But submitting to the authority of God¿s word on this issue reveals more than just the truth about this disciple. For, what this insight teaches us about relying on scripture is the key to a better bible study method.

They will be of particular interest to anyone wanting to comprehend Rudolf Steiner's mature understanding of his mission: "enchristing" the world. The first two lectures constitute a call to arms or return to basics. Steiner speaks existentially and phenomenologically, building upon recognizable descriptions of actual experiences. After crossing the threshold of death twice while hospitalized, he gained a new perspective on life and on death, as well. During his six years in the Air Corps, he met his dream-girl while at Pearl Harbor, and they were married. Elkan Kemp began his college education in 1946 at the University of Iowa. There he obtained both a BA and an MA degree, with majors in Sociology and Religion. It was during this time that his interests included in-depth studies of the Old Testament under Rabbi Judah Goldin. He studied religion under Dr. Marcus Bach and Theology under several Jesuit priests. He learned five dialects in Greek and received honors in Phi Eta Sigma, Eta Sigma Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. Reverend Kemps religious studies at the University of Iowa led him to three years of graduate work at the San Francisco Theological Seminary which included research in Greek and advanced Hebrew. He also went on to earn a divinity degree and a Seminary Fellowship for study at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His experience at the University of Edinburgh led him to more advanced work in Hebrew and extensive studies of the Muslim religion. With a Ph.D. thesis entitled, Life, Death and What Comes After, Elkan Kemps education now led him to his lifelong devotion to pastoral work. After teaching from the Bible for more than 60 years, Reverend Kemp became aware of just how many thinking people have been frustrated by the walls of religious myth, legend, creed and dogma that the churches and synagogues have erected. His decision to write this book came out of a desire to ease those frustrations by helping people to break down those walls. There was a practical side to his effort. He sat with many deeply religious laymen and ministers who came to that event we call death, with great anxiety. Reverend Kemp believes that it is evident that the Judaeo-Christian religion is not working, for those walls require a hand-me-down religion and this does not work. Reverend Kemp states, We truly believe only what we know about our God first hand. Book excerpt: My father and paternal grandfather were both ministers; when I was very young, I spent a lot of time listening to them and others discussing the Scriptures. Judas's name would come up, and I could not understand why Judas would betray Jesus for any amount of money and why so many people viewed him as a villain. Judas must have known he would have been put to death by many of Jesus's followers who loved him very much. As time went by and I was reading the Bible on my own, I discovered that Judas was Jesus's friend and was only doing what Jesus asked him to do. This book, A Lesson in Faith, was written to emphasize the utmost importance of having faith in what Jesus said. On numerous occasions, the priest, scribes, and elders consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety and kill him, so there was really no reason for betrayal (Matt. 26:3, 4). I think the reason for the betrayal in the beginning was to give all twelve of the apostles a chance to have enough faith in Jesus to give their lives as they said they would (Matt. 26:35). Only Judas had enough faith to give his life by hanging himself. Then the other eleven apostles forsook him and fled; they did not have faith in what Jesus said to them, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall loose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it" (Luke 9:23""24). The eleven apostles lost their life in the end, but with Jesus's help, Judas's life was saved. Therefore, Judas must be the disciple whom Jesus loved!
