nation already redeemed rejecting the false allure of building heaven on earth while living faithfully as citizens of a heavenly kingdom letting Jesus’ teaching shape our public engagement as we love our neighbors and seek justice When we identify with Christ more than a political party or social grouping, we can return to the church’s unchanging political task: to become the salt and light Jesus calls us to be and offer the hope of his kingdom to the nations.

Book Synopsis The Economics of Neighborly Love by : Tom Nelson
Download or read book The Economics of Neighborly Love written by Tom Nelson and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel Coalition Book Award What does the good news of Jesus mean for economics? Too often, Christian teaching and ministry have focused only on the gospel's spiritual significance and ignored its physical, real-world ramifications. But loving our neighbor well has direct economic implications, and in our diverse and stratified society we need to grapple with them now more than ever. In The Economics of Neighborly Love pastor Tom Nelson sets out to address this problem. Marrying biblical study, economic theory, and practical advice, he presents a vision for church ministry that works toward the flourishing of the local community, beginning with its poorest and most marginalized members. Nelson resists oversimplification and pushes us toward more complex and nuanced understandings of wealth and poverty. If we confess the gospel of Jesus, he insists, we must contend anew with its implications for the well-being of our local communities. Together we can grow in both compassion and capacity.

Book Synopsis God at Work by : Gene Edward Veith Jr.
Download or read book God at Work written by Gene Edward Veith Jr. and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2011-08-02 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you understand it properly, the doctrine of vocation—"doing everything for God's glory"—is not a platitude or an outdated notion. This principle that we vaguely apply to our lives and our work is actually the key to Christian ethics, to influencing our culture for Christ, and to infusing our ordinary, everyday lives with the presence of God. For when we realize that the "mundane" activities that consume most of our time are "God's hiding places," our perspective changes. Culture expert Gene Veith unpacks the biblical, Reformation teaching about the doctrine of vocation, emphasizing not what we should specifically do with our time or what careers we are called to, but what God does in and through our callings—even within the home. In each task He has given us—in our workplaces and families, our churches and society—God Himself is at work. Veith guides you to discover God's purpose and calling in those seemingly ordinary areas by providing you with a spiritual framework for thinking about such issues and for acting upon them with a changed perspective.
Book Synopsis Jesus Outside the Lines by : Scott Sauls
Download or read book Jesus Outside the Lines written by Scott Sauls and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether the issue of the day on Twitter, Facebook, or cable news is our sexuality, political divides, or the perceived conflict between faith and science, today’s media pushes each one of us into a frustrating clash between two opposing sides. Polarizing, us-against-them discussions divide us and distract us from thinking clearly and communicating lovingly with others. Scott Sauls, like many of us, is weary of the bickering and is seeking a way of truth and beauty through the conflicts. Jesus Outside the Lines presents Jesus as this way. Scott shows us how the words and actions of Jesus reveal a response that does not perpetuate the destructive fray. Jesus offers us a way forward—away from harshness, caricatures, and stereotypes. In Jesus Outside the Lines, you will experience a fresh perspective of Jesus, who will not (and should not) fit into the sides.
