The Determination of Gold by Atomic Absorption, and of Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, and Iridium by Spectrophotometry, in Solutions written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gold is extracted with dibutyl 'Carbitol' and determined by an atomic-absorption method. The platinum-group metals in the aqueous phase are freed from traces of organic reagent by oxidation with perchloric acid, then converted to the chlorocomplexes and taken into solution with hydrochloric acid. Platinum and palladium are separated from rhodium and iridium by their conversion to the iodide complexes and subsequent extraction with 15 per cent tri-n-butyl ortho-phosphate in hexane, rhodium and iridium being left in the aqueous phase (a). Platinum and palladium are recovered by back-extraction with concentrated nitric acid after which the palladium is complexed with p-nitrosodimethylaniline and the absorption measured. The complex is then extracted with chloroform, leaving the platinum in the aqueous phase (b), in which it is determined. Rhodium and iridium left in aqueous phase (a) are converted to the chlorocomplexes after any iodides have been removed. Iridium is extracted with 1:1 tri-n-butyl ortho-phosphate in hexane in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. Rhodium is determined in the aqueous phase, and iridium is recovered from the organic phase by back-extraction with 1:9 hydrobromic acid. When the four platinum-group metals have been separated, they are determined spectrophotometrically.

Book Synopsis CRC Handbook of Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy by : Asha Varma
Download or read book CRC Handbook of Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy written by Asha Varma and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS), which has gained worldwide acceptance as an analytical technique. FAAS offers 100-1000 times better determination and detection limits than other techniques for a majority of the elements. This technique requires a small sample size, and demands less sample-preparation time than others. The handbook is a collection of thousands of references for detection and determination of various elements in agricultural products, biological and clinical samples, and metallurgical and electronic materials. Each chapter is devoted to an element or a similar group of elements. Included are instrumental setup parameters, references, and author and subject indexes. Also presented are detailed appendixes covering glossary, list of manufacturers of spectrophotometers and its accessories, list of chemical suppliers, and list of reviews and abstracts. The handbook covers topics such as heavy metals, clinical products, and trace metal analysis. This desk-top reference is meant for chemists who handle day-to-day analysis problems in laboratories in government, clinical, industrial and academic settings. It is invaluable for those involved in research in environmental science, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry and forensic science.
