This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author has divided the book into three sections. Each section has a mechanical illustration that describes the context of a fundamental law or principle used by the founders when creating this republic and its levels of government. The first section describes the context of the fundamental principles found in "the Laws of Nature." The Laws of Nature restrict man's freewill and identify the areas of criminal law to be enforced by State governments in America. These principles of liberty provide the foundation for the two capacities of all citizens in the new republic. The second illustrates how these fundamental principles are represented in the design of "The Great Seal of the United States." The third uses mechanical illustrations to explain the context of the fundamental principles and terms used in each stage of development of the new republic and the powers at the different levels of government. The author uses the timeline found in the first constitution of the State of New York to explain the power the people had to control their government after joining the Republic. By establishing the requirement of consent from the People before any law was legal, the People of New York established a new form of government in their State. They could now control all law made by lawmakers and the size of the government in their State. This timeline also represents the mindset of the people in every state united as one people. Each person as a member of the new republic is equal in standing as a citizen. Each person, being a member of the republic and under the laws of liberty defining their freedom, can exercise both capacities at all times as a citizen regardless of his origin or the color of his skin.

Book excerpt: The 1850s saw in America the breakdown of the Jacksonian party system in the North and the emergence of a new sectional party--the Republicans--that succeeded the Whigs in the nation's two-party system. This monumental work uses demographic, voting, and other statistical analysis as well as the more traditional methods and sources of political history to trace the realignment of American politics in the 1850s and the birth of the Republican party. Gienapp powerfully demonstrates that the organization of the Republican party was a difficult, complex, and lengthy process and explains why, even after an inauspicious beginning, it ultimately became a potent political force. The study also reveals the crucial role of ethnocultural factors in the collapse of the second party system and thoroughly analyzes the struggle between nativism and antislavery for political dominance in the North. The volume concludes with the decisive triumph of the Republican party over the rival American party in the 1856 presidential election. Far-reaching in scope yet detailed in analysis, this is the definitive work on the formation of the Republican party in antebellum America.

Book excerpt: This book examines what 'republicanism' meant to the Americans who drafted and ratified the United States Constitution, guaranteeing a 'republican form of government' to every state in the Union. M.N.S.Sellers compares the writings and speeches of the founders with the authors they read and imitated to identify the central tenets of American republicanism, and to demonstrate that American republican though directly reflected classical models, rather than a mediating tradition of English or continental political theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this invaluable reference work, the world’s foremost authorities on France’s political, social, cultural, and intellectual history explore the history and meaning of the French Republic and the challenges it has faced. Founded in 1792, the French Republic has been defined and redefined by a succession of regimes and institutions, a multiplicity of symbols, and a plurality of meanings, ideas, and values. Although constantly in flux, the Republic has nonetheless produced a set of core ideals and practices fundamental to modern France's political culture and democratic life. Based on the influential Dictionnaire critique de la république, published in France in 2002, The French Republic provides an encyclopedic survey of French republicanism since the Enlightenment. Divided into three sections—Time and History, Principles and Values, and Dilemmas and Debates—The French Republic begins by examining each of France’s five Republics and its two authoritarian interludes, the Second Empire and Vichy. It then offers thematic essays on such topics as Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity; laicity; citizenship; the press; immigration; decolonization; anti-Semitism; gender; the family; cultural policy; and the Muslim headscarf debates. Each essay includes a brief guide to further reading. This volume features updated translations of some of the most important essays from the French edition, as well as twenty-two newly commissioned English-language essays, for a total of forty entries. Taken together, they provide a state-of-the art appraisal of French republicanism and its role in shaping contemporary France’s public and private life.

Book excerpt: Classic Books Library presents this brand new edition of “The Federalist Papers”, a collection of separate essays and articles compiled in 1788 by Alexander Hamilton. Following the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776, the governing doctrines and policies of the States lacked cohesion. “The Federalist”, as it was previously known, was constructed by American statesman Alexander Hamilton, and was intended to catalyse the ratification of the United States Constitution. Hamilton recruited fellow statesmen James Madison Jr., and John Jay to write papers for the compendium, and the three are known as some of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Alexander Hamilton (c. 1755–1804) was an American lawyer, journalist and highly influential government official. He also served as a Senior Officer in the Army between 1799-1800 and founded the Federalist Party, the system that governed the nation’s finances. His contributions to the Constitution and leadership made a significant and lasting impact on the early development of the nation of the United States.

This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this universe there are two forms of government: republican and non-republican. The U.S. constitution promises all Americans the republican form. Monarchies (rule by one), oligarchies (rule by the few) and democracies (rule by the majority) are each of the non-republican form. Each of these versions are characterized by government's sole reliance on Man's written and decreed law, called positive law. In contrast, republican governments rely on two kinds of law: both Man's positive written law and Nature's unwritten law. In a republic, Nature -- and not Man -- defines such concepts as case, crime, property, gender, marriage and natural born citizen. If republican legislatures could define the meaning of crime, then they could define who belongs in jail. If Congress could define the meaning of natural born citizen, then it could allow a foreign king to be U.S. President. Instead, as this book demonstrates, natural law - and not Man's positive law - determines both who are criminals and who are authentic U.S. Presidents. America's republics cannot exist without recognizing the duality of natural and positive law. Thus, the U.S. constitution's guarantee of a republican form of government cannot be fulfilled without understanding the political laws of Nature. When attorneys and government officials take oaths to the U.S. constitution, then they are taking oaths to uphold the republican form of government. Because this is the first book to define the republican form, then it is essential reading for such oath takers. As well, it is through this book that U.S. citizens can fully understand the meaning of their citizenship and the scope of their political rights.

Book excerpt: Black & white print. American Government 3e aligns with the topics and objectives of many government courses. Faculty involved in the project have endeavored to make government workings, issues, debates, and impacts meaningful and memorable to students while maintaining the conceptual coverage and rigor inherent in the subject. With this objective in mind, the content of this textbook has been developed and arranged to provide a logical progression from the fundamental principles of institutional design at the founding, to avenues of political participation, to thorough coverage of the political structures that constitute American government. The book builds upon what students have already learned and emphasizes connections between topics as well as between theory and applications. The goal of each section is to enable students not just to recognize concepts, but to work with them in ways that will be useful in later courses, future careers, and as engaged citizens. In order to help students understand the ways that government, society, and individuals interconnect, the revision includes more examples and details regarding the lived experiences of diverse groups and communities within the United States. The authors and reviewers sought to strike a balance between confronting the negative and harmful elements of American government, history, and current events, while demonstrating progress in overcoming them. In doing so, the approach seeks to provide instructors with ample opportunities to open discussions, extend and update concepts, and drive deeper engagement.
