Fox and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literature indicates that strategic planning is an effective method for serving as a basis for technology planning. Strategic planning calls for the description of resources needed to support the goals and objectives of the plan. From these descriptions, technology planners may develop a technology plan. This study sought to determine, in Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) institutions, the extent to which strategic planning served as a guide for technology planning. In a quantitative survey administered online to 150 invited participants, 92 or 61% responded. Results indicated that TBR schools valued the strategic plan as a method of communicating technology needs. Demographic data collected indicated that there were little to no differences among respondents from two or four year schools or between or among respondents holding different job titles with regard to the value of the strategic plan as a technology planning guide. The study invited open-ended comments for each closed-ended question asked. The questions and comments led to the following conclusions. 1. The budget drives the planning process. Plans are made and priorities set. At budget time, money for technology may be cut, but very little change in goals takes place. 2. The planning process or results of the planning process do not permeate to every level in institutions. 3. Chief information officers know more about strategic planning than chief academic officers or deans/directors/coordinators know about the technology planning process.

Book excerpt: This Strategic Educational Technology Plan for the State of Tennessee responds directly to the U. S. Department of Education's (USDoE) rule that state applications for Title II Part D funding under the No Child Left Behind Act must have statewide long-range strategic technology plans for K-12 education. Guidance from the USDoE Office of Technology requires the technology plan to address fifteen specific elements. These elements structure the outline for Tennessee's current plan. To prepare the plan, the Tennessee Department of Education comprehensively reviewed the status of educational technology in Tennessee. The Tennessee State Board of Education's goals for technology generally align with those in Title II Part D, Enhancing Education through Technology (EdTech). Universal access to the Internet is a reality in Tennessee schools. A new annual statewide school technology survey collects key information useful for baseline information and strategic planning. The purpose of this document, is to analyze the current situation, delineate the vision as it has evolved through recent endeavors, and outline how Tennessee can, within the current resources available, accomplish the noble goal of enhancing education through technology. (Contains 9 appendices.).

Book excerpt: Public libraries can increase their impact on knowledge development, innovation, and social change by promoting parent and family engagement in children's learning. Libraries are increasingly focusing on families. Educational research confirms that family engagement in children's learning and development predicts school readiness, positive social behaviors, high school graduation, interest in STEM careers, and post-secondary education. A Librarian's Guide to Engaging Families in Learning will inspire libraries and librarians to innovate and promote family learning from a child's earliest years through adolescence. By bringing together research and practice, it will deepen librarians' understanding of families' role in education and help them to learn new ways to build positive and trusting family partnerships that honor diverse cultures and languages, as well as to develop leadership for community impact. Written by thought leaders in the fields of family engagement and library science, each of the three main sections of the book begins with a framework followed by case studies illustrating key concepts of the framework. Cases are followed by reflections from practicing librarians. All chapters focus on practical family engagement in the social infrastructure, lifelong learning, and diversity and social justice.
