Pink, #1 New York Times bestselling author of WHEN and DRIVE The cover graphic is a trailer for this profound book. The magical power of leadership is the effective blend of the courage of a lion with the curiosity of a cat. This myth-busting book will alter your leadership perspectives and practices by providing cutting edge substance, compelling examples, and insightful tools. —Chip R. Bell, author of Inside Your Customer’s Imagination All we know with absolute certainty is that we live in complex, uncertain, and rapidly changing times. Despite our best attempts to predict the future, we are often caught off-guard and surprised when it arrives. Whether a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, global economic shifts, political upheaval, or technological evolution, as senior leaders we must navigate these tumultuous times and make tough decisions to guide our organizations to success. Champion leaders want to be truly exceptional regardless of the maelstrom of change they are experiencing. Not only do they want their organizations to succeed, but they also want to live fulfilling lives. They want the same for those in their organizations and personal lives as well. How do we effectively lead in times of constant, often dramatic change? And, equally important, how do we simultaneously create a satisfying, meaningful life? The C2 Factor – the synergistic application of curiosity and courage – offers a path to both. This book reveals that when leaders manifest both traits, they embrace the professional and personal opportunities the future brings. When the landscape is shifting beneath our feet the C2 Factor enables us to lead more effectively and helps us cultivate more fulfilling personal lives. While other books have looked at curiosity and courage separately, The C2 Factor for Leadership examines how, when combined, profound curiosity and relentless courage lead to remarkable outcomes. One enhances the other in a powerful alchemy that improves our outcomes, how we show up as leaders in our organizations and as human beings in our personal lives. Beginning with ourselves and expanding to our relationships, our teams, our organizations, and to the world, this book demonstrates how the C2 Factor can be applied for superior results. To be a truly exceptional leader, to live a satisfying life, we must have profound curiosity and relentless courage. We must exercise the C2 Factor. Without it, we run the risk of being leaders who are robotic, academic, or reckless. With the C2 Factor, we can be champions.

Book excerpt: If you are the leader who tells organizational stories, people will start looking at you oddly. You want them to because you have achieved a tiny victory. You are fending off staleness by being the storyteller who reaches out and grabs the audience into the story instantaneously - rather than so many other leaders who only give their audience a case of the blahs. Be the person who leads in a zany, laughter-filled environment where politics is as absent as it can be in a human (i.e., imperfect) enterprise. Strip off your blinders as the crazy past is soon going to look like a mellow prelude - and create the organization that is exciting, creative, innovative, and a hoot. Just maybe the organizational fun line and the bottom line can intersect.

Using simple and clear methodology, and rich examples from a range of settings, this book: provides hands-on analysis with data sets from both SPSS and Stata packages; explores how to articulate the calculations and theory around statistical techniques; offers workable examples in each chapter with concepts, applications and proofs to help produce a higher quality of research outputs; discusses the use of formulas in the appendix for those who wish to explore a greater mathematical understanding of the concepts. Quantitative Analysis of Questionnaires is the ideal introductory textbook for any student looking to begin and or improve statistical learning as well as interpretation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to provide a comparative assessment of the significance of ‘human factors’ in effective counter-terrorism. The phrase ‘human factors’ is used to describe personal relationships, individual capabilities, effective leadership, technical interface, organisational culture and the community engagement necessary to effectively minimise, counter and control the threat of terrorism. Unlike many works in the field, this book is constructed around the input of ‘experienced knowledge’ from over 170 semi-structured interviews of specialist military, policing, intelligence and security practitioners - those actors actually involved in countering terrorism. These practitioners come from seven countries – the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain, Israel, Turkey and the United States – all of which have suffered over the years from different types of terrorist threat and responded with a mixture of counter-terrorist measures. Where military practitioners also discussed overseas counter-insurgency measures, that material has been included, since terrorism forms a key aspect of such wider insurgencies. The resulting interview data was analysed through a variant of ‘Grounded Theory’ to identify key emerging themes and issues, both positive and negative, relevant to ‘human factors’ in the individual countries and more generically. This book incorporates the informed operational experiences and insights of the interviewees while seeking to provide examples of successful counter-terrorist measures at the strategic, operational and tactical levels. This book will be of much interest to students of counter-terrorism, defence studies and security studies in general.

Book excerpt: The role of men in early childhood education and care is crucial for the future of all children growing up in a gender sensitive world. Achieving greater diversity and gender balance in the workforce has proved a challenging goal, despite concerted efforts on the part of individuals, institutions, and governments around the world. Many men remain reluctant to enter the profession, and once they choose this work many leave. This book explores how men in the field make their career decisions to remain in or leave the profession. Taking a broad international perspective and exploring the role of gender in these career decisions, contributors from around the globe unpack how gender concepts influence men’s career trajectories. Through their collaborative research, the team of 17 gender and early childhood researchers investigate various critical and relevant factors such as professionalisation, workplace environment, leadership, day to day interactions in the workplace, societal considerations, internal motivations, agency, masculinities, and critical moments in career decision making. Using cultural, racial, ethnic, and social class lenses to examine men’s career decisions over their professional lives, the contributors’ unique approach uncovers the complexity of the issue and offers evidence-based recommendations for policy both on national and local levels. These include practical suggestions to directors and managers who care about achieving a gender-mixed workforce. Accessible and enlightening, this is a unique resource for scholars, policymakers, and any others in the education community who support boosting the inclusion of men in early childhood education.

Management science and engineering is a systematic discipline that combines modern information technology and digital technology, and then uses some related discipline methods, such as systems science, mathematical science, economics and behavioral science, and engineering methods. After analyzing and researching some problems arising from social economy, engineering, education, finance, etc., and making corresponding countermeasures. The main purpose is to achieve control and planning, decision-making and adjustment in social, economic, education, engineering and other aspects, and then make improvements, and finally organize and coordinate. The relevant departments can be combined to achieve system management, so that the allocation of resources and the Management can be rationally optimized, so that individual functions can play the greatest role, minimize resource consumption, and maximize the optimal allocation of resources. This is also the ultimate research purpose. Liangliang Wang said:" Management is the productive force, which promotes the development of the country, society and enterprise. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new analytical framework for studying nuclear command and control (C2), based on a comparative study of four nuclear weapons states (NWS). The subject of nuclear operations management has long been shrouded in secrecy, and whilst the importance of nuclear C2 cannot be disputed, there are few academic studies into how and why states develop these systems. This volume includes a comparative study of the development of nuclear C2 by four different NWS (Britain, China, India, and Pakistan) and demonstrates that, despite several differences, there is a central set of factors that remain constant. The analytical framework used in this study identifies key factors that can potentially shape the evolution and stability of nuclear C2. These factors include geostrategic (threat) environment, international norms, leadership, and control of nuclear operations (civil-military control). The book also analyses the interaction among different stakeholders within the nuclear C2 enterprise. It recognises that politicians, the military and scientists all have key but different roles to play, and the way these stakeholders have learned to co-exist with each other is explored. This volume offers a set of dynamics that could form a global norm for nuclear C2, serving as a standard for new entrants into the nuclear club. This book will be of much interest to students of nuclear proliferation, global governance, and International Relations in general.
