This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars have offered insight into the Davidic Covenant and the future hope for Israel. However, their works up to this point have overlooked a detailed influence of 2 Samuel 7 on Ezekiel 34 and 37. Therefore, reading the text of Ezekiel in relation to the original form of the Davidic Covenant may reveal further indications of the literary, theological and conceptual influence of 2 Samuel 7 and the help it provides in understanding the function of the promised ruler in Ezekiel 34 and 37. An intertextual approach proves to be relevant to establishing this influence. The intertextual approach used for the exegesis in this book establishes how biblical books are connected and proves the influence of the text of 2 Samuel on that of Ezekiel 34 and 37. The study of 2 Samuel 7 in relation to the Davidic Covenant underscores God’s faithfulness and concern for his people. Godly leadership is the kind of leadership that God desires for his people. Looking closely at the Davidic Covenant and God’s promises in Ezekiel’s text, we can see that they encompass important implications for African leadership.

From children's storybooks to Michelangelo's famous statue, ancient Israel's most famous king is still remembered and recognized by people around the world three thousand years after he lived. Helping readers deepen their understanding of David's tumultuous reign, John Woodhouse highlights David's important role in salvation history—a history that began with Israel but now encompasses God's plan for the whole world. Designed as a trustworthy resource for pastors who preach and teach on a regular basis, this commentary ultimately argues that David's story is important because it lays the crucial foundation for the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, "the son of David." Part of the Preaching the Word series.

Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God's Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) "Gospel Glimpses" highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) "Whole-Bible Connections" show how any given passage connects to the Bible's overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) "Theological Soundings" identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God's grace on every page of the Bible. In this 12-week study through the books of 1 and 2 Samuel, pastor Ryan Kelly offers insights into God's character through the stories of the prophet Samuel and Israel's first kings, Saul and David. With the inauguration of a monarchy in Israel, we see God's continued care for his people as he raises up leaders and promises to be faithful to his covenant by establishing a kingdom that will never pass away.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is Volume 3 of three volumes and contains a different collection of Bible topics than each of the other two volumes. These topics, like the previous topics in the other two volumes, will also allow the reader to easily identify and with little or no effort on their part to commit to memory exactly what God expects of them from within HIS written Word. Although this will not necessarily bring about the reader's ability to remember precisely where each of these topics appears in the Bible's book, chapter, and verse, it will, after reading enough of these topics, make their daily Bible reading much easier and so much more enjoyable due to their new-found understanding. The reader will also discover when studying topic by topic they will remember the subject matter much better than when these particular subjects flew by them at lightning speed while reading along in their Bible. These self-contained Bible studies work for everyone. It doesn't matter where one stands in their faith or how much they know about the Bible, these studies will work. For those who are well-rooted in the Word, these studies will work for them as a review; those who own an average understanding of God's Word will be able to use these studies not only as a review but also for learning something that God has said and they had previously missed. Those who know very little about the Word of God will be able to learn a great deal from these topical studies since they are self-contained and require no explanation because all commentary is backed up with book, chapter, and verse from the inspired Word of God. Those who know nothing about the Word and are seeking to learn about God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, their salvation, and the existence of this spiritual world they have heard so much about will now be able to learn straight from His Word right in the comfort of their living room whatever it is they want to know.

Authoritative texts and traditions can be rewritten and adapted to new circumstances and insights. Texts are subject to a process of change. The study of the ways in which these (authoritative) biblical texts are produced and/or received in various socio-historical circumstances discloses a range of theological and ideological perspectives. In reflecting on these issues, the central question is how to allow for a given text's plurality of possible and realised meanings while also retaining the ability to form critical judgments regarding biblical exegesis. This volume highlight that violence in particular is a fruitful area to explore this tension"--
