Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All men in the general, desire to be happy-but all men do not desire in this or that particular, or in this or that way-to be happy. Here there is an infinite difference-so many men-so many minds and opinions. A desire for happiness is planted in all men by the constitution of nature. This is so intrinsic and so innate in nature, that it is so engraved in it, that even the fall of Adam, as great as it was, has not blotted it out. This desire for happiness is left in man for a stock to graft holiness on. God grafts the plant of grace upon the stock of nature. Indeed happiness, like Rachel, Gen. 29:17, is so fair and so beautiful a thing, that everyone is apt to fall in love with it, and earnestly to desire it, yes, many there are, who would serve twice seven years to enjoy it. But by the standing law of that heavenly country above, the younger sister must never be bestowed before the elder; you can never enjoy fair Rachel-heaven and happiness-except you are first married to tender-eyed Leah-real holiness, Gen. 29:17-28. He who will have heaven, must have union and communion with Christ; and he who will have union and communion with Christ must be holy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Do the Five Points of Calvinism Really Mean? Many have heard of Reformed theology, but may not be certain what it is. Some references to it have been positive, some negative. It appears to be important, and they'd like to know more about it. But they want a full, understandable explanation, not a simplistic one. What Is Reformed Theology? is an accessible introduction to beliefs that have been immensely influential in the evangelical church. In this insightful book, R. C. Sproul walks readers through the foundations of the Reformed doctrine and explains how the Reformed belief is centered on God, based on God's Word, and committed to faith in Jesus Christ. Sproul explains the five points of Reformed theology and makes plain the reality of God's amazing grace.

Book excerpt: The Bible says emphatically that "without holiness, no man can see the Lord". But what is holiness in the end? It is a gift of God, or the work of man? Why is holiness necessary to eternal life if we are saved by grace alone through faith alone and in Christ alone? Well, Puritan Thomas Brooks unfolds the biblical truth that holiness, real and practical holiness, always accompanies salvation, and that to the end of a true believer's life. He explains and shows the need, the excellency, and the reasons for holiness. He paints then the portrait of a holy man and adds a number of means and helps to holiness, while at the same time giving biblical consolations to those Christians who may be burdened of their little, yet evident holiness. This book has been originally published in 1660. Current edition has been proofread, typeset for eBook readers, and slightly updated for modern readers.About the author: Thomas Brooks (1608-1680) was an English non-conformist Puritan preacher and author. He wrote extensively and with a keen eye on devotional Christian life. Brooks died after over 40 years of Gospel ministry, in 1680.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book came about when the Holy Spirit brought to my mind a vision, which I saw during one of my counselling sessions some time back. As my counsellor and I were discussing about some specific issues in my life that needed healing, I saw Jesus coming into the room and gently drawing out a broken part from my innermost being. I recognised this broken part immediately. She had short hair and was wearing long black pants and a long-sleeved white shirt. She had been feeling miserable all her life as she had carried a deep hatred in her heart toward her father. He had behaved as though he only had a son but not a daughter. I had earlier on introduced this part to Jesus during one of my quiet moments before going for counselling. She refused to listen to me. She said that “all men are the same.” I told her that Jesus is different—that he longed to woo her, heal her, and take the place of her father who was never a father to her. She was adamant, so I told her to take some time to consider.

Her twenty-five years in full time ministry include being executive director of a large church and vice president of a large international teaching ministry. Deborah founded Deborah Ministries International (DMI) in 1996 and continues to serve as its president. DMI reaches numerous denominations and cultures through Deborah's teaching in leadership training seminars, evangelistic crusades, and Bible schools in more than 20 countries across the world. The vision of DMI is to minister in answer to Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Her teaching is motivated by the scripture, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32). Deborah and her husband Harvey founded and pastor Crossfire Church, in Centennial, Colorado. They have been married for thirty-seven years and reside in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. To book Deborah for your next conference, visit her website at DeborahMinistries.org. You have been saved by grace, apart from your works. Knowing this to be true, what about all the good works you do as a Christian; do they matter at all? This pivotal question has many people either mistakenly trying to earn salvation, or working to maintain it. However, if you can understand where your works fit into God's plan, you will be freed from the confusion and futility of what the Bible calls dead works. Deborah's book untangles the concepts of salvation by grace and reward for works. Learn what the Bible says about the various heavenly rewards promised to Christians and how to earn them. This book will help you in the ultimate preparation for the moment when He says, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!" You have only one life to live, so learn how to get the maximum eternal benefit out of this life!

Book excerpt: As well as the name of a virus, a corona is a crown, the pearly glow around the sun in certain astronomical conditions and a poetic form where interlinking lines connect a sequence. It is the perfect name therefore for this new collection of 150 poems by the bestselling poet Malcolm Guite, each one written in response to the Bible’s 150 psalms as they appear in William Coverdale’s timeless translation. The Psalms express every human emotion with disarming honesty, as anger and thankfulness alike are directed at God. All of life is here with its moments of beauty and its times of despair and shame. Like the Psalms themselves, the poems do not avoid the cursing and glorying over the downfall of your enemies, but wrestle honestly with them as we do when we come to say them.

Book excerpt: In Essays on Christianity, the author delves deeper into many aspects of Christianity with strong emphasis on the End Times. He also shows there is an afterlife, something the “Whatever” generation has ignored or just assumed there is some kind of a higher power. The ultimate goal of mankind should be to spend eternity in heaven with a loving God rather than a fiery eternal sojourn in Hell. Considering our current era, it is important to seek God’s forgiveness for sins and become the person God created.

Book excerpt: Becoming a Christian is easy, in the sense that there is no application to be completed, no rigorous training program, no requirement to matriculate through a series of classes, or any certifications to obtain. However, in the simplicity of becoming a Christian we often fail to understand some of the basics. The believers basic tool, guide for living, is the Bible; the Word of God. It is the foundation of our faith and therefore we should understand: how it was written, the spiritual personalities it speaks of, what kind of life it calls us to, and the confidence we can have in a commitment to live according to its precepts. We will attempt to make A Case for Christianity; that is, to present evidence that will hopefully affirm our belief and strengthen our faith as Christians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people want to finish life well, yet so few take the time necessary to carefully think through what that entails. Some say it means contentment, happiness, and freedom from pain. Many desire to simply maintain their dignity and enjoy their family and loved ones. These are reasonable goals; yet, there is a more profound, uniquely Christian approach to the end of life. John Dunlop, a medical doctor who has practiced for over thirty years and specializes in geriatrics, combines his medical expertise, firsthand experience with patients, and firm commitment to Scripture to propose nine strategies for finishing life well. He shows how with proper physical, emotional, and spiritual preparation, aging and death need not be a fight to the finish but a purposeful resting in the arms of the Savior. Theologically robust and practically relevant, this book will prove to be a sensitive and helpful resource for anyone facing end-of-life issues.
