Book Synopsis Foreign Market Entry and Culture by : Thomas Wagner
Download or read book Foreign Market Entry and Culture written by Thomas Wagner and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,3, University of Aarhus, course: Culture and International Business, language: English, abstract: Going abroad is nowadays much more easy due to the continuous globalization process with lower transportation costs and immediate information exchange. Especially during the last decades firms have increasingly committed themselves to global markets in order to exploit cost advantages through lower labour costs or in order to follow the demand for their products (Barkema et al. 1996:164). A firm seeking to perform in a foreign market by establishing a business function (e.g. production management, distribution) has to choose the best mode of entry which is very relevant for the success of foreign operations and therefor an important issue. But foreign market entry does not come along without any costs especialy in cultural distant countries. The impact of differences in national culture, measured as cultural distance between the home country of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) and the country of operation is a very important issue and therefor worth to examine. The main questions the paper tries to answer is: In which ways does culture matter in the internationalization process of a firm? How does culture affect the choice of market entry and which problems arise due to cultural differneces? Which impediments regarding culture have firms to deal with when going to China?

This new space for comparison defined by globalization can result in very different purchasing behaviors, including those influenced by the 'country of origin'. This book investigates this effect, one of the most controversial fields of consumer literature, from a company perspective. In particular, it demonstrates the strategic relevance of the country of origin in creating and making use of the value in foreign markets. It also addresses the challenges connected with utilizing the value of the country of origin by considering different entry modes and international marketing channels. Further, it considers the role of international importers and international retailers’ assortment strategies in terms of value creation in foreign markets. Combining theory and practice, the book features diverse company perspectives and interviews with importers and retailers.

Hall and Geert Hofstede written by Matthias Boeing and published by Anchor Academic Publishing (aap_verlag). This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Companies that do not adapt to the new global realities will become victims of those that do.” In this quote Theodor Levitt, a former professor at the Harvard Business School, points out that companies all over the world need to deal with a process which has changed the way they carry on a business in many ways. The process, namely globalisation, takes advantages as well as disadvantages, not only for the business world but also for the individual. The importance to face globalisation has always been there but, it has increased with the evolving stages of globalisation. Ever since this process started, companies have tried to derive advantage from globalisation while at the same time they had to deal with the disadvantages. For marketers in particular, this process seems to offer a lot of potential for the exploration of new markets and customers. However, the questions determining the success or failure of a marketing campaign are more complex than in domestic marketing. Accordingly, the terms international and global marketing are strongly connected to globalisation, and have become a key factor for the success of companies. Corporations that want belong to these successful multi-national companies (MNC), or global players certainly have to deal with the different issues that come along with marketing products in other countries. These can have a significant impact on international operations but also on the overall performance of a company. Since a company’s approach to these issues determines the success or failure in marketing a product abroad, these situations have to be addressed at an early stage. Among others, cultural differences are one of the major obstacles that have to be considered in international marketing. Every culture has its own individual values, behaviours, ways of thinking, lifestyle and language which make it unique. Accordingly, companies have two different possibilities to deal with that process. At first, standardisation, an identical marketing plan is used across different cultures, and secondly, adaptation, appropriate adjustments are made to the special cultural environment of the target market. It is therefore important for a marketer to be aware of these differences, and to use the right tools to advertise products successfully in multiple, varied cultural environments. This study provides a comprehensive framework of cultural differences in the USA and Germany, and analyses how companies should conceive their [...]

Book Synopsis International Market Entry by U.S. Internet Firms by : Frank T. Rothaermel
Download or read book International Market Entry by U.S. Internet Firms written by Frank T. Rothaermel and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study international market entry in the context of the Internet, and ask: On what basis do U.S. Internet firms choose the markets that they enter? Our baseline hypothesis is that international market entry decisions are based on balancing perceived risks and returns inherent in a foreign target market. In addition, firms in the Internet sector face somewhat unique challenges when expanding abroad. Drawing on a sample of close to 7,000 country entry decisions undertaken by 179 U.S. Internet firms, we find that country risk, cultural distance, and uncertainty avoidance reduce the likelihood international market entry, while individualism and masculinity increase the probability of market entry. In general, the size of the international market moderates these relationships by weakening the negative effects, while strengthening the positive effects.

Book Synopsis The Effect of Guanxi on the Foreign Market Entry Process Into China by : Tao Yang
Download or read book The Effect of Guanxi on the Foreign Market Entry Process Into China written by Tao Yang and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business network theory believes that foreign market entry of a firm is the result of the interactions between the actors of the firm and the network. When entering into China, the Western firms have to face some new network conditions that derive from its socio-cultural environment. This study aims to test one of the cultural specialties, guanxi s effect on the foreign market entry process of the Western firms into China. Using data collected from Swedish firms established in China, the study finds that under the influence of guanxi, the market entry process of Western firms into China appear to show some different features compared with that into Western country markets. It takes more time to become established in China, more social activities and more non-business actors are involved in the process. These social activities within business circles are shown to contribute to the longer establishment time for Western firms operating in China. The findings suggest the existence of a social dimension to the business relationships and the need of a multi-level perspective of business relationships and networks.
