Book excerpt: Liz Kulp, was diagnosed with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) as a young teen. Knowing her challenges and understanding her strengths helped her graduate from public high school and strive to move on to independent adulthood like her peers. But, she soon learned that life within the context of a family that understood and helped her gain the desire for independence had not prepared her to live in a world filled with predators and abstract thinking. Download or read book A Braided Cord written by Jim Warren and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes life long learning expressed often as allegory or metaphor, but derived from life long events. The braided cord reflects the union of body, mind and soul, but because I am a surgeon, the body is topmost in my mind and my book. My exploration of flesh, and the rest, derives from 40 years of surgery and anatomy. All of us are in nature and of nature and there are no natural borders that divide us. To see nature and ourselves as through a prism leads us to the perception that we are broken up from ourselves and nature in the spectrum and we create borders that are artificial. We owe it to ourselves to embrace the Universal so we can arrive at the point that we realize we and nature are one white light. When we do, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and a sense of unity will follow. I can't think how, in the past, I could have been so dumb. This book is both playful and intense but like nature, despite its diversity always returns, to a single theme.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All that is known of the first Willis to arrive on US soil is that he immigrated in 1730 and came from Wales. These stories of his descendants, however, offer a glimpse into the development and settlement of the United States and Texas. Extensively researched and written by Olive Elizabeth Martin Burns (ne Willis), a.k.a. Tucker, The Braided Cord: The Story of the Willis Family traces the lives seven generations of Willises through the present day. Tucker brings her family's past to life, chronicling their successes and failures, their military service and businesses, and the family's move to the rough-and-ready farmlands of Texas. You'll meet Peter J. Willis and his brothers, who first moved to Texas and established a successful business firm only to have a manipulative wife brings down the family empire. There's the story of Short Adam, a fifth-generation Willis who left Texas to live the life of a country squire in Connecticut, returning late in life with a young wife and three children. The history of the Willises is always set against the grand backdrop of Texas. To read this book is to understand the settlement of a state and the growth of a family.

Book Synopsis Splicing Modern Ropes by : Jan-Willem Polman
Download or read book Splicing Modern Ropes written by Jan-Willem Polman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time when every vessel going to sea made use of 3-strand rope has gone. Splicing that type of rope and cord is relatively straightforward. Nowadays the most common type of rope used on board yachts, dinghies, motorboats, working boats and ferries is braided rope. Few people have the knowledge to splice it, or even where to start. Splicing Modern Ropes is the first guide to this essential skill. It explains why splices are better – and stronger – than knots or shackles for joining or shortening rope, and how to go about it. With this skill, yachtsmen can customise their ropes, optimise their deck layout, taper their sheets for ease of handling, and splice an extra cover on their ropes to give better grip, avoid chafe and make them last longer. Using clear, step-by-step photography and detailed instructions, this book will guide readers through all the stages required to make strong, reliable splices.
