Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the diaries [Rilke] kept from 1898 to 1900, now translated for the first time . . . the overall impression is that of a genius just coming into his own powers."—Boston Phoenix In April 1898 Rainer Maria Rilke, not yet twenty-three, began a diary of his Florence visit. It was to record, in the form of an imaginary dialogue with his mentor and then-lover, Lou Andreas-Salome, his firsthand experiences of early Renaissance art. The project quickly expanded to include not only thoughts on life, history, and artistic genius, but also unguarded moments of revulsion, self-doubt, and manic expectation. The result is an intimate glimpse into the young Rilke, already experimenting brilliantly with language and metaphor. "For the lover of Rilke, this superb translation of the poet's early diaries will be a watershed. Through Edward Snow's and Michael Winkler's brilliantly supple and faithful translation . . . a new and more balanced picture of Rilke will emerge."—Ralph Freedman

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This humble book that you hold in your hand started out as a diary, written on scraps of paper, and in notebooks that were cobbled together and hidden from view by a lonely, displaced little girl. Katarina B. Viktor filled the pages of her secret book with her thoughts, ideas and musings. She would even wake in the middle of the night with inspired thoughts that she wrote down on any bit of paper she could find, including "sticky notes". When boredom struck on mundane activities like riding the bus, Katarina's imagination would soar and she kept adding to her writings. Recording her tumultuous feelings and observations of life's simple joys and beauties provided Viktor with an escape into the world of imagination. As Katarina gradually developed what became an unshakeable faith in God, the spiritual aspect of her poems deepened. Katarina's diary became to her more than an inanimate object. It was a friend she could confide in. Yet the biggest allies in Katarina's life became God, The Lord Jesus Christ, and the beautiful man she met and built a life with, at the point she was most broken. Reading this book is not only a journey into Viktor's own life. It is an astute observation of the lives of others, of studies on nature and a tribute to Katarina's strong faith. No matter what your beliefs, there is a deep humanity and appreciation of life to be found in these poems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a collection of my life’s experiences, events and occurrences that I have taken and put into poetic theory. These are private thoughts, feelings, and expressions of love, life and relationships as well as a few other things that I am passionate about. Nothing about this work of art is fictional or made up. I thought that maybe if I could share some of my experiences with the world, maybe someone can be helped, maybe I can ease someone else’s pain, pass on the healing in word. My sincerest wish is that my Poetry touches the heart, soul and mind, that it inspires love and healing for someone’s heart and soul. That it teaches us that life is so very short and that love is the most precious gift that one can bestow on another. When you find love and its real, keep it, nurture it, be honest with it, treasure it and above all else place God first in it. Never let anyone interfere in what is only for you……. People say that you cannot find your true love when you are a child, a teenager, because after all what could we possibly know about love at that age, but I am living, breathing proof that this is not true. I found my true love at 18 years of age, he knows who he is (Moe)….Thank you so much for showing me what real love feels like, what it should be. I am so sorry that I was not mature enough, was too naïve to handle it. You will always, always be the love of my life. And you will always be missed. These poems are reflections of experiences that I have had with individuals that have come into my life, whether for a moment, a season, or just to teach me a life lesson, you all have inspired me in some way, shape or form, but you shall remain nameless, if you ever get the chance to read this work, you would be able to tell who you are, and how you have helped me whether it was in a positive or negative fashion. You have all helped me to grow in some way, and I strongly believe that what does not kill you makes you stronger. Thank you all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1880, George MacDonald, the Scottish poet, novelist and preacher, in the wake of the deaths of two of his children, published A Book of Strife in the Form of the Diary of an Old Soul . This book, which unites grief and hope in hard-won faith, contains a poem for every day of the year. In the first edition of this classic collection there was a blank page opposite each page of poems. Readers were invited to write their own reflections on the "white page." MacDonald wrote: "Let your white page be ground, my print be seed, growing to golden ears, that faith and hope may feed." _._._._ Betty Aberlin, a native New Yorker of Russian-Jewish ancestry, raised in post-Holocaust orthodox atheism and nurtured in the arts, responded to MacDonald's invitation with daily poems of her own. Following the strict poetic form of The Diary of an Old Soul was an illuminating experience. In her own 7-line, 3-rhyme, 10-syllable pattern, Aberlin created a unique mixture of recurring themes and images drawing from Judaism, Christianity and her experiences as an actress and artist. Her vision is fresh and honest, revealing a keen observation of nature and human nature, from the exhilarations of faith, hope and love to the despairs of war, rejection and failure. Aberlin opens a path into spiritual reflection for the thoughtful reader to follow. _._._._ Here are a few of the accolades for The White Page Poems: _._._._ "In this labor of love, Betty Aberlin's close readings of George MacDonald's verses, and her thoughtful responses to them speak clearly of her poetic gifts and spiritual intelligence." Luci Shaw, poet and author. _._._._ "An awesome collection and collaboration." Daniel Berrigan, SJ, poet-in-residence, Fordham University. _._._._ "A fascinating new book . . . fresh and incisive." Don King, author of C.S. Lewis, Poet.

Plath's journals contain marvels of discovery." —The New York Times Book Review Sylvia Plath's journals were originally published in 1982 in a heavily abridged version authorized by Plath's husband, Ted Hughes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This humble book is a compilation of the poems that are present on the first two Volumes of The Diary of Thoughts. I tried to link my written content and message, to the several subjects that are referred on each Chapter and also added excerpts of each one of them, namely those I found the most significant. These poems express my inner CONVICTIONS & BELIEVES, my IDEAS & THOUGHTS, finally the mirror image of myself as a human being. I also expressed myself in a very simple and humble way, using words that are reachable to anyone of us, what I believe to be the best way to communicate with each other and share our THOUGHTS, IDEAS and inner VALUES. The SPIRITUAL content that you can find on this book doesn't match any type of religion that might be connected with these messages except to extend them to all of us in a neutral and collective way. It's up to each one of the readers to find their spiritual identification and religious orientation while respecting the neutrality which defined my own CONVICTION & BELIEF. We can find on these written words, analogies with several subjective concepts about different matters as EXISTENCE & CREATION along with POLITICS & RELIGION but essentially focused on my notions about RELATIONSHIPS between human beings where FEELINGS are predominating. This book is dedicated to my dearest friend, Rosalind Machard due to her true FRIENDSHIP and her presence in my LIFE in my worst and painful moments. The significance of her presence is expressed through several poems that make part of this document which is the reflection of my FEELINGS, admiration and appreciation for who she is and what she represents to my EXISTENCE. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first publication of Edna St. Vincent Millay’s private, intimate diaries, providing “a candid self-portrait of the ‘bad girl of American letters’” (Kirkus Reviews) “Endlessly intriguing and illuminating. The publication of Edna St. Vincent Millay's diaries is a major literary event, providing astonishing insight into the great poet’s art and life.”—Chloe Honum, author of The Tulip-Flame The English author Thomas Hardy proclaimed that America had two great attractions: the skyscraper, and the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay. In these diaries the great American poet illuminates not only her literary genius, but her life as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and public heroine; and finally as a solitary, tragic figure. This is the first publication of the diaries she kept from adolescence until middle age, between 1907 and 1949, focused on her most productive years. Who was the girl who wrote “Renascence,” that marvel of early twentieth-century poetry? What trauma or spiritual journey inspired the poem? And after such celebrity why did she vanish into near seclusion after 1940? These questions hover over the life and work, and trouble biographers and readers alike. Intimate, eloquent, these confessions and keen observations provide the key to understanding Millay’s journey from small-town obscurity to world fame, and the tragedy of her demise.
