Download or read book Radiation Effects on Transport and Bubble Formation in Silicate Glasses written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using advanced magnetic resonance spectroscopies and small-cluster modeling, atomic structure of radiation-induced point defects in alkali borate, silicate, and borosilicate glasses is fully characterized. It is shown that in boron-containing glasses, most of these point defects are electrons/holes trapped by cation/anion vacancies, such as O1 - - O3 + valence-alternation pairs. In microscopically phase-separated borosilicate glasses, radiation-induced defects are found to cluster at the interface between the borate and silicate phases. Reaction and diffusion dynamics of defect-annealing interstitial hydrogen atoms in boron and silica oxide glasses are studied. The yield of radiolytic O2 is estimated. This oxygen is shown to be the final product of triplet exciton decay. Plausible mechanisms for the oxygen bubble formation are put forward. Two practical conclusions relevant for the EMSP mission are made: First, the yield of radiolytic oxygen is shown to be too low to interfere with the storage of vitrified radioactive waste in the first 10 Kyr. Second, microscopic phase separation is demonstrated to increase both the chemical and radiation stability of borosilicate glass.

Book Synopsis Theoretical Study of Laser-Induced Surface Excitations on a Grating by : K. T. Lee
Download or read book Theoretical Study of Laser-Induced Surface Excitations on a Grating written by K. T. Lee and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser-induced surface excitations on a grating are studied in terms of the solution to Maxwell's equations. A rigorous theory, derived originally for a lamellar grating, is used to study the resonance phenomenon for deep gratings. The generalization of the square-well grating to gratings of arbitrary shapes is examined numerically. A new diffraction anomaly is seen to occur when the grating depth is approximately equal to half of the wavelength of the incident laser radiation.
Book Synopsis Single-Frequency Fiber Lasers by : Zhongmin Yang
Download or read book Single-Frequency Fiber Lasers written by Zhongmin Yang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a contemporary overview of the technologies of single-frequency fiber lasers. The development of single-frequency fiber lasers is one of the most significant achievements in the field of laser photonics over the past two decades. Owing to the crucial demands of a laser sources with highly stable single-frequency operation, narrow linewidth, low noise, scalable to high output power, compact and robustness structure, fiber lasers have been intensively studied since its introduction to the single-frequency laser community and they still continuously proceed to trigger the emergence of new technologies and applications. This book systematically demonstrates the single-frequency fiber laser technologies from fundamental principles to state-of-the-art progress. Details of selected typical applications of single-frequency fiber lasers are also given and discussed. The reader will acquire a good knowledge of the current situation within this important field.
