The three approaches to public health programs implementation are pre-emergency, emergency and post-emergency approaches or phases and in order to improve the effectiveness of public health programs in Nigeria, five key areas were identified. These approaches and phases are sub-divided into various components. A lapse at the pre-emergency phase/approach could hamper effectiveness of emergency approaches during a significant health emergency. Some of the findings from the project reveals that huge amount of resources are being expended in public health projects of lesser severity in the country hence, approaches towards increased effectiveness in the development and implementation of public health policies and programs were presented. Brief profiles of reputable international public health organizations and research institute (in Nigeria) were also presented with the aim of highlighting their roles, mission and impacts in ensuring sustainable public health development in Nigeria.
