Download or read book Dynamic Response of Cylindrical Shells in Bilinear Media-Two Dimensional Case written by A. T. Matthews and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response of an infinitely long cylindrical shell buried in a bi-linear (hysteretic) material is obtained for a pressure pulse, p(theta, tau) applied to the inner boundary of the shell. The solution is obtained from a characteristic approach. This is a two-dimensional development of previous work which was axi-symmetric in nature. Comparisons of this solution with results from a finite-element computer code using the same two-dimensional configuration are given. The comparisons are good. Computations are also presented for cases with and without slip between the medium and the shell.

Matthews and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response of an infinitely long cylindrical shell buried in a bi-linear (hysteretic) material is obtained for a pressure pulse, applied to the inner boundary of the shell. The solution is obtained by means of a characteristic approach. Comparison of this solution with one obtained from a computer program for the same configuration using the finite element method is given. Also given are comparisons for a similar configuration, where the pressure is applied at an outer boundary in the medium, the solution of which was described in a previous report. Both sets of comparisons are in very good agreement. Finally, a criterion is given which permits one to judge the order of agreement which is to be expected in other situations, for the case of an incoming wave. (Author).

Book Synopsis An Investigation of the Nonlinear Dynamic Response of Cylindrical Shells Under Transient Pressure by : Charles Clinton Cromer
Download or read book An Investigation of the Nonlinear Dynamic Response of Cylindrical Shells Under Transient Pressure written by Charles Clinton Cromer and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical algorithm was developed for computing the nonlinear dynamic response of a ring-stiffened, nearly circular cylindrical shell of finite length under transient, axisymmetric radial loads of arbitrary axial distribution. Nonlinear Donnell-type equations were solved using Fourier series expansions of the dependent variables in the circumferential coordinate, modified finite difference approximations of the axial derivatives, and Newmark's beta-method, combined with Gauss elimination, for the time integration. The response of a simply supported shell under an exponentially decaying, uniform pressure was computed for peak pressures and total impulses between the static buckling limit and the dynamic buckling limit. The significance of damping, the initial imperfections, and the nonlinear coupling were also investigated. (Author).

Download or read book On the Plane Strain Dynamic Response of a Cylindrical Shell Under Lateral Loads written by Peter S. Pawlick and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical investigation of the response of a circular cylindrical shell in plane strain acted upon by arbitrary, nonaxisymmetric, time dependent normal surface tractions was carried out. Solutions were generated for three levels of shell theory: (a) membrane theory, (B) Flugge theory (combined bending and membrane effects), (c) improved theory (including the effects of shear deformation and rotatory inertia). The solutions are expressed in terms of the characteristic response predicted by each theory. Finite series approximations are used to determine the characteristic response to any desired degree of accuracy. A numerical study of the initial response of the shell to a radially directed, concentrated, pure impulse was performed and detailed comparisons between the three shell theories are presented.
