This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Diseases of the Nose and Its Accessory Sinuses In 1899 I was awarded the Jacksonian Prize for an Essay on "The Pathology, Diagnosis, and Treatment of the Inflammatory Affections of the Nose and its Accessory Sinuses and Air-cells." Some of the investigations for that work have been continued and amplified, the whole Essay has been thoroughly revised, and additional chapters have been added in the endeavour to make the present book a complete treatise on the Diseases of the Nose. It has been my aim to give a concise yet full account of the Diseases of the Nose and its Accessory Sinuses, more especially with reference to their Pathology and Treatment, and I trust that what I have written may be of service to those Practitioners and Senior Students who intend to devote special study to this subject. The chapters have not all been written upon a uniform plan. A systematic account has been given of subjects upon which there has been no recent controversy, and upon which no great divergence of opinion exists. On the other hand, I have not hesitated to devote considerable space to the consideration of doubtful points, and, whilst indicating my own views, I trust I have stated fairly the opinions of others. To increase the usefulness of the work, I have added at the end of each chapter a short bibliography, containing references to the more important recent contributions to the subject. Every endeavour has been made to keep this list as short as possible, and to include in it nothing but what the student who seeks fuller knowledge or more details upon any particular point may consult with advantage. Minor references are given as footnotes. To ensure greater accuracy, all the references have been carefully verified by Mr. Archibald Clarke. I must here acknowledge my great indebtedness to the following works, which have been frequently alluded to in the text: Morell Mackenzie, Diseases of the Throat and Nose. Vol. ii. London. 1884. Spencer Watson, Diseases of the Nose. 2nd Edit. London. 1890. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Diseases of the Nose and Its Accessory Cavities The method of describing the different diseases pre sents little difference from that usually adopted. The volume opens with an inquiry into the physiology of the nose, only recently investigated: this has appeared to be of considerable importance, seeing that it has changed the whole aspect of the aetiology and treat ment of nose-disease. More space than is perhaps usual has been devoted to the subject of prognosis, the author having attempted to indicate precisely what degree of benefit may be expected from any given line of treatment. Book excerpt: Diseases of the Sinuses: A Comprehensive Textbook of Diagnosis and Treatment, 2nd Edition, offers the definitive source of information about the basic science of the sinuses and the clinical approach to sinusitis. Since the widely praised publication of the first edition, understanding of sinus disease has changed dramatically, mainly as a result of recent developments and new discoveries in the field of immunology. This updated and expanded edition is divided into sections addressing, separately, the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, medical and surgical management of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis. Special entities such as autoimmune-related sinusitis, allergy and sinusitis, and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease are discussed in separate chapters. The role of immunodeficiency is also addressed. The management section has been fully updated to incorporate new medical modalities and surgical procedures. Developed by a distinguished group of international experts who share their expertise and insights from years of collective experience in treating sinus diseases, the book will appeal to anyone who has an interest in sinus disease, including both physicians and allied health professionals. Internists, pediatricians, allergists, otolaryngologists and infectious disease specialists will find the book to be an invaluable, comprehensive reference. Physician assistants and nurse practitioners who work with specialists who treat sinus disease will also benefit from the book.

Using a practical, symptom-based organization, Nelson Pediatric Symptom-Based Diagnosis: Common Diseases and their Mimics, 2nd Edition, offers authoritative guidance on differential diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders in children and adolescents, and covers the symptoms you’re likely to see in practice, their mimics, and uncommon disorders. Bordini, and Donald Basel walk you through what to consider and how to proceed when faced with common symptoms such as cough, fever, headache, autistic-like behaviors, chronic pain, chest pain, gait disturbances, and much more. Begins with a presenting symptom and leads you through differential diagnosis and a concise review of treatment recommendations. Contains more than a dozen new topics including Disease Mimics: An Approach to Undiagnosed Diseases, Autistic-like Behaviors, Shock, Hypertension, Neurocognitive and Developmental Regression, Chronic Pain, Hypertonicity, Movement Disorders, Hypermobility, and more. Features a new focus on symptoms of rarer diseases that are mimics of more common diseases.
