Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a heartfelt story of childhood innocence and naivety, a story that began out of boredom one very wet and rainy afternoon in Tokyo, Japan. While on a concert tour of Japan with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 1982, cellist, artist, and author Peter David Snyder happened to walk by a local stationary store on a very wet morning and noticed a uniquely packaged set of drawing pens. Wanting something to draw with besides a pencil, he went inside the store and purchased them. Since the continual rainy weather showed no signs of letting up, the pen set would enable him to enjoy the free time in a relaxed and creative manner. As he began to sketch some arbitrary flowers he’d seen outside the hotel in the gardens, some ideas began to take shape on his sketchpad. Gradually as he continued drawing, he realized that their look and color could develop into something very special. The idea of a comic strip featuring two talking flowers came to mind. The thought of two flowers talking to one another about the mundane daily activities that usually occurred in an average garden was interesting and intriguing. Worms, snails, all crawling around them, or the ever-pervasive and creeping morning glory vines would provide constant banter for them in the beginning.

At an average age of only 47, they're not the white-haired, cookie-scented matrons of yesteryear -- and please, don't call them "Granny." The Hip Grandma's Handbook resents is the perfect accessory for today's new grandma. An eclectic collection of humor, reflections, and product recommendations, it offers worldly wisdom and common-sense advice on everything from glam alternatives to "Grammy" (think M'Mere) to tips on feigning interest in yet another round of ultrasounds ("It looks...just like you"). The book's funny, funky voice is a refreshing alternative to the traditional titles on the market, yet it offers wholesome, time-honored information for conscientious grandmothers looking to nourish and nurture grandchildren -- while maintaining their own identity and having fun in the process. Entertaining and inspiring, the book is a thoughtful gift for M'Meres of any age.

William Lassiter’s decision to make a life change by purchasing the Eagles Nest Sentinel has sparked buyer’s remorse because he’d be moving away from his family and leaving a job he’s enjoyed since graduating college with an investigative journalism degree ten years prior. Despite his turmoil, he ultimately decides to make the move, but an automobile accident puts that on hold, and while he’s recuperating, his father, Chester, and brother, JR, step in, going to Eagles Nest to assess the situation for William and protect his interests. Immediately, suspicions are raised about the finances of the newspaper, and the shady, racist connections of the management. The KKK wants control of the paper to spread their propaganda, so when Chester and JR begin cleaning house and bring in outsider Jim Botte to manage the Sentinel, threats against Botte’s life soon make it clear he will be needing a bodyguard—enter Martin Esposito. No expense is spared to protect Botte, securing him in a remote cabin accessed by one mountain road and setting up a manned guard station. Meanwhile, though doctors have advised William that while he will walk again, he will be confined to a wheelchair for some time. Rather than waste time in the wheelchair doing nothing, he decides to use his investigative skill to solve a murder believed to have been the work of a brutal mafia hitman.

Book excerpt: THIS IS THE FIRST biography ever written about Italian-born French actress, dancer, singer, and producer Marisa Pavan, who acquired fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1950s and in American television in the 1960s and 1970s. Pavan is the twin sister of actress Pier Angeli (1932–1971), who is best known today for her ill-fated relationship with actor James Dean. Pavan is also the widow of Jean-Pierre Aumont (1911–2001), a famous stage and screen actor and writer in France and in the United States. Based on extensive interviews with Pavan herself and with various people who have known her and worked with her over the years, this book is a tribute to Pavan’s life and career, with a focus on her Hollywood years and the studio system and star system through which she had to navigate. It is part of a bigger biographical project that includes a French-English website, www.marisapavan.com.
