Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Vision, Vol. 1: Published Monthly by the Fort Wayne Bible Institute; October, 1936 It will speak very little of itself. It purposes to speak of the One who is altogether lovely, Jesus Christ the Lord of glory. It will make repeated references to the Book for its whole viewpoint is based upon the Scriptures. It may have little to say that is entirely new, but it is so enthusiastic about the old, Old story that it is confident of a hearing if it only faithfully reproduces the vision disclosed in the Bible. That means the perspective of eternity, the infinite reaches of grace, the fathomless love of God, and the world-embracing purpose Of redemption. Of course, it will want to chat informally with you about the good, Old B. T. S. (b. I. To later students). -and it will tell what it knows about others of the Bible Institute family working in various parts of the world. That no flesh should glory in His presence. And that, as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. God is the All in all. It is His as God to work everything. We, are _to work, but in the consciousness that it is God who worketh in us to will and to do. We are to work, but in such a faith in His inworking that all care as to our own strength, all fear as to our Own weakness, all pride as to our own performances, shall utterly disappear. We are to work, under the apparently depressing, but actually inspiring conviction - I am nothing; God is all. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Vision, Vol. 1: June, 1937 In this day you must be disillusioned. When you come to Bible school, -the church does not assume the responsibility to assimilate you. Some Bible school graduates find it so difficult to adjust themselves that they never fit into the life of the church. Don't forget that the things that you have acquired will never be learned until they are incorporated into actual life. Beyond these you will build a superstructure. SO you are just now beginning to learn. This is gratifying to parents. A son, after graduating from college wrote home to his father this terse message, Hymn 551, last verse.' The father hurriedly looked up the number in the Old hymnal, and there he found these lines, Troubles over, sorrow ended, Jordan passed. I want to speak to you on things that abide. We are not only living in a changing world; we are living in a perishing world. The great universe is dissipating its energies. When physicists study the physical world, they are sure that it is expending its resources. I think it is hard for us to predict what the future will be even in the light of the Scriptures. Everywhere there is a breaking down and going to pieces. We read in the Word that the outward man perisheth. It is true that in the physical universe nothing is annihilated, but everywhere there is change. Our political institutions and our standards Of right and wrong are undergoing profound modifications. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Vision, Vol. 1: April, 1937 God moves in a mysterious way, Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, His wonders to perform; But trust Him for His grace; He plants His footsteps in the sea, Behind a frowning providence And rides upon the storm. He hides a smiling face. Deep in unfathomable mines His purposes will ripen fast, Of never failing skill, Unfolding every hour; He treasures up His bright designs, The bud may have a bitter taste, And works His sovereign will. But sweet will be the flower. Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take! Blind unbelief is sure to err, The clouds ye so much dread And scan His work in vain; Are big with mercy, and will break God is His own interpreter. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Vision, Vol. 1: November, 1936 T HE whole history of civilization goes back to the day when man began to write records. Everything before that is prehistoric and shrouded in mist. It is the book which stands preeminent, invincible, overwhelming in the af fairs oi the human race. The Vedas gave us Indian social life and thought. The Book of the Dead tells the story of ancient Egypt. At the beginning, as some one has said, Sinai God and a tablet of stones; and at the end of all things earthly God and an opened Book. But between that earliest Revelation and God's last word is the Battle of the Books the Word of God, against the words of man. For there are many voices on religion, but only one Revelation. There have been many prophets, but only one Savior. That is the eternal issue. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the word of God abideth forever. In the last analysis all the sacred books of the non-christian religions are a challenge to the supremacy, the finality, and the sufficiency of God's Word. This is specially true of Islam; for the Koran professed to be a new revelation from God, supplanting that of Jesus Christ our Lord. From that 'day, ' down the centuries, the Koran has captured the tongues and minds and hearts of 250, pe'ople. There were a number of inquiries whether a similar event would be ar ranged next year. At any rate, appetites have been whetted, hearts inspired, and skills in Bible study improved. A writ ten word from Rev. Armin Steiner is representative of the verbal sentiments that were expressed. Mr. Steiner in an unsolicited letter writes: It has been a very profitable experience to me. I have been stimulated and refreshed so that I feel as I want to enter the Lord's work with greater zeal and devotion. If at all possible we (mrs. Steiner and I) expect to take a course again next year should one be offered. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Yet due to its size and antiquated expression, it has become almost unknown among current generations of believers. To help revive the usefulness of this classic book, Scott Brown and Joel R. Beeke divided Gouge’s work into three manageable volumes, updated the language to modern standards, and have given it the title Building a Godly Home. In the third volume, A Holy Vision for Raising Children , Gouge offers wise and practical advice to both children and parents on how to relate to each other with love and honor. Drawing from a wealth of biblical principles and examples, he fleshes out how a household of affectionate authority provides for children and prepares them to live as God’s servants in the world. Fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters will find much here to challenge and guide them.

