Book excerpt: IN THE SOLUTION TREATED AND AGED CONDITION, Ti4Al-3Mo-1V has a higher ultimate strength than does Ti-2.5Al-16V, but the two alloys are about even in yield strength and elongation. In the solution-treated condition, Ti-4Al-3Mo-1V is unquestionably stronger than Ti-2.5Al-16V. These conclusions are independent of producer. There is not much difference in the same alloy produced by different companies. The alloys developed under the Titanium-Alloy Sheet-Rolling Program would not endure the most critical interpretation of release property specifications. On the other hand, these alloys come reasonably close to specifications. A complete set of release property specifications is available only for specimens that have been solution treated and aged. Such specimens do not all exhibit the desired ultimate and yield strength, but the percentage of rejects is small enough to be encouraging. (Author).

This book was released on 1943 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: An experimental study was made to determine the effect of artificial aging on the tensile properties of alclad 24S-T and 24S-T aluminum-alloy sheet material. The results of the tests show that certain combinations of aging time and temperature cause a marked increase in the yield strength and a small increase in the ultimate strength; these increases are accompanied by a very large decrease in elongation. A curve is presented that shows the maximum yield strengths that can be obtained by aging this material at various combinations of time and temperature. The higher values of yield stress are obtained in material aged at relatively longer times and lower temperatures.

Brisbane and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of theoretical stress concentration factors, and loading rates at 26, -78, and -196 C are presented for 301XH stainless steel, Rene 41, and Vasco Jet-1000 sheet materials. The unnotched specimens, tested at room temperature, were not appreciably affected by loading rate; however, some effects were observed for the specimens tested at sub-zero temperatures. The loading rate had some effect on the notched tensile specimens at all test temperatures. The temperature effect was more pronounced on the notched tensile specimen at the fastest loading rate. In most instances the tensile strength increased as the temperature decreased. The percent elongation for the three materials was highest at the -78 C test temperature. Type H-11 material became very brittle at -196 C and shattered upon fracture. The notch to unnotch strength ratio decreased as the stress concentration factor increased. THe 301XH stainless steel was the least notch sensitive. The amound to martensite transformed in the notched 301XH stainless steel specimens varied with the notch geometry and loading rate, with the exception of the notched specimen with a stress concentration factor of 12.8 at -196C.

Download or read book An Evaluation of Some Current Practices for Short-time Elevated-temperature Tensile Tests of Metals written by Charles R. Manning and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of different testing practices on the short-time elevated-temperature tensile properties was determined for 2024-T3 aluminum-alloy, HM21A-T8 and HK31A-H24 magnesium-alloy, and 12 MoV stainless-steel sheet. Tests were made under single strain-rate and single head-speed conditions. A dual strain-rate test was also included. An evaluation of the effects of these practices is given for the tensile and yield strengths, the elongation in 2 inches, and the uniform elongation. The need for a uniform testing practice is demonstrated. Recommended practices suggested by different organizations are included.
Book Synopsis Effect of Cold Reduction and Thermal Treatment on Tensile Properties of a Nickel - 2 Percent Beryllium Alloy at Cryogenic Temperatures by : Thomas W. Orange
Download or read book Effect of Cold Reduction and Thermal Treatment on Tensile Properties of a Nickel - 2 Percent Beryllium Alloy at Cryogenic Temperatures written by Thomas W. Orange and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This investigation was conducted to determine the tensile properties of a precipitation-hardenable nickel -2 percent beryllium alloy (Berylco 440) in 0.020-inch-thick sheet form at temperatures from ambient to -423 degrees F. The properties of this alloy over the range of commercially available conditions were determined, and the effects of extended aging times and temperatures as well as degrees of cold reduction greater than those commercially available were studied. Specimens parallel to the direction of rolling were tested at ambient temperature, -320 degrees F, and -423 degrees F. No transverse properties were determined. The alloy studied has high toughness and elongation at cryogenic temperatures in comparison with other high-strength materials. When cold-reduced 60 percent and aged, yield and notch strengths at -423 degrees F were 267 and 219 ksi, respectively, and average elongation was 19 percent. Overaging appeared to be of no benefit since it reduced the -423 degrees F ultimate and yield strengths without increasing the notch strength. Comparison of the limited data obtained in this investigation and elevated-temperature data from the alloy supplier indicate that this alloy would be usable at temperatures ranging from -423 degrees to about 800 degrees F.
