Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Heartbreak of Acceptance Selene Knight fiercely loves and protects her children. Keeping them from too much pain and sadness. Watching her son Arch struggle in silence shatters her own heart. Only trying to get others to fight for him hurts her worse. Can she convince the ones who matter most to accept the truth and help them both? Also available in the collection Fantastic Side Trips: Side Characters Take Center Stage An excerpt from The Difficulties Ahead: Accepting What No One Wants to Admit Moabar met Selene's gaze, but didn't flinch or say a word. "They are not creating the problem, Moabar! It's not imaginary, and it's not any sort of coincidence. This isn't bad luck that swirls around Arch for no reason at all." Her voice broke and grew ragged, but she couldn't stop now that she was finally putting words to the horrible reality. "The bad luck is part of him. He creates it somehow. He can't help it, and he hates it as much as we do, but none of that changes the fact that he cannot escape it." He stared up at her, his blue eyes wide and increasingly miserable. Selene's heart broke for him nearly as much as it did for their son. "I know what you say is true," he said, his voice rough as well. "But I can't bear to think of it. He's a child, Selene. Just a boy. If I can't hold this dreadful thought in my head, how can we expect him to understand?"

Book excerpt: The reforms initiated in 1991 have transformed India's economy and capital market. The book offers a comprehensive evaluation of developments in both sectors from an investor's viewpoint. The potential growth of India's stockmarket is examined as the country progresses with its economic liberalisation. The insights offered into investing in India can be profitably applied by seasoned investors as well as by non-professionals. This exclusive analysis of the Indian market will be of interest to students and policy makers as much as to anyone interested in investing in one of the major markets to have emerged from its seclusion and opened itself up to global investors.

The book aims to remedy this shortcoming by providing readers interested in Turkey with a balanced and up-to-date overview of the economy.Topics discussed include trends in long-term political economy, post-2001 macroeconomic policies, tradable and non-tradable sectors and their impact on income distribution, capital flows and financial imbalances, success and problems of structural transformation at the micro level, characteristics of the labor markets with special emphasis on female employment, Turkey's long lasting but difficult relations with the European Union and possible scenarios for the near future. This unified approach permits to highlight and tackle effectively the challenges and risks Turkey faces in the final and critical stage of transition to a modern developed society.

Book Synopsis Democracy: The Challenges Ahead by : Aharon Klieman
Download or read book Democracy: The Challenges Ahead written by Aharon Klieman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bottom-line message of this book is democracy resurgent - but not triumphant. There are any number of conceivable anti-democratic threats and no prospect of ever achieving either a satisfactory or a permanent level of democracy in all countries and societies. Any lowering of the guard by democracy's defenders in academia or real-world politics risks the danger of democracy once again falling upon hard times or even regressing.
Book Synopsis Navigating the Fiscal Challenges Ahead by : International Monetary Fund. Fiscal Affairs Dept.
Download or read book Navigating the Fiscal Challenges Ahead written by International Monetary Fund. Fiscal Affairs Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2010-05-13 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With increasing fiscal challenges in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, multilateral surveillance of fiscal developments, a key part of the IMF's surveillance responsibilities, has gained further importance. In response, the Fiscal Monitor was launched in 2009 to survey and analyze the latest public finance developments, update fiscal implications of the crisis and medium-term fiscal projections, and assess policies to put public finances on a sustainable footing. Previous issues of the Monitor were published in the IMF's Staff Position Notes series, but starting with this issue, the Monitor will be a part of the IMF's World Economic and Financial Surveys series, to complement the overviews presented in the World Economic Outlook (WEO) and the Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR). The Fiscal Monitor is prepared twice a year by the IMF's Fiscal Affairs Department. The Monitor's projections are based on the same database used for the April 2010 WEO and GFSR. The fiscal projections for individual countries have been prepared by IMF desk economists, and, in line with the WEO guidelines, assume that announced policies will be implemented.

Book Synopsis Sanitation, Drinking-water and Health: Achievements and Challenges Ahead by : Who Regional Office for the Western Pacific
Download or read book Sanitation, Drinking-water and Health: Achievements and Challenges Ahead written by Who Regional Office for the Western Pacific and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report deals primarily with the analysis of the drinking-water and sanitation situation in the member countries of the Thematic Working Group on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (TWG WSH) based on statistics published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation (JMP) updated in 2015. This document also provides key information on selected health and development issues for TWG WSH member countries. The member countries covered in this report are: Brunei Darussalam Cambodia China Indonesia Japan the Lao People s Democratic Republic Malaysia Mongolia Myanmar the Philippines the Republic of Korea Singapore Thailand and Viet Nam. Previous documents prepared by WHO for the TWG WSH include extensive analyses of the drinking-water sanitation and hygiene sector as a whole based on country-level information. A key finding of this report is that the TWG WSH region has succeeded in meeting the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target for drinking-water and sanitation which is to halve by 2015 the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking-water and basic sanitation (UN 2017). Individually nine TWG WSH countries achieved the MDG sanitation target but four countries (i.e. Cambodia Indonesia Mongolia and the Philippines) did not. All TWG WSH countries met the MDG drinking-water target except Mongolia which fell short of the target by 13 percentage points. Overall 77% of people in the TWG WSH region are using improved sanitation facilities whereas 94% are using improved drinking-water sources (UNICEF and WHO 2015). Despite an impressive effort made to provide drinking-water and sanitation infrastructure to the residents in this region about one quarter of the population still lacks access to improved sanitation and 7% lacks access to improved drinking-water. Water-related diseases including diarrhoeal diseases are significant causes of death among children under 5 years old in the region. Almost 30 000 people in the TWG WSH region especially children under 5 die each year due to water sanitation and hygiene related diseases (WHO 2014).
