Download or read book Trust Me written by David Gleason and published by Publication Consultants. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by the inevitable Red state versus Blue state revolution in America, the heads of the new Russian controlled oil cartel, with China’s urging and blessing, approach the only American business man they truly trust. The Oil Producing Economic Alliance (OPEA), through Ryan Carlson, presents a too-good-to-be-true offer to the emerging Red State American republic. Continuing on from where his last book The Fraternity: Alaskan and Russian Roulette left off, C. David adroitly inserts the heroes into an unsettling story predicting our near future. Combining his knowledge of the American and Russian oil patch with the street savvy of his military intelligence cohort, Stan Williams, Ryan once again convinces Stan to join forces with his must trusted Russian friend, ex-KGB Colonel Alexander Romanoff. Their goal is to strike a deal with the OPEA to help stem the rapidly declining American influence in world politics and economics, restoring America’s status of the twentieth century, based on equal partnership with China and Russia. It is clear that Gleason has enough familiarity with the Russian political scene to bring authenticity to his novels. His knowledge of the works of our original founding fathers and the original intent of the United Nations charter re-establish this authentic connection in Trust Me: A Blueprint for Revolution. It is another highly entertaining read!

Download or read book The Stormer written by Gurmeet Mattu and published by Gurmeet Mattu. This book was released on 2013-03-18 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Davina was her name and she pleaded that I should not write this, that I should not expose her to the world. Apologies, sweet Davey, whose standard would I bear if your starlit eyes had not so pleaded. Those days are gone. These are the opening lines from The Stormer, another hilarious, romantic comedy novel by the author of The Sex Diaries. It sees struggling artist, Hugh, think he's made it when he's commissioned to paint a mural on the gable end wall of a tenement in his beloved home-town of Glasgow in Scotland. He paints a nude of his long-lost first love, Davina. But she's married to a senior cop now and he's not happy about this portrayal of his wife, naked. He sets a police unit the job of fixing Hugh. Bruised and battered, Hugh defies them all as he and Davina discover what they really mean to each other. Enter a whimsical world where romantic ideals meet sheer idiocy, featuring a biker called Midden, a tramp called The Shame, a gang leader called Slab and a stunning, gorgeous, redhead called The Stormer.
Download or read book Blinded by Hope written by Meg McGuire and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One day a teenage boy gets on his bike and rides forty miles up California’s Pacific Coast Highway to avoid causing an earthquake he fears will endanger his mother and sister. But the quake he is experiencing is not coming from beneath the earth; it’s the onset of bipolar illness. Blinded by Hope describes what it’s like to have an unusually bright, creative child—and then to have that child suddenly be hit with an illness that defies description and cure. Over the years, McGuire attributes her son’s lost jobs, broken relationships, legal troubles, and periodic hospitalizations to the manic phase of his illness, denying the severity of his growing drug use—but ultimately, she has to face her own addiction to rescuing him, and to forge a path for herself toward acceptance, resilience, and love. A wakeup call about the epidemic of mental illness, substance abuse, and mass incarceration in our society, Blinded by Hope shines a light on the shadow of family dynamics that shame, ignorance, and stigma rarely let the public see, and asks the question: How does a mother cope when love is not enough?

Download or read book Letters written by John Barth and published by Dalkey Archive Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basically, [Barth] takes several people from his early novels and has them all starting to write to each other, and to him, their letters and experiences directing the plot. And what starts out as what could be a too-cute literary trick winds up being extremely revealing, as the characters pour themselves into the letters, regardless of whom they're writing to, as the plot skips and slips through time. On one level it acts as a sequel to those early novels, continuing their stories and although it's not really required to read those books, I'm not going to pretend it doesn't help. The best thing to do would be to read those old novels in one block and then move onto this . . . I read them some years ago so I was a little fuzzy on the finer points. But I picked it up. But Barth captures the voices of his old characters well and even if you didn't know who was writing what letter, you could tell. And thus they tell the recepient, and us, about their hopes and fears, they mingle together, they lie, they come unglued, and by the end you sort of get a tapestry of their thoughts. There's a plot weaving through here but sometimes it becomes hard to connect it with six different people discussing different angles of it with you, but I just went with it and enjoyed the writing for what it was. --Michael Battaglia at Amazon.com.

Download or read book Blood and Guts written by Sam Vincent and published by Black Inc.. This book was released on 2014-09-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I pull on my balaclava and step onto the bridge wing. It’s loud outside: I can hear the rumbles of nine vessels’ engines and the hiss of ten water cannons … Suddenly the bridge is full of refugees from the upper deck. They are blocking my view out the back windows, but their faces – afraid, excited, awestruck – illustrate the looming presence of the Nisshin. I bend my knees and grip the bench, ready for the crunch.” In Blood and Guts, Sam Vincent plunges into the whale wars. Vincent sets sail with Sea Shepherd, led by the charismatic and abrasive Paul Watson. He attends the recent case at the International Court of Justice, which finds Japan’s ‘scientific’ whaling in the Southern Ocean to be unlawful. And he travels to Japan to investigate why its government doggedly continues to bankroll the unprofitable hunt. This is a fresh, funny and intelligent look at how Australia has become the most vocal anti-whaling nation on Earth. Vincent skewers hypocrisy and sheds light on motives, noble and otherwise. With Japan planning to relaunch its lethal program in 2015, the whale wars are set to continue. Blood and Guts is a riveting work of immersion journalism that lays bare the forces driving this conflict.
