Book Synopsis The Keyed Bugle by : Ralph Thomas Dudgeon
Download or read book The Keyed Bugle written by Ralph Thomas Dudgeon and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of The Keyed Bugle is an expansion rather than a revision of the first edition. The performance practice discussion has been extended to cater to the needs of the reader who wishes to learn the instrument. All chapters contain new information, and the chapters on Performers, Makers and Sellers have been extensively expanded. An additional chapter offers an explanation of the peculiarly distinct acoustics of keyed bugles and provides an analysis of construction styles employed by particular makers. After closely researching instruments that have been documented by the signatures of specific firms and comparing them with unmarked examples, the author enables readers to make confident observations on the nature of regional and manufacturer's styles. The new research in this area provides the groundwork for informed speculation about the origins of undocumented keyed bugles. This work puts the best of current research on the instrument into book form and provides the collector, performer, and serious music student with a clear picture of the instrument's history, repertoire, and technique.

Book Synopsis The Bugle Sounds: Life in the Foreign Legion by : Major Zinovi Pechkoff
Download or read book The Bugle Sounds: Life in the Foreign Legion written by Major Zinovi Pechkoff and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2012-04-03 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No military unit - not even the SAS - has been more glamourised, fictionalised, or been the subject of more myth-making than the French Foreign Legion. But despite the hype, quality first-hand accounts of life in the ranks of France's cosmopolitan elite colonial force are relatively rare. This is one of the finest of that select group. It is the work of the adopted son of the famous Russian writer Maxim Gorki. Pechkoff served in the Legion during the Great War, and later in North Africa. He was on peacekeeping duties in Algeria, and fought in the Rif Wars of the 1920s against the forces of the great tribal guerilla leader Abd-el-Krim. This memoir is based on the author's diaries, and was written while he was recovering from wounds in a hospital in the Moroccan capital, Rabat. Pechkoff gives vivid accounts of his rough, tough Legion comrades, and of fierce military action. He was one of a special 'Group Mobile' assigned to relieving Legion outposts besieged by the Rif rebels, and his accounts of the fighting pays tribute to the heroism of both sides. A first-class military memoir which gives the truth behind the romantic 'Beau Geste' image, this book has a foreword by the famous French writer Andre Maurois, a map of Morocco, the music for the legion’s anthem 'Marche de la Legion Etrangere', a frontispiece drawing of a Legionairre, and an appendix giving a brief history of the Legion from its foundation in 1831. A 'must-have' book for all lovers of the Legion and its literature, and for all students of desert and guerilla warfare.
Book Synopsis When You Hear The Bugle Call by : Peter Griffin
Download or read book When You Hear The Bugle Call written by Peter Griffin and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When You Hear The Bugle Call subtitled, “Battling PTSD and the Unraveling of the American Conscience” is a compelling, poignant and straightforward presentation of sickness and healing, righteousness opposing wrong doing, and the eventual triumph of the human spirit despite overwhelming obstacles and barriers. This very personal account of war and its aftermath was written to benefit combat veterans agonized by severe and chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), composed by one who is living the nightmare, one of their own, a fellow warrior. In the broader scope, this account is meant to help them, and their friends and loved ones to better understand this overwhelming psychological, involuntary, and innate response to continual, life threatening situations. This book will bring them to the realization that they are not alone in their sufferings, help is as close as the nearest Veterans Administration Medical Center and any caring individual who has read and benefited from the pages of this presentation. Furthermore, it is meant to assist, comfort, understand and equally as important, accept those who gave their best to defend and protect us. It’s not only the GI I am talking about but also the police officer, the fireman, and the rescue personnel… all those who are “damned if they do and damned if they don’t!” All the brave men and women who place their lives in jeopardy, everyday, for the sake of others… for the sake of something bigger than self! This presentation addresses every symptom, obstacle or negative circumstance a PTSD victim will likely experience or encounter, and must overcome, if he or she expects some semblance of peace, love, success, respect, and dignity in their lives! Victims of terror and natural disasters will benefit from this writing as well. In my opinion there is little, if any, significant difference between combat PTSD and PTSD manifested as a result of traumatic events that occur in the “civilian” world. This work is not an ordinary, run of the mill “shoot ‘em up” military memoir! PTSD negatively impacts every interpersonal relationship! This book clearly and frankly relates, in vivid detail, how PTSD affects victims in the work place and social settings. In today’s fast paced, very competitive, high stress work-a-day world virtually every victim’s well being, employment and/or career is at risk. There are no immunities or safe harbors! This account addresses those many complex issues and more! All who read this narrative will profit from its message! Spouses, grown children, friends, relatives, employers, supervisors, human resource managers, co-workers and the general public will benefit from first hand knowledge and look with newfound compassion and understanding on those who defend(ed) their life, limbs and freedoms on a daily basis.
