This book is written to help any person brand new to the church. It covers basic information to gain a general understanding of Christianity, covering the history as well as the Gospel and Bible stories. About life before Christ with Judaism and the Old Testament. About Jesus and the New Testament and just how his coming really did change everything for everyone. In this book I try to answer all the questions I first had when I started attending church. What is the eucharist? Why recite all those old creeds and who wrote them anyway? Why all the robes and ceremony? From the early church in Jerusalem to the Roman Empire when it embraced Christianity. To the Reformation and the split from Rome. And how can the Bible, written thousands of years ago, be able to give comfort, strength, hope and faith to someone living in today's society?

This led to tales of Romanies, of the Northamptonshire Smiths, Loveridges, Scarrotts and Boswells and the discovery of Charlie Chaplin's birth in a caravan on the Black Patch. Then to the French Mazoyers and a watchmaker's shop in Soho. Stories of Evans and Wormull ? surgical instrument makers to the Army and government. Then the Baker family of Eastbourne and Herstmonceux. Seaside concert parties ? Fred Austin's Merrie Middies. Then to war and Stalag IVb POW, buzzbombs and blackouts. The Snell family of Mortimer and the Arlotts of Watership Down. The Shields family of Peckham ? pie, mash and poverty. Then to music - the '60s and The Twilights and the Star Club, Hamburg. This information shared here was told to me directly from the mouths of those involved ? who lived, breathed and experienced all of this.""

Book excerpt: This book features the early quotes of Rik Mayall and his thoughts and views on the art of comedy. In the history of comedy, there's been a small group of special individuals: WC Fields, Stan, Oliver Hardy, Spike Milligan, Tony Hancock, Tommy Cooper, Peter Cook, John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson and Rik Mayall. Rik Mayall exploded on to the comedy scene in the 1980s. He was so original, successful and hysterically funny that he became the most loved comic in Britain. Explode he really did - at the forefront and the leader of this new 'alternative comedy', he was shocking, exciting and breath-taking, provoking hysteria similar to the beginnings of rock'n'roll. This book documents his first ten years in 'showbiz' from 1976 in Manchester to being at no.1 in the pop charts with Cliff Richard. This book features the early quotes of Rik Mayall and his thoughts and views on the art of comedy with rare pics and quotes from those who knew and loved him. 'So do up your trousers, keep your shoes clean and throw away your old Young Ones scrapbook as this book has it all'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholarly essays on the achievements of female artists working in and inspired by the American South Looking back at her lengthy career just four years before her death, modernist painter Nell Blaine said, "Art is central to my life. Not being able to make or see art would be a major deprivation." The Virginia native's creative path began early, and, during the course of her life, she overcame significant barriers in her quest to make and even see art, including serious vision problems, polio, and paralysis. And then there was her gender. In 1957 Blaine was hailed by Life magazine as someone to watch, profiled alongside four other emerging painters whom the journalist praised "not as notable women artists but as notable artists who happen to be women." In Central to Their Lives, twenty-six noted art historians offer scholarly insight into the achievements of female artists working in and inspired by the American South. Spanning the decades between the late 1890s and early 1960s, this volume examines the complex challenges these artists faced in a traditionally conservative region during a period in which women's social, cultural, and political roles were being redefined and reinterpreted. The presentation—and its companion exhibition—features artists from all of the Southern states, including Dusti Bongé, Anne Goldthwaite, Anna Hyatt Huntington, Ida Kohlmeyer, Loïs Mailou Jones, Alma Thomas, and Helen Turner. These essays examine how the variables of historical gender norms, educational barriers, race, regionalism, sisterhood, suffrage, and modernism mitigated and motivated these women who were seeking expression on canvas or in clay. Whether working from studio space, in spare rooms at home, or on the world stage, these artists made remarkable contributions to the art world while fostering future generations of artists through instruction, incorporating new aesthetics into the fine arts, and challenging the status quo. Sylvia Yount, the Lawrence A. Fleischman Curator in Charge of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, provides a foreword to the volume. Contributors: Sara C.
