Book Synopsis Dream Catcher by : Margaret A. Salinger
Download or read book Dream Catcher written by Margaret A. Salinger and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her highly anticipated memoir, Margaret A. Salinger writes about life with her famously reclusive father, J.D. Salinger—offering a rare look into the man and the myth, what it is like to be his daughter, and the effect of such a charismatic figure on the girls and women closest to him. With generosity and insight, Ms. Salinger has written a book that is eloquent, spellbinding, and wise, yet at the same time retains the intimacy of a novel. Her story chronicles an almost cultlike environment of extreme isolation and early neglect interwoven with times of laughter, joy, and dazzling beauty. Compassionately exploring the complex dynamics of family relationships, her story is one that seeks to come to terms with the dark parts of her life that, quite literally, nearly killed her, and to pass on a life-affirming heritage to her own child. The story of being a Salinger is unique; the story of being a daughter is universal. This book appeals to anyone, J.D. Salinger fan or no, who has ever had to struggle to sort out who she really is from whom her parents dreamed she might be.

Download or read book Searching for Savanna written by Mona Gable and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gripping and illuminating investigation “that is far overdue” (Rachel Louise Snyder, author of No Visible Bruises) into the disappearance of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind when she was eight months pregnant, highlighting the shocking epidemic of violence against Native American women in America and the societal ramifications of government inaction. In the summer of 2017, twenty-two-year-old Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind vanished. A week after she disappeared, police arrested the white couple who lived upstairs from Savanna and emerged from their apartment carrying an infant girl. The baby was Savanna’s, but Savanna’s body would not be found for days. The horrifying crime sent shock waves far beyond Fargo, North Dakota, where it occurred, and helped expose the sexual and physical violence Native American women and girls have endured since the country’s colonization. With pathos and compassion, Searching for Savanna confronts this history of dehumanization toward Indigenous women and the government’s complicity in the crisis. Featuring in-depth interviews, personal accounts, and trial analysis, this timely book investigates these injustices and the decades-long struggle by Native American advocates for meaningful change.

Book Synopsis The History of Dream Catcher by : Dream Catcher Designs
Download or read book The History of Dream Catcher written by Dream Catcher Designs and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dream catcher is a craft object traditionally made by Native Americans. It is a hoop, often made of willow, that is woven with a web of string or cord, and decorated with feathers and beads. The dream catcher is said to filter out bad dreams, allowing only good dreams to pass through to the sleeper. The good dreams are said to slide down the feathers to the sleeper, while the bad dreams are trapped in the webbing and destroyed by the morning light. Dream catchers are typically hung above a person's bed and are believed to protect the sleeper from nightmares. They are often given as gifts to children or loved ones, to protect them while they sleep. The Ojibwe people, an indigenous people of North America, have a longstanding tradition of making and using dream catchers. The legend behind the dreamcatcher says that the spider woman, Asibikaashi, in the Ojibwe culture, would visit the people in their dreams and take away the bad dreams and give good dreams. The dreamcatcher is said to have originated with the Ojibwe people, but it has since been adopted by other Native American tribes and cultures. Dreamcatchers are made in different sizes, but most commonly are circular, with a diameter of around 6-8 inches. The hoop is usually made of willow, which is bent and woven together to form a circular shape. The webbing is then woven through the hoop, and the dreamcatcher is decorated with feathers and beads. The feathers are said to represent the breath of life and the beads are said to represent the tears of joy. The dreamcatcher is considered a sacred object that should be treated with respect. Dreamcatcher has become a popular decorative item and many people hang it in their homes to bring good luck, peace and harmony. It has also been used as a symbol of cultural appropriation. Many people have started to use it without understanding its significance and meaning in the Native American culture.
