Book excerpt: An edgy, gripping report from the front lines by a young veteran and cast member of The Real World: Brooklyn Ryan Conklin enlisted in the Army at age seventeen, following 9/11, and joined Angel Company. As a turret gunner with the famed 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles," and a member of the famed "Rakkasans" regiment-the most decorated regiment in the U.S. Army-he endured hellish conditions in the war-torn city of Tikrit, Iraq. When he returned to the States, he became a cast member on The Real World: Brooklyn in 2008. That came to an end when he received his notice recalling him to duty. An Angel from Hell is a gritty, blunt, and laughout-loud funny war memoir from the grunt's perspective. Conklin reveals what the Iraq war is really like, day to day-the misery, the boredom, the absurdity, the horror, and even the moments of grace. With stunning candor and wisdom beyond his years, Ryan Conklin has documented a complex and unavoidably life-changing experience for his generation.

Even some of the sweetest beginnings end up in heartbreaks—even in violence. Author Warren W. Pratt opens readers’ eyes to some of life’s cruel realities as he pens an emotion-stirring novel, Angel from Hell, released through Xlibris. This fictional tale follows a man’s journey and the woman in his life. Already with two failed marriages, he decides to concentrate on his work. However, when his company sends him to Mongolia, he unexpectedly finds the woman he finally wants to spend the rest of his life with—or so he thinks. The first weeks seemed perfect for them, as love overflowed every single minute. Months passed, the woman got pregnant, and they decided to marry. After their marriage however, the woman changed. She became impatient, irritable, disrespectful, and violent towards her husband. She would throw things at him and manipulate her children to go against their father. Wounding yet based on true life experiences, Angel from Hell sends a dose of reality to readers. It is a wakeup call for readers, young adults and adults, to be careful in choosing their partners in life. For more information on this book, log on to www.Xlibris.com.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of punishment after death—whereby the souls of the wicked are consigned to Hell (Gehenna, Gehinnom, or Jahannam)—emerged out of beliefs found across the Mediterranean, from ancient Egypt to Zoroastrian Persia, and became fundamental to the Abrahamic religions. Once Hell achieved doctrinal expression in the New Testament, the Talmud, and the Qur'an, thinkers began to question Hell’s eternity, and to consider possible alternatives—hell’s rivals. Some imagined outright escape, others periodic but temporary relief within the torments. One option, including Purgatory and, in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, the Middle State, was to consider the punishments to be temporary and purifying. Despite these moral and theological hesitations, the idea of Hell has remained a historical and theological force until the present. In Hell and Its Rivals, Alan E. Bernstein examines an array of sources from within and beyond the three Abrahamic faiths—including theology, chronicles, legal charters, edifying tales, and narratives of near-death experiences—to analyze the origins and evolution of belief in Hell. Key social institutions, including slavery, capital punishment, and monarchy, also affected the afterlife beliefs of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Reflection on hell encouraged a stigmatization of "the other" that in turn emphasized the differences between these religions. Yet, despite these rivalries, each community proclaimed eternal punishment and answered related challenges to it in similar terms. For all that divided them, they agreed on the need for—and fact of—Hell.

Book excerpt: In a dimly lit cell, a man has awakened to find himself surrounded by the most unimaginable and barbaric things that not even his worst nightmare could conjure up. His captor, Seth Coker, takes the man on a journey into his twisted world of vengeance. A world that runs parallel with the horrors that could only be found in the deepest and darkest parts of hell. A world that bestows a wrath of chaos upon the wicked of our society who have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. Seth wasn't born a vigilante, nor did he seek out the role-it sought him out. A portion of our society feels that rapists, molesters, murderers and abusers should have rights, and anything beyond the normal punishment of confinement would be cruel and inhumane. Seth knows that the innocent are left without justice, while the wicked are roaming our streets without any remorse about the cruel and inhumane punishment that they bestow upon others. Offering up heart-pumping tales of revenge, suspense and horror in all its guises, this book is filled with dark humor, political incorrectness, gruesome and sadistic acts from beginning to end. Locating Hell in Islamic Traditions is the first book-length analytic study of the Muslim hell. It maps out a broad spectrum of Islamic attitudes toward hell, from the Quranic vision(s) of hell to the pious cultivation of the fear of the afterlife, theological speculations, metaphorical and psychological understandings, and the modern transformations of hell. Contributors: Frederick Colby, Daniel de Smet, Christiane Gruber, Jon Hoover, Mohammad Hassan Khalil, Christian Lange, Christopher Melchert, Simon O’Meara, Samuela Pagani, Tommaso Tesei, Roberto Tottoli, Wim Raven, and Richard van Leeuwen.

Book excerpt: God Decides He is fed up with the way that Lucifer and his demons have been disgracing and destroying the human Souls on Earth. God calls together a war council to plan a three prong war to end all evil on Earth and in hell, while protecting Heaven itself. God's goal is to offer forgiveness for those devils, demons and evil Souls to repent and seek forgiveness from God for all their sinful deeds. God also intends to offer Lucifer this same offer. All devils, demons and evil Souls who want to come back to the light of God will be forgiven and allowed entrance into Heaven. Those Devils, demons, and evil Souls who refuse God's offer will be immediately destroyed. One of God's armies will protect Heaven while the war begins on Earth and in Hell. A second army of various types of Angels will coordinate the attack on Earth. When Earth is conquered, a third of an extremely trained and powerful army will attack the gates of Hell and begin the destruction of each level of Hell. God orders that Lucifer is not to be killed or severely injured until His special envoy can deliver God's personal message. The special envoy God selected was "Mallory of the Angels". An angel loved second only to Jesus. An Angel of love and forgiveness. This special envoywould require exteme protection while in Hell. Three Angel Generals were selected for this chore, Solrac, Samot, and Noel. When Hell is in the hands of God's forces, Lucifer is captured and brought to Mallory of the Angels. She then proceeds to explain God's offer for forgiveness or for destruction. Luicifer is given a moment to choose.
