Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a revised and updated version of Introductory Quantum Physics and Relativity. Based on lectures given as part of the undergraduate degree programme at the University of Leeds, it has been extended in line with recent developments in the field. The book contains all the material required for quantum physics and relativity in the first three years of a traditional physics degree, in addition to more interesting and up-to-date extensions and applications which include quantum field theory, entanglement, and quantum information science. The second edition is unique as an undergraduate textbook as it combines quantum physics and relativity at an introductory level. It expounds the foundations of these two subjects in detail, but also illustrates how they can be combined. It discusses recent applications, but also exposes undergraduates to cutting-edge research topics, such as laser cooling, Bose-Einstein condensation, tunneling microscopes, lasers, nonlocality, and quantum teleportation. Contents: IntroductionOld Quantum TheoryQuantum MechanicsApplications of Quantum MechanicsSchrödinger Equation in Three DimensionsSpin and StatisticsAtoms, Molecules and LasersFormal Structure of Quantum MechanicsSecond Revolution: RelativityFine Structure of the Hydrogen AtomRelativistic Quantum MechanicsQuantum EntanglementSolutions Readership: Students taking undergraduate-level courses in quantum physics and relativity. Keywords: Quantum Physics;RelativityReview: Key Features: Combines Quantum Physics and Relativity. Covers the two subjects in a more coherent way than existing books. Many universities teach quantum physics and relativity together as one lecture course and so a book that covers both but also shows how they can be combined is a valuable resourceModern Choice of Topics. We will draw on topics from our own research to bring the two subjects up to date and give students a taste of cutting edge research. Examples will include such things as laser cooling, Bose condensation, tunneling microscopes, lasers, Bell's inequalities, quantum teleportationHas questions and answers -- ideal for self-study. This is pitched at typical exam level and so will be excellent for exam practice

I have written this book so that you can understand the theory without all the hard to understand equations and science speak. Once you understand quantum mechanics, you can use that knowledge to take control of your life. This book has three sections. It will teach you the science, and it will transform your life. The first section covers the science and a little history. It tells you how things work. The second section covers the philosophy. It tells you why it works that way. The third section covers magic. Because the science works the way it does, your mind is able to control your quantum reality. Take control of your life and reality. Let me tell you about Quantum Theory, and show you how to use it to make your life better. Buy a copy of The Layman's Guide To Quantum Reality and find out how to control your Reality!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph explains and analyzes the principles of a quantum-geometric framework for the unification of general relativity and quantum theory. By taking advantage of recent advances in areas like fibre and superfibre bundle theory, Krein spaces, gauge fields and groups, coherent states, etc., these principles can be consistently incorporated into a framework that can justifiably be said to provide the foundations for a quantum extrapolation of general relativity. This volume aims to present this approach in a way which places as much emphasis on fundamental physical ideas as on their precise mathematical implementation. References are also made to the ideas of Einstein, Bohr, Born, Dirac, Heisenberg and others, in order to set the work presented here in an appropriate historical context.

Book excerpt: The principal intent of this monograph is to present in a systematic and self-con tained fashion the basic tenets, ideas and results of a framework for the consistent unification of relativity and quantum theory based on a quantum concept of spacetime, and incorporating the basic principles of the theory of stochastic spaces in combination with those of Born's reciprocity theory. In this context, by the physicial consistency of the present framework we mean that the advocated approach to relativistic quantum theory relies on a consistent probabilistic interpretation, which is proven to be a direct extrapolation of the conventional interpretation of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. The central issue here is that we can derive conserved and relativistically convariant probability currents, which are shown to merge into their nonrelativistic counterparts in the nonrelativistic limit, and which at the same time explain the physical and mathe matical reasons behind the basic fact that no probability currents that consistently describe pointlike particle localizability exist in conventional relativistic quantum mechanics. Thus, it is not that we dispense with the concept oflocality, but rather the advanced central thesis is that the classical concept of locality based on point like localizability is inconsistent in the realm of relativistic quantum theory, and should be replaced by a concept of quantum locality based on stochastically formulated systems of covariance and related to the aforementioned currents.

A variety of processes are discussed with concepts such as potentials, classical current distributions, prescribed external fields dealt with in the framework of relativistic quantum mechanics. Then, in an introduction to field theory, the author emphasizes the deduction of the said potentials or currents. A modern presentation of the subject together with many exercises, unique in its unusual underlying concept of combining relativistic quantum mechanics with basic quantum field theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three key aspects of quantum gravity are considered in this book: phenomenology, potential experimental aspects and foundational theory. The phenomenology is the treatment of metric quantum fluctuations as torsional curves that deviate from classical expectations. This leads to possible experimental configurations that may detect such fluctuations. Most of these proposed experiments are quantum optical measurements of subtle quantum gravity effects in the interaction of photons and atoms. The foundational discussions attempt to find an substratum to string theories, which are motivated by the phenomenological treatment. Quantum gravity is not the quantization of general relativity, but is instead the embedding of quantum theory and gravitation into a more fundamental field theoretic framework.

Is time travel possible? Believe it or not, it is possible: welcome to the Quantum World! Unlike other arguments, however, the real difficulty is not in understanding, but in accepting something completely senseless, precisely in the right meaning of the term: not sensible, that is, contrary to the perception of our senses. You will notice that quantum mechanics is much "easier" than the theory of relativity. In fact, you could get a child to help you digest certain concepts. The great difficulty does not lie in their complexity, but their absurdity in terms of logic acquired after many years of existence in a world that constantly follows certain rules. The more the brain is free of preconceptions and ingrained notions, the better it is. ★★★In this book you will learn:★★★ What the interference is; How many dimensions the Universe has; Quantum wave function; What Particles of Light are. The relation between waves and particles; The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle; How particles can be in multiple places at once; Quantum entanglement; introduction to classical mechanics; black holes; …and much more! Quantum Physics for Beginners is at the basis of all the technological innovations of today, from atomic energy to computer microelectronics, from digital clocks to lasers, semiconductor systems, photoelectric cells, diagnostic and treatment equipment for many diseases. In short, today we can live in a "modern" way thanks to Quantum Physics and its applications. This short but comprehensive beginner’s guide to quantum mechanics explains the most important and stunning quantum experiments that show quantum physics is real. If you are a physic beginner looking for astrophysics books or books that can explain Physics in a way understandable also for kids, then this book is perfect for you! Are you ready? Book excerpt: This book is intended for physicists and chemists who need to understand the theory of atomic and molecular structure and processes, and who wish to apply the theory to practical problems. As far as practicable, the book provides a self-contained account of the theory of relativistic atomic and molecular structure, based on the accepted formalism of bound-state Quantum Electrodynamics. The author was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1992.
