Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' are widely regarded as classic works of American literature. 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' follows the mischievous young boy Tom Sawyer as he navigates the challenges of boyhood in the antebellum South, showcasing Twain's skillful use of satire and humor. In contrast, 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' delves into deeper themes of morality and freedom as Huck Finn and the runaway slave Jim embark on a journey down the Mississippi River, tackling issues of racism and society. Twain's distinctive literary style is characterized by his keen observations of human nature and his ability to convey complex ideas in a straightforward manner. Mark Twain, a pseudonym for Samuel Clemens, drew inspiration for his novels from his own experiences growing up in Missouri and working as a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River. His wit and keen observations of society allowed him to critique the societal norms of his time, making his work both entertaining and thought-provoking. I recommend Twain's 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' to readers who appreciate timeless coming-of-age stories with social commentary. Twain's masterful storytelling and engaging characters continue to captivate audiences today, making these novels essential reads for anyone interested in American literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn contains two complete books written by Mark Twain. THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (Tom Sawyer's Comrade) THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER This edition has the original text and illustrations from 1884 Tom Sawyer, an orphan, lives with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother Sid in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, Missouri sometime in the 1840s. A fun-loving boy, Tom skips school to go swimming and is made to whitewash his aunt's fence for the entirety of the next day, Saturday, as punishment. ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (Tom Sawyer's Comrade) 1884 illustrated edition with the original text. The story begins in fictional St. Petersburg, Missouri (based on the actual town of Hannibal, Missouri), on the shore of the Mississippi River "forty to fifty years ago" (the novel having been published in 1884). Huckleberry "Huck" Finn (the protagonist and first-person narrator) and his friend, Thomas "Tom" Sawyer, have each come into a considerable sum of money as a result of their earlier adventures (detailed in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer). Huck explains how he is placed under the guardianship of the Widow Douglas, who, together with her stringent sister, Miss Watson, are attempting to "sivilize" him and teach him religion. Finding civilized life confining, his spirits are raised somewhat when Tom Sawyer helps him to escape one night past Miss Watson's slave Jim, to meet up with Tom's gang of self-proclaimed "robbers". Just as the gang's activities begin to bore Huck, he is suddenly interrupted by the reappearance of his shiftless father, "Pap", an abusive alcoholic. Knowing that Pap would only spend the money on alcohol, Huck is successful in preventing Pap from acquiring his fortune; however, Pap kidnaps Huck and leaves town with him. EXPLANATORY IN this book a number of dialects are used, to wit: the Missouri negro dialect; the extremest form of the backwoods Southwestern dialect; the ordinary "Pike County" dialect; and four modified varieties of this last. The shadings have not been done in a haphazard fashion, or by guesswork; but painstakingly, and with the trustworthy guidance and support of personal familiarity with these several forms of speech. I make this explanation for the reason that without it many readers would suppose that all these characters were trying to talk alike and not succeeding. THE AUTHOR. Why does this book cost more than other versions on Amazon? This edition is printed using a 12 pt. font and is designed to be more readable than other cheaper knock-offs. Make sure you "Look Inside" this book so you can see the difference.

Book excerpt: EXCEPTIONAL UNABRIDGED EDITION TWO NOVELS IN A SINGLE BOOK Read two of the greatest masterpieces of all time in a beautiful edition. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, first published in 1876, features one of the best-loved characters in American fiction. The novel is redolent of life in the Mississippi River towns in which Mark Twain spent his own youth. A sombre undercurrent flows through the high humour and unabashed nostalgia of the novel, however, for beneath the innocence of childhood lie the inequities of adult reality - base emotions and superstitions, murder and revenge, starvation and slavery. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885) is the direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Intended at first as a simple story of a boy's adventures in the Mississippi Valley, the book grew and matured under Twain's hand into a work of immeasurable richness and complexity. Both novels are commonly named among the Great American novels. Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910) was trained as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi river - 'Mark Twain', phrase used on riverboats to indicate that the water is two fathoms deep and therefore safe, became the pen name by which he was best known. Find the other "Great American Novels" in a beautiful book series by the editor Atlantic Editions : The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne Moby-Dick, by Herman Melville Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOU don't know about me without you have read a book by the name of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer; but that ain't no matter. That book was made by Mr. Mark Twain, and he told the truth, mainly. There was things which he stretched, but mainly he told the truth. That is nothing. I never seen anybody but lied one time or another, without it was Aunt Polly, or the widow, or maybe Mary. Aunt Polly—Tom's Aunt Polly, she is—and Mary, and the Widow Douglas is all told about in that book, which is mostly a true book, with some stretchers, as I said before. Now the way that the book winds up is this: Tom and me found the money that the robbers hid in the cave, and it made us rich. We got six thousand dollars apiece—all gold. It was an awful sight of money when it was piled up. Well, Judge Thatcher he took it and put it out at interest, and it fetched us a dollar a day apiece all the year round—more than a body could tell what to do with. The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me; but it was rough living in the house all the time, considering how dismal regular and decent the widow was in all her ways; and so when I couldn't stand it no longer I lit out. I got into my old rags and my sugar-hogshead again, and was free and satisfied. But Tom Sawyer he hunted me up and said he was going to start a band of robbers, and I might join if I would go back to the widow and be respectable. So I went back. The widow she cried over me, and called me a poor lost lamb, and she called me a lot of other names, too, but she never meant no harm by it. She put me in them new clothes again, and I couldn't do nothing but sweat and sweat, and feel all cramped up. Well, then, the old thing commenced again. The widow rung a bell for supper, and you had to come to time. When you got to the table you couldn't go right to eating, but you had to wait for the widow to tuck down her head and grumble a little over the victuals, though there warn't really anything the matter with them,—that is, nothing only everything was cooked by itself. In a barrel of odds and ends it is different; things get mixed up, and the juice kind of swaps around, and the things go better.
