Download or read book Unsteady Navier-Stokes Solutions for a Low Aspect Ratio Delta Wing written by Raymond E. Gordnier and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical investigation of the flow field about a 76-degree leading edge sweep delta wing at 20.5 degree angle of attack is presented. The computational results are obtained using a Beam-Warming algorithm with a Newton-like subiteration procedure. For M = 0.2 and Re = 900,000 an unsteady flow field is obtained which is shown to be physical in nature. The unsteady behaviour is a result of the existence of small-scale vortical structures that are associated with a Kelvin-Helmholtz type instability of the shear layer emanating form the leading edge of the delta wing. The computed results show qualitative agreement with other experimental and numerical findings.
Book Synopsis Low-speed Static Stability Characteristics of a Cambered-delta-wing Model by : John M. Riebe
Download or read book Low-speed Static Stability Characteristics of a Cambered-delta-wing Model written by John M. Riebe and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made in the Langley 300 MPH 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the static stability characteristics of a cambered-delta-wing model. The cambered delta wing was derived from a segment of a cone selected so that the projected plan form with a wing dihedral angle of zero degrees was the same as a 60 degree delta wing. The projected plan form had an aspect ratio of 2.31.

Book Synopsis Computation of a Delta-wing Roll-and-hold Maneuver by : Raymond E. Gordnier
Download or read book Computation of a Delta-wing Roll-and-hold Maneuver written by Raymond E. Gordnier and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents computations of the flowfield around an 80 degree sweep delta wing undergoing a constant roll-rate maneuver from 0 to 45 degrees. The governing equations for the problem are the unsteady, three- dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The equations are solved using the implicit, approximately-factored algorithm of Beam-Warming. Fixed roll angle results are also presented and compared with experimental measurements to demonstrate the ability of the numerical technique to accurately capture the flowfield around a rolled delta wing. The dynamic behaviors of the vortex position and strength, as well as their corresponding effect on surface pressure, lift and roll moment, are described. A simple, quasi-static explanation of these vortex behaviors based on effective angle-of-attack and sideslip angle is proposed ... Delta wing roll, Vortex dynamics, Vortical flow, Unsteady maneuver.
Book Synopsis Experimental Determination of Damping in Pitch of Swept and Delta Wings at Supersonic Mach Numbers by : John A. Moore
Download or read book Experimental Determination of Damping in Pitch of Swept and Delta Wings at Supersonic Mach Numbers written by John A. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The damping-in-pitch derivative was determined experimentally at Mach numbers of 2.96 and 3.92 for two delta wings having aspect ratios of 2 and 3 and for one sweptback tapered wing having an aspect ratio of 3 by using a free-oscillation technique. The tests were made at Reynolds numbers based on mean aerodynamic chord from 4,000,000 to 12,000,000 for an angle-of-attack range of zero to 10 degrees. The reduced-frequency parameter ranged from 0.006 to 0.022.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deflections and all internal forces have been calculated for concentrated static loads. Vibration modes are also presented. The effects of neglecting shearing strains in the ribs and spars and also of assuming the ribs to be rigid have been investigated by modifying the electric circuits to correspond to these simplifications.

Book Synopsis On the Hypersonic Flow Past Blunted, Flat Delta Wings by : Arnold Polak
Download or read book On the Hypersonic Flow Past Blunted, Flat Delta Wings written by Arnold Polak and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flow of a perfect gas over the slab portion of a blunted delta wing flying at hypersonic speeds is studied. A set of approximate equations is derived and a solution - for an inviscid flow - is obtained. Using this solution as a representation for the inviscid flow problem, a formulation to the laminar boundary-layer equations is presented; one which is applicable to the flow field's azimuthal planes where the crossflow gradients are not too large. Numerical solutions to these boundary-layer equations have been obtained; however, these are restricted to the azimuthal planes and near to the leading edges. The results indicate the presence of a dividing surface streamline since a numerical solution could not be obtained near the centerplane of the wing, where the crossflow velocity is large. (Author).

Book excerpt: This book gathers contributions to the 21st biannual symposium of the German Aerospace Aerodynamics Association (STAB) and the German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DGLR). The individual chapters reflect ongoing research conducted by the STAB members in the field of numerical and experimental fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, mainly for (but not limited to) aerospace applications, and cover both nationally and EC-funded projects. Special emphasis is given to collaborative research projects conducted by German scientists and engineers from universities, research-establishments and industries. By addressing a number of cutting-edge applications, together with the relevant physical and mathematics fundamentals, the book provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the current research work in the field. The book’s primary emphasis is on aerodynamic research in aeronautics and astronautics, and in ground transportation and energy as well.
