The key that Opens that problem will unlock to the world the fairest half of this Republic, and free the halted feet of thousands whose eyes are already kindling with its beauty. Better than this, it will open the hearts of brothers for thirty years estranged, and clasp in lasting comradeship a million hands now withheld in doubt. Nothing, sir, but this problem and the suspicions it breeds, hinders a clear understanding and aperfect union. Nothing else stands between us and such love as bound Georgia and Massachusetts at Valley Forge and Yorktown. Chastened by the sacrifices of Manassas and Gettysburg, and illumined with the coming of better work and a nobler destiny than was ever wrought with the sword or sought at the cannon's mouth. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commissioned by the Governor of Alabama in 1962, this seminal work on the reality of racial differences remains one of the most concise works on the topic. Starting with an explanation of the workings of hereditary, the author moves on to an in-depth discussion of the fundamental--and, as he points out, unchangeable--racial differences between Europeans and Africans in particular. Addressed in this volume are the standard topics of physical, psychological and intellectual differences. It then moves on to the important effects these differences have on society, providing an explanation for the ongoing and disproportionately high non-white crime rate, which, the author shows is rooted in an physical difference which creates different behavioral patterns. It then discusses the influence of genetics on behavior and how this principle is used in the breeding of animals, before showing how this is equally applicable to human genetics. George then discusses the origin of racial differences, and the dangers posed by racial integration, before concluding with an overview of the historical record of the Negro race and destroying all the classical liberal explanations for its non-achievements. Finally, the author proposes a just solution to the problem: physical geographic separation which will be in the interests of all races. Also contains an appendix detailing the lies and subversion spread by the Jewish anthropologist Franz Boas who started the "environmental" school of anthropology. About the author: Professor Wesley Critz George (1888-1982) was a professor of histology and embryology at the medical school of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he chaired the Department of Anatomy. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies in the American Race Problem The purpose in which these papers are conceived may be read in their first word - the spirit in which they are written in their last. Neither is knowingly departed from. It is a difficult thing to do - this telling of the truth, the narrating of facts, without at once creating the impression of a partisan temper or a biased mind. Yet so far as this writer knows he has neither. For a number of years I have studied the various phenomena of racial contact which we conveniently designate the race problem. I have also studied the literature which treats of this problem. If the facts are confusing and difficult of comprehension the literature is scarcely less so. It fails, it seems to me, at a vital point, in that it is based on either side upon an assumed lack of honesty and absence of fairness on the other. The truth is that the conflicting American attitude on the race problem is an entirely natural product of the sectionalism which almost from the beginning has saturated and beclouded the whole subject. It is a humanly difficult matter for people in different environments to look at the basic cause of their differences through the same glasses. One trouble is that we have made too little honest effort to accomplish this difficult but necessary end. Book excerpt: This astonishing book, written by a Professor of Histology and Embryology, emeritus, and former head of the Department of Anatomy, University of North Carolina Medical School, was commissioned by the Governor of Alabama, 1962 in an attempt to scientifically establish if there was a biological basis to race. The results of Professor George's research were dramatic: race is a biological reality, despite leftist race-denial. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Black and White in the Southern States: A Study of the Race Problem in the United States I make no apology for adding another to the mass of books already written on this subject. Before it loses its intense burning interest for students of mankind, long before the black man and the white man live together in harmony on a basis mutually acceptable, many more books will be written. The keen intellect and tender conscience of the Twentieth Century both imperatively demand that the illogical and unethical attitude in which the races face each other in the Southern States and in South Africa shall be changed for one that we can justify, and with which the black man shall be satisfied. Our question is one phase of the greater problem of race and colour which touches all the European nations, and nearly every backward race and tribe throughout the Wide world. The problem of the Twentieth Century is the problem of the colour line. So far as I know only two men intimately acquainted by personal experience and residence in other countries in which black and white come together, have visited the Southern States and written their experiences thereon. One of these is Sir H. H. Johnston, who knows many parts of Africa with a knowledge that is in some respects unique. The other is Mr. W. P. Livingstone, author of Black Jamaica, who writes on the North American Negro in The Race Conflict, and who has a practical acquaintance with the race in Jamaica. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Through Afro-America: An English Reading of the Race Problem Within the veil; but, whatever our point of view, we cannot but admit that racial adjustment is one of the two or three most urgent problems of the near future. Ought the colour-lines drawn by Nature to be enforced by human ordinance, and even by geo graphical segregation? Or ought they to be gradually obliterated by free intermingling and intermarriage? Or, while intermarriage is for bidden (whether by law or public sentiment), is it possible for people of different colours to dwell together in approximately equal numbers and on terms of democratic equality? Or is it for the benefit of both races that one race should always maintain, by social and political discriminations, its superiority over the other? Or is this Opinion a mere hypocritical disguise of the instinct which begot, and maintained throughout the ages, the institution of slavery? As these were impossible to obtain, it is rather a collection of impres sions received from personal observations, which while falling short of scientific accuracy, may nevertheless be considered trustworthy. Indeed, the general trust worthiness of the picture presented by the monograph would not be questioned by any intelligent resident of the community in which the study was made. The few statistics which have been obtained from official sources and through personal investigation confirm the impres sions received from general observation. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Race and Population Problems This book, which is designed as a general introduction to population problems, is an outgrowth of the author's fifteen years of study of racial problems and his seven years' experi ence in teaching courses in population in universities. In it he has endeavored to combine the old type of textbook with the more recent type of a book of readings, and has striven to refrain from injecting his own conclusions. Such a method as here employed acquaints the student with the viewpoints, many of which conflict, entertained by numerous scholars, without subjecting him to any single view held by an indi vidual author. While it is impossible as well as highly im practicable to include all that has been written on the topics selected, the author has attempted, in the some 650 quotations and citations used, to present the major as well as some of the minor contributions to the field of population. The his torical point of View, from which the text is written, enables the student to grasp something of the complexity in the devel opment of population problems. If this book in any way helps to fulfill the need for a suitable text, created through an increasing interest in population and the rapid inclusion of population courses in colleges and universities, the author feels that his efforts have been rewarded.
