Download or read book Design, Construction, and Testing of an Open-loop Low-speed Wind Tunnel written by Muhammad Adnin Mat Bahari and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An open-loop low-speed wind tunnel is one of the easiest ways to study about aerodynamics for undergraduate studies. The objectives of this project are to propose a design with detail analysis, fabrication of a small scale open-loop low-speed wind tunnel and to validate the designed wind tunnel through performance testing with the existing instrumentations available in the laboratory. The wind tunnel was designed by considering the essential parts of the wind tunnel with the proper justifications before modelled with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and then tested using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). After obtaining the desired simulation result, the designed wind tunnel was fabricated and then followed by the test models. Then the wind tunnel undergoes the performance testing for validation and calibration. For the Ahmed Body flow pattern testing, the flow behaves just like the flow pattern tested in calibrated wind tunnel. For the case study testing, a cylinder model was used and the highest flow speed is 0.4317 m/s while the slowest flow speed is 0.1401 m/s. However for the case study experiment, the result obtained is not at its best condition as there is wake flow generated around the cylinder body and further improvement is required to obtain the undoubtedly results.

This book was released on 2018-10-27 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This grant supported research into quiet-flow supersonic wind-tunnels, between May 1990 and December 1994. Quiet-flow nozzles operate with laminar nozzle-wall boundary layers, in order to provide low-disturbance flow for studies of laminar-turbulent transition under conditions comparable to flight. Major accomplishments include: (1) the design, fabrication, and performance-evaluation of a new kind of quiet tunnel, a quiet-flow Ludweig tube; (2) the integration of preexisting codes for nozzle design, 2D boundary-layer computation, and transition-estimation into a single user-friendly package for quiet-nozzle design; and (3) the design and preliminary evaluation of supersonic nozzles with square cross-section, as an alternative to conventional quiet-flow nozzles. After a brief summary of (1), a description of (2) is presented. Published work describing (3) is then summarized. The report concludes with a description of recent results for the Tollmien-Schlichting and Gortler instability in one of the square nozzles previously analyzed. Schneider, Steven P. Book Synopsis Design of Wind Tunnel (fluid Flow Analysis) by : Nelton Chwee Yang Koo
Download or read book Design of Wind Tunnel (fluid Flow Analysis) written by Nelton Chwee Yang Koo and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A low speed wind tunnel was design and fabricate. The project covered the process of design and fabrication of the small wind tunnel. In completing this project, a computer aided drawing (CAD) called Solid Work is use to design the wind tunnel. Experiment conducted after build the wind tunnel to find drag coefficient of a sphere. The drag force on a sphere in an air stream was measured at various free stream velocities below 100 m/s. This was done in a low speed wind tunnel using an integral balance system to measure the drag force and a Pitot tube and to measure the velocity. The raw data were processed according to classical equations of fluid mechanics which define the drag coefficient. An impression of fluid field flow around a sphere is also capture using white smoke. Method of analysis the flow in test section was shown by using strings. The experimental results are compared to published results over the range tested.