Book excerpt: The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1965, volume 1, contains messages and fellowship given by Brother Witness Lee primarily from January through July 1965. A portion of this volume contains messages given in December 1963 and in March 1966. During the period from January through July, 1965, Brother Lee traveled extensively. In mid-February through mid-March he visited cities in Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Ohio. From the middle to the end of April he visited Mount Vernon, Missouri, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. At the end of May he traveled to South Carolina and Florida and then went on to Brazil, Peru, and Panama before returning to Los Angeles at the end of June. He also visited Sacramento, California, in mid-July and may have visited the Pacific Northwest. Regrettably, there is no record of his speaking in any of these places. At the end of July he held a weekend conference in San Francisco. The contents of this volume are divided into eleven sections, as follows: 1. Four messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 12 through May 25. These messages are included in this volume under the title Exercising Our Gifts to Build Up the Body. 2. Fourteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, the first nine of which were given from January 23 through May 29, and the remaining five of which were given on March 15 through 24, 1966. These messages were previously published under the title The Vision, Practice, and Building Up of the Church as the Body of Christ. 3. Fourteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 31 through May 18, 1965. These messages have been previously published under the title Preaching the Gospel in the Way of Life. The published book contained thirteen chapters. However, during research for The Collected Works, an additional message was discovered. This message is included in this volume as the first chapter. 4. Four messages given in Los Angeles, California, on April 9 through 11. These messages have been previously published under the title The Experience of Christ in Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. 5. Six messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 15 through April 2. These messages are included in this volume under the title Study on Hebrews. 6. Three messages given in Los Angeles, California, on May 7 through 21. These messages are published in this volume under the title Notes on 1 Timothy. 7. Two messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 2 and 9. These messages are included in this volume under the title Study on Titus. 8. Four messages given in San Francisco, California, on July 23 through 25. One of the messages was spoken in Chinese and translated simultaneously into English. The English translation was edited for inclusion in this section. The messages given in this conference are included in this volume under the title Summer Conference in San Francisco. 9. One message that first appeared as an article in volume 3, number 1 of The Stream magazine in May 1965. The date and place of the original spoken message are uncertain. This message was previously published under the title The Baptism in the Holy Spirit. 10. One message that was first published as an article in volume 4, number 2 of The Stream magazine in May 1966. There is some evidence that it was spoken in Los Angeles, California, in the summer of 1965. The original article was later revised and published as a booklet entitled The Vision of the Church in 1968. This booklet is included in this volume under the same title. 11. Two messages given in Los Angeles, California, on December 24 and 26, 1963. The two messages were published in 1994 as chapters 4 and 6 of The Life and Way for the Practice of the Church Life, which is included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1963, volume 4. They first appeared in May 1965 in a slightly different form as a two-part article entitled The All-inclusive Spirit of Christ in volume 3, number 1 of The Stream magazine. The original article was later revised and printed as a booklet under the same title in 1969. This booklet, including the four diagrams that do not appear elsewhere, is included in this volume under the same title.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Vision, Vol. 1: A Monthly Journal Reflecting the Light of the Bible on Us and Our Times; February, 1937 Our generation is in a state of confusion. And certainly without the sure anchorage of our faith there are more than enough cross currents and winds of doctrine to produce instability. Science, guided by no purpose, has discovered a bewildering lot of facts that leave most persons wondering what they are all about. The accepted moral standards have either been repudiated or reduced to changing mores. For most people there are no fixed points in the moral universe. The break with the tested values of the past is almost complete and the future is faced without the wisdom of, experience. The whole social order is in a state of flux and profound changes are taking place with breath-taking rapidity. And in the midst of the confusion, our age is not without its false prophets offering their gospel of shallow optimism: Peace, peace, when there is no peace. Thank God for the foundation that standeth sure! We have not followed cunningly devised fables but we have a more sure word of prophecy. With Luther we can stand upon the immutable promise, For ever, 0 Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. But the rock of our faith becomes efficacious only as We place our feet squarely upon it. It must be the foundation for belief, for character, for life, for victory. It is God's will and provision that we withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. It is only then that we can lenda hand to others. So long as we ourselves are in doubt and confusion, without a certain grasp of truth, we can give little help to those who are flounder ing all about us. Timothy was advised first to hold fast the form of sound words and to keep that good thing which was committed unto him. After that he was to commit it to others (ii Tim. 1: 13, 14. In 1982 Brother Lee spoke eighty-six messages that were published in Life-study of 2 Corinthians, Life-study of Exodus, Life-study of 1 Thessalonians, and Life-study of 2 Thessalonians. The Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. During the first three weeks of the year Brother Lee remained in Anaheim, California.
