Book Synopsis Relationship of Counselor Trainees' Gender Role Ideologies on Clinical Judgment with Male Clients by : Bryce Crapser
Download or read book Relationship of Counselor Trainees' Gender Role Ideologies on Clinical Judgment with Male Clients written by Bryce Crapser and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to assess how counselor trainees' gender role conflict, stage of the gender role journey, and emotional stereotype endorsement relates to clinical judgment toward male clients. Participants included counselor trainees enrolled in master's and doctoral level counselor education programs (n=117) recruited via CESNET list serve and email requests. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either a male or female client vignette, identical with the exception for the name and gender pronouns. All participants completed the Gender Role Conflict Scale, Gender Role Journey Measure, and Beliefs About Men's Emotions scale before reading the male or female vignette. Participants then completed the Client Symptoms Severity Scale, Counselor Rating Scale, and Theoretical Domain and Intervention Choice scales. Results indicated that counselor trainees rated male vignette conditions as more severe and less likeable. Gender Role Journey Measure phase of Acceptance of Traditional Gender Roles and client vignette emerged as predictors of gender reinforcing counseling interventions, more strongly with male clients. The results provided evidence of counselor trainee gender bias. The limitations of the study and implications are discussed including recommendations for counselor educational and training.

This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study assessed the relationship between self and other awareness as defined in the Integrated Development Model of Supervision (IDM) and gender role conflict in male counselors treating male clients. Participants included male counseling and clinical psychologists and trainees (N=93) recruited from academic programs and training sites. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two conditions where they read a case summary involving a fictional traditional or non-traditional male client. Afterward participants rated their reactions to the case summary utilizing the Client Rating Scale (CCS), the Gender Role Conflict Scale (GRCS), and the Supervisee Level Questionnaire- Revised (SLQ-R). Results indicated that counselors endorsed significantly greater comfort in working with the non-traditional male client. The restrictive emotionality subscale of the GRCS produced a small, significant effect size when regressed on client comfort scores. The inter-variable correlation matrix demonstrated several significant relationships in theoretically congruent directions with small to moderate effect sizes. Contrary to hypotheses, no moderation effects were observed among variables. Finally, the SLQ-R proved to be a stronger predictor of client comfort scores than mere estimated quantity of previous male clients.

Results revealed no significant relationships between GRC and Emotional Empathy for first year Male Counselors in Training enrolled in CACREP accredited Counseling programs. Exploratory analyses indicate that group differences exist between Caucasians and Non-Caucasians on total GRC and GRC factor Restricted Affectionate Behavior Between Men. Finally, group differences exist between religious affiliations and GRC factor Success, Power, and Competition.

Book Synopsis Gender and Sex in Counseling and Psychotherapy by : Lucia Albino Gilbert
Download or read book Gender and Sex in Counseling and Psychotherapy written by Lucia Albino Gilbert and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender is still largely ignored as an "active" variable in counseling and is typically viewed as pertaining to women's issues or problems. The field has leap-frogged over gender, perhaps because it is too complex, perhaps because we resist change, or perhaps because our gender socialization is sufficiently effective as is. This book makes clear as to why gender must be considered in understanding the client's concerns, the process of therapy, and the counselor's role in the therapeutic interaction. Effective therapy requires an understanding of gender theory and gender processes. The approach taken in this book explains complex concepts in understandable terms, provides summaries of pertinent research findings, and applies theory and research about gender to client case examples.

Book Synopsis Evidence-Based Approaches for the Treatment of Maltreated Children by : Susan Timmer
Download or read book Evidence-Based Approaches for the Treatment of Maltreated Children written by Susan Timmer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an overview of the research describing the effects of child maltreatment on mental health, cognitive and social-emotional development. It offers descriptions of selected empirically based treatments (EBTs) written by scholars associated with its development, training, or research on its effectiveness. Each contributor presents the theoretical foundation of the EBT and evidence of its efficacy, describes the treatment process and illustrates this process with a case study of its use with a maltreated child, and discusses possible limitations. Following the chapters describing the interventions, the editors address key issues of the dissemination and implementation of these EBTs. They describe the strategies the selected interventions have used to ensure treatment fidelity in training and dissemination from the perspective of implementation science’s core components of implementation. The challenges of implementing EBTs, and the difficulty of fitting protocol to the reality of clinical practice in community mental health settings are also discussed. This volume offers a central source of information for students and practitioners who are seeking effective interventions to address problems associated with child maltreatment.
