Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1944, while World War II still raged, a husband and wife left the comforts of America to move to Africa. Headhunters and cannibals roamed the jungles of "the dark continent," as the land was still called then, and witchcraft and juju held people in the grip of fear and superstition. But dawn was about to break. In the midst of chaos, a story of love, dedication, commitment, hope, and encouragement began to unfold. This is the true life story of two people who dared to trust the God who called them. As you enter these pages, be prepared-you will find joy and tears, tension and suspense, raw terror, and good followed by evil of the darkest kind. You will walk with this couple as they were forced to make searing decisions in the presence of starving children. You'll be by their side through the dark night when evil was prepared to kill. But most important, you will see the hand of a loving Heavenly Father guiding them every step of the way.

Book excerpt: From the luminous, winged sculpture perched in the hills above Santiago to the floating marble lotus blooming in the outskirts of New Delhi, the Baháʼí Houses of Worship are truly a wonder to behold. Featuring images and descriptions of Baháʼí Houses of Worship around the world, this book will allow you to color your way through the histories and legacies of these unique and sacred structures. Dawning Places includes illustrations of the Baháʼí Houses of Worship in Turkmenistan, North America, Uganda, Australia, Germany, Panama, Samoa, India, Chile, Cambodia, and Colombia, flora native to each of these regions, and ornamental nine-pointed stars. Features a total of 27 single-sided coloring pages. This coloring book is a Bursting Into Bloom original. Bursting Into Bloom is a collection of children's books written and illustrated by Ahva Afnani Aflatooni. Baháʼí Houses of Worship are places where all people, no matter their race, religion, gender, or background, can pray, meditate, and reflect. In fact, each House of Worship has nine sides and nine entrances, symbolizing that all people are welcome. Baháʼí Houses of Worship are also called Temples, or Mashriqu'l-Adhkár, which is Arabic for "The Dawning Place of the Mention of God." They serve two essential purposes: worship and service. In addition to enhancing the devotional spirit and capacity for service in their surrounding communities, the Bahá'í Houses of Worship will someday develop related structures that will support and enrich community life, such as hospitals, schools, and libraries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the course of this century, gauge invariance has slowly emerged from being an incidental symmetry of electromagnetism to being a fundamental geometrical principle underlying the four known fundamental physical interactions. The development has been in two stages. In the first stage (1916-1956) the geometrical significance of gauge-invariance gradually came to be appreciated and the original abelian gauge-invariance of electromagnetism was generalized to non-abelian gauge invariance. In the second stage (1960-1975) it was found that, contrary to first appearances, the non-abelian gauge-theories provided exactly the framework that was needed to describe the nuclear interactions (both weak and strong) and thus provided a universal framework for describing all known fundamental interactions. In this work, Lochlainn O'Raifeartaigh describes the former phase. O'Raifeartaigh first illustrates how gravitational theory and quantum mechanics played crucial roles in the reassessment of gauge theory as a geometric principle and as a framework for describing both electromagnetism and gravitation. He then describes how the abelian electromagnetic gauge-theory was generalized to its present non-abelian form. The development is illustrated by including a selection of relevant articles, many of them appearing here for the first time in English, notably by Weyl, Schrodinger, Klein, and London in the pre-war years, and by Pauli, Shaw, Yang-Mills, and Utiyama after the war. The articles illustrate that the reassessment of gauge-theory, due in a large measure to Weyl, constituted a major philosophical as well as technical advance.

Two years later, Morgan begins to make plans to return to his home in Santa Barbara to pick up the pieces of his life and career. Quinn Riley has been avoiding her past for four years. Standing up for the truth has forced her into a life of fear and isolation. After a "chance" first meeting and a Thanksgiving snowstorm, Quinn is drawn into the Spencer family's warm and loving world, and she begins to believe she might find freedom in their friendship. The man Quinn helped put behind bars has recently been released, however, and she fears her past will endanger the entire Spencer family. As the danger heightens, she determines to leave town for the sake of the people who have come to mean so much to her. Fixing problems is what Morgan Spencer does best, and he is not willing to let Quinn run away, possibly into the clutches of a man bent on revenge. But Morgan's solution sends him and Quinn on an unexpected path, with repercussions neither could have anticipated.

Book excerpt: What if the presence of God became so real in people's hearts that it revived the church and ushered in the next Jesus Movement? From the Upper Room in Jerusalem to the Moravian community in Germany, God's personal presence always changes everything. Awaken the Dawn chronicles the story of a movement of day-and-night worship, prayer, creativity, and mission that is impacting America and the nations by bringing the presence of God into our cities and campuses. This story is part of the same movement David pioneered when he served as the greatest king in Israel's history and that the Book of Acts chronicles as God's presence filled communities. It's time for a generation to find their voice in the symphony of creative worship, prayer, and gospel proclamation that God is orchestrating. Jesus' way of changing the world is surprising and exhilarating and is certainly the opposite of the systems of the world. This book will help you find your part in Jesus' plan by discussing: What God's presence is and how it changes our hearts Incredible stories of God's activity in the nation and what He is saying through them God's values and how He brings transformation and mercy Why Jesus is central to all that the Holy Spirit is doing This book will equip you to be a part of Jesus' astounding storyline for a great spiritual awakening. It will give you hope and keys on how God is unfolding his mission of mercy and transformation and how you can be a part of it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geography in America at the Dawn of the 21st Century surveys American geographers' current research in their specialty areas and tracks trends and innovations in the many subfields of geography. As such, it is both a 'state of the discipline' assessment and a topical reference. It includes an introduction by the editors and 47 chapters, each on a specific specialty. The authors of each chapter were chosen by their specialty group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG). Based on a process of review and revision, the chapters in this volume have become truly representative of the recent scholarship of American geographers. While it focuses on work since 1990, it additionally includes related prior work and work by non-American geographers. The initial Geography in America was published in 1989 and has become a benchmark reference of American geographical research during the 1980s. This latest volume is completely new and features a preface written by the eminent geographer, Gilbert White.

Book excerpt: A university professor stops at a bar to leave some papers with a friend. Moments later, she leaves the bar with a companion to return to her vehicle. People abruptly approach and fire several handgun rounds into her body. The companion is wounded but gets to her. She dies as he holds her. Questions abound. Why does anyone want a professor of modern languages dead? Why was the original target enlarged to include another professor, a woman who works for the CIA, and a bar owner? There are so many questions, but so few answers. So small a group, with just three persons—Jed, Rusty, and Frank, but as the group grows, it will be called to deal with politicians and thieves, international criminals, and leaders of nations who betray their people. And the monster they seek to attack will be hidden, protected by the mighty, and born of evil. It isn’t a fair fight, but then, whatever is?
