Book Synopsis The early years single funding formula by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Children, Schools and Families Committee
Download or read book The early years single funding formula written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Children, Schools and Families Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-03-24 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Early Years Single Funding Formula is intended to replace the different methods currently used to fund early years settings in the maintained sector and in the private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sector. Each local authority will in future use the same criteria for every setting in its area when allocating funds for education and care provided under the free entitlement for three and four year olds. But the Formula has resulted in winners and losers, and the greatest losers will be maintained nursery schools, which provide a quality of education and care which is very high and sets the standard for others to follow. Overall the difficulties encountered so far with the Single Funding Formula have arisen because of the way in which it has been implemented, rather than because of the concept. Local authorities were encouraged to offer settings a supplement to the basic hourly rate of funding to recognise high quality provision, but many have not done so. A quality supplement should be made mandatory. The Government was correct in deciding to defer full implementation until April 2011 and the year's delay must be used to restore stability and to rework funding formulae where necessary. Sir Jim Rose's proposals to encourage entry to primary school in the September following a child's fourth birthday will have far-reaching consequences for early years funding, but blur the distinction between early years and primary education. The Government should examine whether a unified funding system should be introduced for all children aged from 2 to 11 years old.

Book Synopsis Gender Equity in the Early Years by : Naima Browne
Download or read book Gender Equity in the Early Years written by Naima Browne and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2004-03-16 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender Equity in the Early Years critically evaluates the extent to which current early years policies, provision and practice promote and foster gender equity. It explores the rationale for the drive to employ more men in the early years field and examines the link made between ‘underachievement’ in boys and the ‘feminine’ nature of early years provision. It also looks at the underpinning philosophy and impact of the Foundation stage in early years provision. Taking into consideration recent research, this book considers the validity of the ‘scientific’ conclusions being drawn about the biological basis for gender differences. Children’s perceptions of ‘masculinities’ and ‘femininities’ are also under scrutiny as the author analyses their imaginative role play and storytelling in early years settings. The author also looks at the principles behind the pre-school provision in Reggio Emilia and focuses on the extent to which this approach fosters gender equity. This groundbreaking book is essential reading for professionals working with young children, students on early childhood education and early childhood studies courses and heads and deputies in nurseries and primary and nursery schools.

Book Synopsis The Law-Making Process by : Michael Zander
Download or read book The Law-Making Process written by Michael Zander and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-25 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a critical, in-depth analysis of the law-making process, this book has no equal. It deals with all the stages and forms of law-making: - the preparation of legislation; - its passage through Parliament; - statutory interpretation; - the operation of the rules of precedent in judicial decision-making; - the many facets of judicial law-making; - the machinery of law reform. The new eighth edition covers the operation of EU law in the UK after Brexit. It also covers pre-Brexit events such as the unprecedented legislation by backbench MPs to stop a No Deal Exit from the EU and the two great Supreme Court decisions over the triggering of Brexit and the prorogation of Parliament. The books draws on a wide range of sources including important new empirical research such as Lord Sumption's 2019 Reith lectures (Trials of the State – Law and the Decline of Politics) and the work of Sir Geoffrey Palmer, former Prime Minister and Justice Minister of New Zealand on The Law Reform Enterprise. There are new sections on the attempt to control the size of the House of Lords, on whether Parliament should have a role in the selection of senior judges and on the topical question whether decisions of the courts on constitutional questions are 'legal' or 'political'.
