Book excerpt: Everyone needs a reason to get up in the morning, they need a driving force or motive within themselves to spur and encourage them every day. Ultimately people are looking for some form of gain, adventure, fulfilment, enjoyment or challenge, and this may be expressed as a search for the answer to a worthwhile life and this book points the way to it. [63] It includes how to get the best out of life, or make a new start, and shows the steps to be taken using a personal, not formal approach. However, many others make the above claims, but the pathway given here is progressive, offers positive hope and security, and is based on the Christian Faith. (54) [117] The second part of the book provides backing for the earlier claims and goes much further by taking a detailed look at the Christian Faith using biblical scriptures, notes and quotations to explain the main elements of the Faith. It assumes no prior knowledge and avoids jargon. (47) [164]

Download or read book The Fourth Cup written by Scott Hahn and published by Image. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the bestselling author of The Lamb's Supper comes an illuminating work on the Catholic Eucharist and its link to the Jewish Passover meal. “Read this book. And don’t just read it. Pray about it. Reflect on it. And share it with others.”—Brant Pitre, author of The Case for Jesus In this brilliant book—part memoir, part detective story, and part biblical study—Scott Hahn opens up new vistas on ancient landscapes while shedding light on his own enduring faith journey. The Fourth Cup not only tracks the author’s gradual conversion along the path of Evangelicalism to the doorsteps of the Catholic faith, but also explores the often obscure and misunderstood rituals of Passover and their importance in foreshadowing salvation in Jesus Christ. Revealing the story of his formative years as an often hot-headed student and earnest seeker in search of answers to great biblical mysteries, Hahn shows how his ardent exploration of the Bible’s Old Testament turned up intriguing clues connecting the Last Supper and Christ’s death on Calvary. As Hahn tells the story of his discovery of the supreme importance of the Passover in God’s plan of salvation, we too experience often-overlooked relationships between Abel, Abraham, and the Hebrews’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. Along the way, Hahn reveals how the traditional fourth cup of wine used in the concluding celebration of Passover explains in astonishing ways Christ’s paschal sacrifice. Rooted in Scripture and ingrained with lively history, The Fourth Cup delivers a fascinating view of the bridges that span old and new covenants, and celebrates the importance of the Jewish faith in understanding more fully Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Book Synopsis From Consensus to Chaos: An Historical Analysis of Evangelical Interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:8-15 from 1945-2001 by : Stephen P. Dray
Download or read book From Consensus to Chaos: An Historical Analysis of Evangelical Interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:8-15 from 1945-2001 written by Stephen P. Dray and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2006-11-22 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evangelical interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:8-15 (certainly at the level of detail) has, in the period from 1945 to 2001, changed from one of received consensus to confused plurality. This thesis provides an explanation of this phenomenon by identifying and analysing the influences within evangelical interpretation that contributed to and shaped it. The first part of the thesis (Section A) is foundational. It establishes the validity of using the term Evangelical as an heuristic concept and provides, by means of a wide-ranging and unique analysis of published discussions of 1 Timothy 2:8-15, the necessary evidence to demonstrate the changes that took place. The major part of the thesis (Sections B and C) provides, for the first time, a detailed investigation of these changes. This is undertaken with a view to establishing: (i) the factors that contributed to establishing the early consensus, (ii) the circumstances which acted as catalysts to review and on-going change, and (iii) the developments which shaped the manner in which discussion subsequently took place and which contributed to the plethora of contemporary interpretations of 1 Timothy 2:8-15. In doing so it adopts a methodology which self-consciously combines both diachronic and synthetic approaches and is thus able (a) to isolate more effectively major trends and their development and (b) to provide a framework for a more rigorous analysis. The resulting study concludes (Section D) that evangelical interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:8-15 for the period from 1945 to 2001 was embedded in and shaped by contemporary social and ecclesiastical changes and by its own internal dynamics as it responded to these developments. In particular, differing responses to emerging theological, linguistic, historical and cultural discussions and to contemporary hermeneutical debates have proved decisive. While two broadly distinguishable (and conflicting) approaches developed, they spawned a plethora of different exegetical options and variant interpretations.

Book Synopsis The Influences That Moulded Him: People And Books by : Zacharias Tanee Fomum
Download or read book The Influences That Moulded Him: People And Books written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on 1901 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Zacharias Tanee Fomum never claimed to be a self-made man. Self-made people may end up as spiritual men, but not spiritual leaders. Spiritual leaders are a concatenation of kaleidoscopic influences. When God determines to use a man for His glory and for the advance of His kingdom, He moulds him through manifold human, angelic, spiritual and normal life influences. He finally becomes an ordinary man with an extraordinary life. "FROM HIS LIPS: THE INFLUENCES THAT MOULDED HIM" delves into the plethora of influences that moulded Him into the spiritual leader of his generation. From among his own people, he was influenced by his own family, parents, siblings, teachers, university lecturers and colleagues. He was influenced constructively by people across the board from every culture. From the Western World, there were such influential figures in his life like Professor Landor, John Wesley, Charles Finney and Charles Spurgeon, just to name a few. Watchman Nee from the Oriental World was like a spiritual father and main influence to him. He read many of his books from cover to cover on his knees. African and academic influences such as Professor Sundengam, Ruth Sengat Kouo and Bishop Festo Kivengere, among a host of others, made him a citizen of heaven in the world. With such an equilibrium of diverse cultural and spiritual influences, the Lord used him to speak to every manner of culture without fear or favour and without mincing words. These human and printed page influences moulded him and, he, in turn, was used by the Lord to mould and transform the lives of multitudes around the world. Read this book and that transformation will be yours
