Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you’re a hiker taking a walk through your local wilderness, or a chef looking for new ingredients to incorporate in your dishes, Foraging for Survival is the book for you. As consumerism and a meat-heavy, processed diet become the norm and the world’s population continues to grow at an exponential rate, more and more people are looking toward a more sustainable path for food. Authors Douglas Boudreau and Mykel Hawke believe that the future of food lies in the wild foods of times spanning back to before the mass-agriculture system of today. People have become distanced from the very systems that provide their food, and younger generations are increasingly unable to identify even the trees in their backyards. In response, Boudreau and Hawke have provided a compendium of wild edible plants in North America. Foraging for Survival is a comprehensive breakdown of different plant species from bearded lichen to taro, and from all over the United States. There are also tips for growing local native plants in the backyard to facilitate learning and enhance table fare at home. Other information you’ll find inside: A list of different types of edible wild plants Foraging techniques Bugs and other grubs that can be consumed Warning signs of poisonous plants And much more! Start eating wild today with Foraging for Survival!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can I know God exists? Are there different gods? What does God mean to me in everyday life? Throughout his fifty-year ministry, James Cantelon has fielded questions like these about the nature of God and the relationship between God and believers and nonbelievers alike. They are deep and good questions, and to help people understand God he felt compelled to write a book that discusses theology in a step-by-step and accessible way. Here is theology as you have seldom seen it—warm, informal, even humorous—but always respectful and above all true to Holy Scripture. In Theology for Non-Theologians, Cantelon concentrates on God and his word; the nature, existence, and works of God; and God’s revelation of himself in the Bible. James Cantelon has accomplished the near-impossible, making theology engaging, understandable, and important in everyday matters.

Book excerpt: Crossing the Unknown Sea is about reuniting the imagination with our day to day lives. It shows how poetry and practicality, far from being mutually exclusive, reinforce each other to give every aspect of our lives meaning and direction. For anyone who wants to deepen their connection to their life’s work—or find out what their life’s work is—this book can help navigate the way. Whyte encourages readers to take risks at work that will enhance their personal growth, and shows how burnout can actually be beneficial and used to renew professional interest. He asserts that too many people blindly trudge through a mediocre work life because so many “busy” tasks prevent significant reflection and analysis of job satisfaction. People often turn to spiritual practice or religion to nurture their souls, but overlook how work can actually be our greatest opportunity for discovery and growth. Crossing the Unknown Sea combines poetry, gifted storytelling and Whyte’s personal experience to reveal work’s potential to fulfill us and bring us closer to ultimate freedom and happiness.

This book was released on 2020-08-13 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Dana Robinson examines the role that food played in the Christianization of daily life in the fourth century CE. Early Christians used the food culture of the Hellenized Mediterranean world to create and debate compelling models of Christian virtue, and to project Christian ideology onto common domestic practices. Combining theoretical approaches from cognitive linguistics and space/place theory, Robinson shows how metaphors for piety, such as health, fruit, and sacrifice, relied on food-related domains of common knowledge (medicine, agriculture, votive ritual), which in turn generated sophisticated and accessible models of lay discipline and moral formation. She also demonstrates that Christian places and landscapes of piety were socially constructed through meals and food production networks that extended far beyond the Eucharist. Food culture, thus, provided a network of metaphorical concepts and spatial practices that allowed the lay faithful to participate in important debates over Christian living and community formation.
