HENRY HEAVISIDES. Henry Heavisides was born November 29th, 1791, at Darlington, where he received a tolerable education at the Grammar School there. Having finished his apprenticeship with his father, a bookseller in that town, he was left to make his way in the world as a journeyman printer. In 1814 he got employment at Stockton, where he has since resided. For many years he was a contributor to the periodicals of the day; but it was not until 1837, when he had reached the forty-fifth year of his age, that he published his "Pleasures of Home, and other Poems." In 1840 he published a second edition of that work, and in 1849 he issued a third edition from his press. In 1860 he produced a prose work, entitled "The Minstrelsy of Britain," the whole edition of which was sold in three months, and in 1864 he produced another volume in prose, called "Courtship and Matrimony."
