Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Art of Spiritual Harmony The last few years have in some measure removed this absurdity, by destroying the old convention that it was middle-class to be sane, and that between the artist and the outer-world yawned a gulf which few could cross. Modern artists are beginning to realize their social duties. They are the spiritual teachers of the world, and for their teaching to have weight, it must be comprehensible. Any attempt. The brain of the objective mind is not the only brain you have. Do you know where the solar plexus is, the central sun of the organism? Of course you do. Well, there is the brain or instrument of the subjective mind just as much as the brain Of the head is the instrument Of the objective mind. Oh, do you wonder when we speak of what a serious thing it is to Oppress the most vital part of your being, when it means sacrificing your soul development to a false idea Of beauty? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wassily Kandinsky s contributions as a theorist were arguably more influential on modern art than any of his paintings. In Concerning the Spiritual in Art, first published in 1914, Kandinsky both promotes and defends a form of art in which painters express themselves in abstract terms independent of the material world around them, much as musicians do. Divided into two parts, About General Aesthetic (including an examination of geometrical forms) and About Painting (a discussion of the psychology of color and the language and form of color), Concerning the Spiritual in Art offers an insight into the mind of one of the most renowned of all abstract painters and a preview of the art that he was to produce in the years to come. Russian painter WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866 1944), one of the most famous artists of the 20th century, pioneered abstract art. His other books include Point and Line to Plane and Kandinsky, Complete Writings on Art."

Book excerpt: "If one can be balanced and harmonious in oneself, then the being that is fundamentally so is clear and aware, awake in quietude, accurate in action; thus one can respond to the less changes in the world." The Book of Balance and Harmony is a classic thirteenth-century anthology of Taoist writings, including essays, conversations, poetry, and songs from the School of Complete Reality. The writings combine the essences of Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism into an alchemical elixir teaching Vitality, Energy, and Spirit -- the "three treasures" of Taoism that promise mental and physical well-being. This first translation into English of a major text of Taoism is rered and introduced by Thomas Cleary, who has been called the premier translator of Buddhist and Taoist texts. Among his many published works are original translations of monuments of Oriental spirituality, such as The Flower Ornament Scripture, the most sophisticated and comprehensive of primary Buddhist sourcebooks; The Blue Cliff Record, one of the major literary classics of Zen Buddhism; and Understanding Reality, the definitive classic of Taoist spiritual alchemy.

Book excerpt: Third in the Books of Wisdom series, The Art of Life -- Living Together in Harmony is unique in the field of spirituality. In addition to developing your spiritual life, it provides help in resolving complex human relationship problems. "This is not the time or place to rearrange your life, but you must begin now if you are stuck. Once you know who you are and why you are as you are, you can love others. To love, you must first know you! Life is a joy-if you are aware of why you are here." The Teachers of the Higher Planes Don't be fooled by the simplistic style of The Teachers. Their mission is to get out the word that Earth is in grave danger-and it will take all of us working together in harmony to save it! Their common sense approach delves into the deepest recesses of the human heart and covers what we worry about and hope no one else can see. Meanwhile, how are things going in your life? Do you ever feel as if others don't understand or respect you? Wondering if it's possible to succeed in business and enjoy loving relationships? The Teachers cover it all! The Teachers insist that building relationships, as well as maintaining them is fairly simple, but admit there is a degree of commitment and work involved. Each chapter of The Art of Life contains diverse lessons, plus thoughtful exercises designed to improve your life now and your ability to ascend when it ends by Living Together in Harmony. Although many cannot see it now, we are all alike. We must rise above this world to see what lies beyond us...and reading The Art of Life -- Living Together in Harmony is a great place to start! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Yijing (I Ching) or "Book of Change" is one of the oldest of the Chinese classic texts and has held a key place in the Daoist tradition for thousands of years. Explaining the ancient Yijing system of prediction based on the Xiang (symbolism) and Shu (numerology) knowledge of Bagua (the eight basic trigrams), which have not previously been written about outside China, this book makes the Yijing accessible to the Western world in a new and fuller way. In the space of just eight days, Master Zhongxian Wu leads the reader towards a deep understanding of the Eight Trigrams of the Yijing and how to apply this knowledge in practical ways in daily life. Master Wu explores the numerology and symbolism of Yijing and clearly explains how the reader can use the Yijing divination system for themselves. This remarkable book provides a user-friendly eight day program that will be a fascinating read for anyone with an interest in learning more about the Yijing or Chinese philosophy and culture as a whole, as well as those who wish to learn how to use the Yijing for practical purposes.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science and Art of Religion The design exhibited on the cover has been taken from a jewel which is highly prized by freemasons, but I have ventured to place a blazing star in the centre, instead of the human face with the compasses and sphere. Freemasonry appears to me to represent the societies formed by Hebrew and Egyptian priests, and by priests of all ancient nations, to preserve the sacred symbolical language of primitive man before his degra dation; and freemasonry has especially to deal with the collection of sacred symbols made by Solomon and embodied in the Temple. The majority of freemasons probably see nothing in their society beyond a social and benevolent club, and are content to learn a ritual by rote without having any idea of its spiritual meaning, though they are taught that freemasonry is a system of morality, veiled in allegory, and illustrated by symbol. The essential teaching of freemasonry is the duty of striving after perfect archetypes, and especially of cultivating the mind to perfection by the worship of the Archetypal Mind. One of the earliest positive masonic commands was that given by God to Abram, Walk before Me, and be thou perfect. The mind is composed of the intellect or reason, the emotion or feeling, and the will or volition, and these are surrounded and supported by the memory. The intellect corresponds to the brain, the emotion to the nerves. The will to the muscles, and the memory to the blood; while the spirit, or ego, or consciousness, is the life. The spirit is represented by the blazing star in the centre of the equilateral triangle, and the science and art of religion treat of the cultivation of the intellect, the emotion, and the will by the spirit: the mind is perfect when the three elements of mind are equally cultivated and in perfect harmony with one another; and the Circle which surrounds the triangle symbolizes perfection as well as memory. My design shows the perfect mind as existing after death, when the compasses and square will be no longer needed to correct deformi ties; but the masonic design represents Adam before the Fall, when, although his mind was perfect. He had to keep constantly on his guard against imperfection. The freemasons Show the spirit, or the man, as pro vided with the compasses, to indicate that man has been given a conscience to recognize the perfect, and that it is his duty to make his own mind perfect no matter how little his ability, since a circle is equally perfect whether large or small.
