Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design techniques for a complex building block for digital systems are developed in this paper. Of particular interest are building blocks that are applicable to the nonstandard portions of digital systems--for example, the control circuitry of a computer. It is shown that a complex block for these applications must have considerable interconnection internal to the integrated circuit chip and multipurpose or multifunction capabilities. A multipurpose logic block (MLB) is proposed as the complex building block based on these constraints. The block has r signal or data inputs and s control inputs and can realize any one of a set of Boolean functions, depending on how the control inputs are connected. The control inputs can be connected to ground, to the supply voltage, or to signal inputs. An algorithm is presented with which an MLB can be designed to realize a specific number of functions. In one example, an MLB is developed for obtaining certain functions of three variables; the functions are sum, majority, equivalence, NOR, and AND. A working demonstration model is designed and constructed from the example. (Author).
Book Synopsis VHDL and FPLDs in Digital Systems Design, Prototyping and Customization by : Zoran Salcic
Download or read book VHDL and FPLDs in Digital Systems Design, Prototyping and Customization written by Zoran Salcic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents an attempt to treat three aspects of digital systems, design, prototyping and customization, in an integrated manner using two major technologies: VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) as a modeling and specification tool, and Field-Programmable Logic Devices (FPLDs) as an implementation technology. They together make a very powerful combination for complex digital systems rapid design and prototyping as the important steps towards manufacturing, or, in the case of feasible quantities, they also provide fast system manufacturing. Combining these two technologies makes possible implementation of very complex digital systems at the desk. VHDL has become a standard tool to capture features of digital systems in a form of behavioral, dataflow or structural models providing a high degree of flexibility. When augmented by a good simulator, VHDL enables extensive verification of features of the system under design, reducing uncertainties at the latter phases of design process. As such, it becomes an unavoidable modeling tool to model digital systems at various levels of abstraction.

Book Synopsis EBOOK: Fundamentals of Digital Logic by : Stephen Brown
Download or read book EBOOK: Fundamentals of Digital Logic written by Stephen Brown and published by McGraw Hill. This book was released on 2008-07-16 with total page 958 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL Design teaches the basic design techniques for logic circuits. The text ptovides a clear and easily understandable discussion of logic circuit design without the use of unnecessary formalism. It emphasizes the synthesis of circuits and explains how circuits are implemented in real chips. Fundamental concepts are illustrated by using small examples, which are easy to understand. Then, a modular approach is used to show how larger circuits are designed. VHDL is a complex language so it is introduced gradually in the book. Each VHDL feature is presented as it becomes pertinent for the circuits being discussed. While it includes a discussion of VHDL, the book provides thorough coverage of the fundamental concepts of logic circuit design, independent of the use of VHDL and CAD tools. A CD-ROM containg all of the VHDL design examples used in the book, as well Altera's Quartus II CAD software, is included free with every text.

Book Synopsis Turing’s Connectionism by : Christof Teuscher
Download or read book Turing’s Connectionism written by Christof Teuscher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christof Teuscher revives, analyzes, and simulates Turing's ideas, applying them to different types of problems, and building and training Turing's machines using evolutionary algorithms. In a little known paper entitled 'Intelligent Machinery' Turing investigated connectionist networks, but his work was dismissed as a 'schoolboy essay'and it was left unpublished until 1968, 14 years after his death. This is not a book about today's (classical) neural networks, but about the neuron network-like structures proposed by Turing. One of its novel features is that it actually goes beyond Turing's ideas by proposing new machines. The book also contains a Foreward by B. Jack Copeland and D. Proudfoot.
