Book Synopsis A Classification System for Rehabilitation Outpatients by : Ann-Maree Conners
Download or read book A Classification System for Rehabilitation Outpatients written by Ann-Maree Conners and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study was conducted on two levels. (1). Identification and analysis of the patient related characteristics predictive of resource use. The measurement tools used included the SF-36 self-report questionnaire which measures eight domains of health related quality of life, ICD9 Diagnosis, ICIDH Impairment, ICIDH Disability, ICIDH Handicap, UDS Impairment and Modified Barthel Index score. (2) Measurement of the dependent variable, cost of health care episodes, by describing patient treatment encounters in terms of type, length of treatment and the therapist cost. Using the statistical analysis program PC-Group, the data was analysed to identify which of the independent variables best explain variance in the cost of episodes of care for rehabilitation outpatients. The study found that it is possible to design a classification system for rehabilitation outpatients which may be used as the basis of a Casemix funding system.

Book Synopsis European Approaches to Patient Classification Systems by : Reiner Leidl
Download or read book European Approaches to Patient Classification Systems written by Reiner Leidl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. Leidl, P. Potthoff, and D. Schwefel Health is a most vital resource represented in the degree of our well-being and our ability to conduct active and satisfactory lives. Acute and chronic illnesses diminish such well-being and abilities and may require resources for medical or nursing care. The improvement in health status, a major objective of health policy, requires the measurement of the severity of diseases and their consequences as essential elements of information. In application, the measurement approaches are gaining in relevance as they become more feasible and as more experience is gathered about their implementation and utilization. The feasibility of these new information tools is supported by developments in data processing technologies that permit broadly based empirical applications. Wider applications lead to improvements in the management use of this information. At the European level, better indicator systems of diseases and their various aspects are facing an increasing demand for patient-based health and health system comparisons and analyses. The measurement of health status and its implications can comprise a number of dimensions: various concepts of health and disease, types of diseases, methodological approaches of measurement, purposes of application and states of implementation.

Book Synopsis Evidence-Based Health Care Management by : Thomas T.H. Wan
Download or read book Evidence-Based Health Care Management written by Thomas T.H. Wan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evidence-Based Health Care Management introduces the principles and methods for drawing sound causal inferences in research on health services management. The emphasis is on the application of structural equation modeling techniques and other analytical methods to develop causal models in health care management. Topics include causality, theoretical model building, and model verification. Multivariate modeling approaches and their applications in health care management are illustrated. The primary goals of the book are to present advanced principles of health services management research and to familiarize students with the multivariate analytic methods and procedures now in use in scientific research on health care management. The hope is to help health care managers become better equipped to use causal modeling techniques for problem solving and decision making. Evidence-based knowledge is derived from scientific replication and verification of facts. Used consistently and appropriately, it enables a health care manager to improve organizational performance. Causal inference in health care management is a highly feasible approach to establishing evidence-based knowledge that can help navigate an organization to high performance. This book introduces the principles and methods for drawing causal inferences in research on health services management.
