Download or read book Cosmic Witch written by Susan Demeter and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The first time I called myself a 'Witch' was the most magical moment of my life."― Margot Adler. Merry Meet! I am a witch who lives in a small mountain village in Italy, and witchcraft and magic are a daily part of my life. It has been a strange, wondrous, sometimes terrifying, and painful journey that brought me here from Canada, where I was born. When I first arrived in Italy, I had the opportunity to visit an archaeological site that was sacred to the indigenous pagans in the area. Alone, I thought this would be a great time to do some shamanic work and try to connect with any of the local spirits who might be around. Not only was I given the gift of many new insights, but I had the uncanny feeling that the Spirits of the Land and Sky were preparing a project for me. At the time I had no idea what that project was going to be, but I now understand it to be, at least in part, the writing of this book. An invitation to learn about witchcraft, what it is and how to do it. I am a modern cosmic witch, and this book will give you a good basic introduction to what it means to be a witch in the 21st century. "To reclaim the word witch is to reclaim our right, as women, to be powerful" - Starhawk. This is a book about witches and witchcraft written by a witch and designed to be accessible to anyone who has even had a mild curiosity about this subject. Here we will explore our traditions, myths, magic, female sexuality, the supernatural, and empowerment. I will write about the terror of the European witch hunts, and some of the historical witches I have come across in my research and how these women have inspired me. We will then fly up to the present day, when millions of people across the world are identifying as witches and pagans at a time when nature is at serious risk and Western society desperately needs to be enchanted. The intention of this book is to inspire, enchant, empower, and challenge you, whether you identify as a witch or not. Welcome to Cosmic Witch! Welcome to Magic!
Book Synopsis The Cosmic 21-cm Revolution by : Andrei Mesinger
Download or read book The Cosmic 21-cm Revolution written by Andrei Mesinger and published by IOP Publishing Limited. This book was released on 2019-12-23 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The redshifted 21-cm signal is set to transform astrophysical cosmology, bringing a historically data-starved field into the era of Big Data. Corresponding to the spin-flip transition of neutral hydrogen, the 21-cm line is sensitive to the temperature and ionization state of the cosmic gas, as well as to cosmological parameters. Crucially, with the development of new interferometers it will allow us to map out the first billion years of our Universe, enabling us to learn about the properties of the unseen first generations of galaxies. Rapid progress is being made on both the observational and theoretical fronts, and important decisions on techniques and future direction are being made. The Cosmic 21-cm Revolution gathers contributions from current leaders in this fast-moving field, providing both an overview for graduate students and a reference point for current researchers.

Download or read book Cosmic Plasma written by H. Alfvèn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general background of this monograph and the aim of it is described in detail in Chapter I. As stated in 1.7 it is written according to the principle that "when rigour appears to conflict with simplicity, simplicity is given preference", which means that it is intended for a rather broad public. Not only graduate students but also advanced undergraduates should be able to understand at least most of it. This monograph is the result of many years of inspiring discussions with a number of colleagues, for which I want to thank them very much. Especially I should mention the groups in Stockholm and La Jolla: in Stockholm, Dr Carl-Gunne Flilthammar and many of his collaborators, including Drs Lars Block, Per Carlqvist, Lennart lindberg, Michael Raadu, Staffan Torven, Miroslav Babic, and Itlgvar Axniis, and further, Drs Bo Lehnert and Bjorn Bonnevier, all at the Royal Institute of Technology. Of other col leagues in Sweden, I should mention Dr Bertel Laurent, Stockholm University, Dr Aina Elvius, The Stockholm Observatory, and Dr Bengt Hultqvist, Kiruna. In La Jolla my thanks go first of all to Dr Gustaf Arrhenius, who once invited me to La Jolla, which was the start of a most interesting collaboration; further, to Dr W.B.
Download or read book American Cosmic written by D.W. Pasulka and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than half of American adults and more than seventy-five percent of young Americans believe in intelligent extraterrestrial life. This level of belief rivals that of belief in God. American Cosmic examines the mechanisms at work behind the thriving belief system in extraterrestrial life, a system that is changing and even supplanting traditional religions. Over the course of a six-year ethnographic study, D.W. Pasulka interviewed successful and influential scientists, professionals, and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who believe in extraterrestrial intelligence, thereby disproving the common misconception that only fringe members of society believe in UFOs. She argues that widespread belief in aliens is due to a number of factors including their ubiquity in modern media like The X-Files, which can influence memory, and the believability lent to that media by the search for planets that might support life. American Cosmic explores the intriguing question of how people interpret unexplainable experiences, and argues that the media is replacing religion as a cultural authority that offers believers answers about non-human intelligent life.
Book Synopsis Mind and the Cosmic Order by : Charles Pinter
Download or read book Mind and the Cosmic Order written by Charles Pinter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-11-05 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this book is the relationship between mind and the physical world. From once being an esoteric question of philosophy, this subject has become a central topic in the foundations of quantum physics. The book traces this story back to Descartes, through Kant, to the beginnings of 20th Century physics, where it becomes clear that the mind-world relationship is not a speculative question but has a direct impact on the understanding of physical phenomena. The book’s argument begins with the British empiricists who raised our awareness of the fact that we have no direct contact with physical reality, but it is the mind that constructs the form and features of objects. It is shown that modern cognitive science brings this insight a step further by suggesting that shape and structure are not internal to objects, but arise in the observer. The author goes yet further by arguing that the meaningful connectedness between things — the hierarchical organization of all we perceive — is the result of the Gestalt nature of perception and thought, and exists only as a property of mind. These insights give the first glimmerings of a new way of seeing the cosmos: not as a mineral wasteland but a place inhabited by creatures.

Book Synopsis The Cosmic Evolution of Galaxy Structure by : Christopher J. Conselice
Download or read book The Cosmic Evolution of Galaxy Structure written by Christopher J. Conselice and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galaxies are the fundamental units of cosmic matter that make up the universe and they change in remarkable ways over 13.7 billion years of cosmic time. We are just now discovering how galaxies we can see over these billions of years are evolving from small, star forming systems to larger, more massive and passive systems at later times. This book explains the structural evolution of galaxies, how we measure it, how these measurements change with time, and how observing this reveals important information about galaxy formation and evolution. It also explains the future of the field through the use of machine learning tools, and how galaxy structure can be used as a new approach to measure unique features of the universe, such as cosmological properties and parameters.
