Book excerpt: A global multidimensional concept, well-being is an important measure that is closely associated with quality of life. This book examines well-being concepts and measurements, related health theories and correlates of well-being, as well as gender and geographical differences. The authors explore the evidence on well-being policies, programs, and health interventions, in addition to issues of health advocacy, self-care, and healthy aging. They also examine global wellness perspectives in the context of planetary challenges and decolonization. As the authors share their unique perspectives, they bring to the fore the integration of cross-cutting themes of gender, human rights, social and environmental justice/equity and inclusivity, health promotion/settings, and healthy public policy. This book explores the diversity of philosophical and methodological perspectives on wellness and well-being. It further contextualizes the lived experience of the dimensions of well-being as experienced by the contributors across different regions of the globe.

It has been a common practice for just about as long as operational machine translation systems have existed. Recently, however, there has been a surge of interest in post-editing among the wider user community, partly due to the increasing quality of machine translation output, but also to the availability of free, reliable software for both machine translation and post-editing. As a result, the practices and processes of the translation industry are changing in fundamental ways. This volume is a compilation of work by researchers, developers and practitioners of post-editing, presented at two recent events on post-editing: The first Workshop on Post-editing Technology and Practice, held in conjunction with the 10th Conference of the Association for Machine Translation in the Americas, held in San Diego, in 2012; and the International Workshop on Expertise in Translation and Post-editing Research and Application, held at the Copenhagen Business School, in 2012.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mindfulness is about being aware in a certain way, being consciously aware on purpose, living in the present moment without mental judgment. In addition to the in-depth application of mindfulness in different subdisciplines of psychology (e.g., social, personality, clinical, developmental, health, organizational) there is also a trend toward cross-fertilization with other social and behavioral disciplines (e.g., design, kinesiology, sociology, family studies, education, anthropology, neuroscience, philosophy, economics, medicine, organizational science). However, the application of mindfulness in the field of communication is limited. With the rapid development of the Internet and new media, the study of Internet communication is growing rapidly. The Internet and new media make it easy to connect with others, explore a new world, and regard cyberspace as an extension of one’s own thoughts and personality. Nevertheless, when people use the Internet and new media mindless, they will easily experience the social effects on their virtual selves and encounter psychological problems (e.g. network morality, network anxiety, network pornography, network addiction, and cyberbullying), which has become a widespread and serious problem. As an important part of positive psychology, mindfulness intervention has been proved to help improve a series of negative psychological states and promote positive emotions and subjective well-being. However, what theoretical and practical contributions can mindfulness in the Internet and new media bring remains unknown. Thus, this Research Topic focuses on the influence and intervention of mindfulness on the psychological problems caused by the network new media communication. We welcome high-quality studies using a variety of research methods, including quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, and reviews, on the second generation of mindfulness interventions and other meditation-based interventions (e.g., focused-attention meditation, transcendental meditation, and loving-kindness meditation). This Research Topic encourages submissions that cover but are not limited to the following topics: (1) The internet and new media-guided mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation practice (2) Mindfulness and interpersonal communication in the network (network trust, network security, network intimacy) (3) Mindfulness and network clustering behavior (4) Mindfulness and online consumer psychology (5) Mindfulness and cyber moral psychology (cyberbullying, cyber altruism, and prosocial behavior) (6) Mindfulness and online pornography (7) Mindfulness and internet addiction (8) Mindfulness and online psychological counseling (9) Mindfulness and new media anxiety

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parkinson's disease has long been perceived as a pure motor disorder, partly due to its initial description by James Parkinson, who suggested that "senses and intellect remain intact", and partly due to the fact that patients with PD did not survive long, before effective treatment became available. As the survival time of patients with Parkinson's disease has substantially increased due to modern treatment, it has become apparent that cognitive deficits and dementia are also frequent features, especially in elderly patients. With the progression of the disease and age, dementia develops in a substantial number of patients and constitutes a major therapeutic challenge. Dementia has thus increasingly been the focus of research and practice in recent years and a large body of knowledge has been accumulated. Despite these developments there has been no single volume dedicated to this topic. This book provides an extensive overview of the current status of knowledge pertaining to cognitive impairment and dementia associated with Parkinson's disease, intended as a reference book for general neurologists, neurology residents and also those with a special interest in movement disorders. In this edited volume experts in the field describe in detail all aspects of cognitive impairment and dementia in Parkinson's disease, including epidemiology, spectrum of clinical features, pathology, neurochemistry and genetics, findings in auxiliary investigations, relation to other neurodegenerative disorders, diagnostic process and management, and rounded up by discussion of future research directions and expectations. The text is complemented and enriched with tables, figures and heavily referenced to encompass all relevant literature.

Book excerpt: The importance of people in organizations has been growing in the organizational environment over the last decades. Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and sustainability have already reinforced the role of people as a differentiating element for the success and survival of organizations. These phenomena alone are already challenging for people. There is a consensus that the world of work as we knew before the pandemic will not return. Human resource management (HRM) practices must prepare organizations for the future of work. The Handbook of Research on Challenges for Human Resource Management in the COVID-19 Era analyzes state-of-the-art HRM in a digital transformation context and investigates the factors that promote more learning and development dynamics in organizational contexts. It also evaluates the impact of HRM policies on individuals, organizations, and societies. Covering topics such as corporate social responsibility, job satisfaction, and electronic performance monitoring, this major reference work is a crucial resource for leaders from public and private companies, human resource professionals, specialists, students and educators of higher education, researchers, and academicians.

Book excerpt: Brain diseases such as stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease cause dysfunction in multiple body systems. Motor dysfunction, cognitive impairment, dysphagia, and emotion disorders are frequently observed in patients with brain diseases. As the dysfunctions are associated with alterations in the brain, brain imaging methods such as functional MRI (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) are essential for investigating the neural mechanisms underlying the dysfunction caused by brain diseases. Brain imaging methods are also critical for understanding the neural mechanisms for the effectiveness of therapeutic or rehabilitative interventions that promote recovery from brain diseases. The usage of these brain imaging methods would deepen our understanding of brain diseases and potentially translate this knowledge to improve effectiveness of rehabilitative interventions for brain diseases.
