Book excerpt: Rainbow's SHADOW and the Covenant of Wisdom Rainbow's Shadow and the Covenant of Wisdom picks up where Rainbow's Shadow and the Tablets of Fate leaves off. Will, Jimmy and Bryan are back to their normal lives until Will is rushed to the hospital with a bizarre case of vertigo. With his head spinning like a top and dreams of his grandfather back in full force, Will is convinced he is being called back to Rainbow Alley for something big. He has secretly tried to gain access back into the portal for months, and his failed attempts to open the vortex have frustrated him beyond belief. Convinced the portal is permanently closed, Will sits in his hospital room confused. It was temptation which lured Bryan to take the shiny black stone as a souvenir from Rainbow Alley. Little did he know he had provided a way for evil to rejuvenate. As he admires the shiny black stone he finishes reading yet another Sorcerer's Shadow novel entitled The Pirate's Revenge. With the book resting up against the stone and another novel entitled The Island Where Magic Began, it only takes a few seconds for the evil forces of the Sorcerer's Shadow to emanate from the stone and open the portal. As the two novels meld together and the portal opens, Will finds himself confronted by an eccentric messenger who instructs him to return the stone. Once the stone is returned the Covenant of Wisdom will be revealed and provide the necessary knowledge to open the path to true paradise. Will and Jimmy find themselves on a new journey into a surreal world as they find access into the portal and into a new adventure. Their mission at first is to save Bryan but quickly transforms into a quest for all mankind.

These songs are nothing but the overflowing of the flood that he has received into his innermost being. These songs are no longer ordinary songs. These songs are not only those of a poet but those of a mystic - one who knows knows by living it; one who has tasted God who is drunk with God. -Osho

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Object Lessons: How Nineteenth-Century Americans Learned to Make Sense of the Material World examines the ways material things--objects and pictures--were used to reason about issues of morality, race, citizenship, and capitalism, as well as reality and representation, in the nineteenth-century United States. For modern scholars, an "object lesson" is simply a timeworn metaphor used to describe any sort of reasoning from concrete to abstract. But in the 1860s, object lessons were classroom exercises popular across the country. Object lessons helped children to learn about the world through their senses--touching and seeing rather than memorizing and repeating--leading to new modes of classifying and comprehending material evidence drawn from the close study of objects, pictures, and even people. In this book, Sarah Carter argues that object lessons taught Americans how to find and comprehend the information in things--from a type-metal fragment to a whalebone sample. Featuring over fifty images and a full-color insert, this book offers the object lesson as a new tool for contemporary scholars to interpret the meanings of nineteenth-century material, cultural, and intellectual life.

Book excerpt: This bilingual edition of Frost of Spring Green features both English and Russian translation of the poems in this first book of Frost of Spring Green Poetry Series. The English version is on the left page, and the Russian version is on the right page. Karen Jean Matsko Hood’s writing is bold and honest. She communicates in a simple, direct way that is sure to captivate readers. If you are not yet familiar with her work, you are in for a treat with Frost of Spring Green! The first book in the Frost of Spring Green Series can be read for pure enjoyment or as an insightful examination of our busy world. You may read one of her poems, enjoy its breezy wittiness, and then revisit it months later to discover something altogether fresh and new. This is what ultimately makes her poems lasting treasures: they reveal depth over time. Each reading promises something new, an additional layer of meaning that will enrich your daily life. Drawing from many of her poems already accepted for publication in international journals, Hood, as an emerging American poet and author, brings together unique verses in this, her first book of poetry. Hood’s poems remind us to value our link with nature and the environment in daily living. Her poetry voices outrage toward current social injustices, offers a voice for the downtrodden, and brings hope to the most hopeless of situations. She is optimistic in her quest for dignity for all life, and brings visual impact to her themes of nature. Frost of Spring Green will also be available in international bilingual editions. A collection of poetry ideal for reading time and again, this book makes a great gift for friends and family members.
