Book Synopsis The Extent of the Atonement by : David L. Allen
Download or read book The Extent of the Atonement written by David L. Allen and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 921 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extent of Christ’s atoning work on the cross is one of the most divisive issues in evangelical Christianity. In The Extent of the Atonement: A Historical and Critical Review, David L. Allen makes a biblical, historical, theological, and practical case for a universal atonement. Through a comprehensive historical survey, Allen contends that universal atonement has always been the majority view of Christians, and that even among Calvinist theologians there is a considerable range of views. Marshalling evidence from Scripture and history, and critiquing arguments for a limited atonement, Allen affirms that an unlimited atonement is the best understanding of Christ’s saving work. He concludes by showing that an unlimited atonement provides the best foundation for evangelism, missions, and preaching.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Two Treaties is a fascinating Christian sermon on the Israeli-Palestinian fight for Jerusalem. Excerpt: "But we must look farther still, and the eye must reach even beyond the return of Israel. There are many ready to say that they do not care much whether the Jews are restored or not, for it will make very little difference to them. But we must remember that the return of the Jews will be but the beginning of the end, for there are far greater blessings beyond. We must never forget the promise in Psalm xii. 16, "When the Lord shall build up Zion He shall appear in His glory."

Book Synopsis The Doctrines of Grace by : Charles H. Spurgeon
Download or read book The Doctrines of Grace written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-12-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My own private opinion is that there is no such thing as preaching Christ and him crucified, unless you preach what now-a-days is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else. I do not believe we can preach the gospel, if we do not preach justification by faith, without works; nor unless we preach the sovereignty of God in his dispensation of grace; nor unless we exalt the electing, unchangeable, eternal, immutable, conquering, love of Jehovah: nor do I think we can preach the gospel, unless we base it upon the peculiar redemption which Christ made for his elect and chosen people; nor can I comprehend a gospel which lets saints fall away after they are called, and suffers the children of God to be burned in the fires of damnation after having believed. Such a gospel I abhor. The gospel of the Bible is not such a gospel. We preach Christ crucified in a different fashion, and to all gainsayers we reply. "We have not so learned Christ." (Charles Spurgeon)
Download or read book Redemption written by Edward Hoare and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2019-12-18 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Redemption' is a Christian book that attempts to explain the concept of Redemption to a general audience. In Christian theology, redemption refers to the deliverance of Christians from sin. It assumes an important position in salvation because the transgressions in question form part of a great system against which human power is helpless. Redemption is seen as a metaphor for what is achieved through the Atonement; therefore, there is a metaphorical sense in which the death of Jesus pays the price of a ransom, releasing Christians from bondage to sin and death.
Book Synopsis The Breadth, Freeness, and Yet Exclusiveness of the Gospel by : Edward Hoare
Download or read book The Breadth, Freeness, and Yet Exclusiveness of the Gospel written by Edward Hoare and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edward Horae, through this work, attempted to consider whether the Gospel, as revealed in Scripture, is really broad or really narrow. He stated that while openly admitting that the most general statement of the Gospel is most probably the truest, it is yet to be decided which statement really is the broadest and on which side can the narrowness be found. He tried to answer this question by applying the tests of breadth and fulness to the message of salvation as revealed in the Gospel.

This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Popery: The Accommodation of Christianity to the Natural Heart" by Edward Hoare is a lecture, delivered by the author before the Islington protestant institute in 1848. Excerpt: "There are thousands who feel the power of the Gospel, but who never know its grace. It throws its light beyond the range of its salvation, and just in proportion as that light breaks in upon a natural heart does it quicken conscience, and revive the uneasiness of sin. When the revealed word is never presented, the law of nature becomes gradually obscured... "
Book Synopsis The Communion and Communicant by : Edward Hoare
Download or read book The Communion and Communicant written by Edward Hoare and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Communion and Communicant" by Edward Hoare is a religious book about Eucharist, a Holy Communion, or the Lord's Supper. Excerpt: "There is no institution more delightful to the Christian than the holy sacrament of the Lord's Supper. It is a touching remembrance of a Redeemer's love—a refreshing means of grace to the soul—a happy communion of the Lord's believing family—and a gladdening foretaste of the marriage supper of the Lamb. With what heartfelt gratitude should believers rejoice in such a feast! But it is not to all a feast of joy. Some neglect it from a total want of inclination; some receive it in a careless, worldly spirit, and to them it soon becomes an empty form, like a vessel in which is no water; while others regard it as an awful mystery—as something too high for such as they are, and, like the holy of holies in the temple, beyond the reach of common men."
Book Synopsis That Was The Church That Was by : Andrew Brown
Download or read book That Was The Church That Was written by Andrew Brown and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unexpectedly entertaining story of how the Church of England lost its place at the centre of English public life - now updated with new material by the authors including comments on the book's controversial first publication. The Church of England still seemed an essential part of Englishness, and even of the British state, when Mrs Thatcher was elected in 1979. The decades which followed saw a seismic shift in the foundations of the C of E, leading to the loss of more than half its members and much of its influence. In England today 'religion' has become a toxic brand, and Anglicanism something done by other people. How did this happen? Is there any way back? This 'relentlessly honest' and surprisingly entertaining book tells the dramatic and contentious story of the disappearance of the Church of England from the centre of public life. The authors – religious correspondent Andrew Brown and academic Linda Woodhead – watched this closely, one from the inside and one from the outside. That Was the Church, That Was shows what happened and explains why.
