The author's somatic symptoms of panic attacks and autoimmune disorders and her struggle with addiction and eating disorders are viewed as representing the repression of the Feminine essence resulting from childhood sexual victimization. The thesis addresses the questions: How do symptoms of repressed childhood sexual abuse in women manifest when creativity and femininity are denied? How can the retraumatization create the opportunity to heal and dance with the sacred Feminine? This thesis uses heuristic methodology to guide the research, which explores the deeper meaning behind somatic symptoms and soulful longing and the process of healing through dance.
