Book excerpt: Do you ever find that the earth stills and you suddenly feel acutely alive? Have you ever looked into an animal's eyes and felt the pull of a more primal world? Do you sometimes feel panic rise, or isolation sink upon you, or simply feel out of kilter with the modern world? 'Inside my cauldron is a thick fistful of paper, old diary entries, work "to do" lists, notes I wrote while I was in a bad place and feeling trapped in a life that was keeping my mind small and narrow; thoughts and feelings that are holding me back, keeping me tied to a time I want to let go of. These papers are flashes of lightning across a darkened room and I want them gone. As they curl and burn, twisting in their black spirals like the farewell flourish of a travelling cloak, a sense of calm sweeps through my chest and shoulders. I feel it so strongly, like a blast of ice to my system, shivering out the old thoughts. I'm burning a path for something new to come in.' One winter, Jennifer Lane reached breaking point in her fast-paced office life. In the year that followed her stress-related illness, she set out to rediscover the solace and purpose that witchcraft had given her as a teenager. The Wheel is an immersive, engaging read - exploring the life-long draw of witchcraft and our vulnerability to toxic working environments and digital demands. In her year-long journey Jennifer explores ancient festivals and rituals, and visits fellow pagans and wild landscapes, in search of wisdom and peace. For those who are sick at heart of noise, anger and disconnection, The Wheel is full of wise words, crackling rituals and natural beauty. This is a quest to discover how to live fully connected to the natural world while firmly in the twenty-first century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roughly half the world's population speaks languages derived from a shared linguistic source known as Proto-Indo-European. But who were the early speakers of this ancient mother tongue, and how did they manage to spread it around the globe? Until now their identity has remained a tantalizing mystery to linguists, archaeologists, and even Nazis seeking the roots of the Aryan race. The Horse, the Wheel, and Language lifts the veil that has long shrouded these original Indo-European speakers, and reveals how their domestication of horses and use of the wheel spread language and transformed civilization. Linking prehistoric archaeological remains with the development of language, David Anthony identifies the prehistoric peoples of central Eurasia's steppe grasslands as the original speakers of Proto-Indo-European, and shows how their innovative use of the ox wagon, horseback riding, and the warrior's chariot turned the Eurasian steppes into a thriving transcontinental corridor of communication, commerce, and cultural exchange. He explains how they spread their traditions and gave rise to important advances in copper mining, warfare, and patron-client political institutions, thereby ushering in an era of vibrant social change. Anthony also describes his fascinating discovery of how the wear from bits on ancient horse teeth reveals the origins of horseback riding. The Horse, the Wheel, and Language solves a puzzle that has vexed scholars for two centuries--the source of the Indo-European languages and English--and recovers a magnificent and influential civilization from the past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not a fortune telling book. It is to be used as a guidance tool, a way to look back at the ancient times and see what is still relevant today. I have found inner joy in creating this book and artwork to help people who are seeking confirmation and direction in everyday life. I have created the Ancient Wheel Book to add a fun element to seeking truth and wisdom. It is similar to a game yet it is a spiritual quest to find guidance and direction in everyday life. It is like a directional life compass. The Ancient Wheel is a personal navigational approach that will help you look more closely at your present path and personal strengths. It can be used daily, weekly or monthly to assist you in moving forward in life. The Ancient Wheel is a way to see life through a spiritual perspective or a spiritual lens. It is best to seek guidance and direction in a quiet space. Sometimes we get mentally twisted from all the unsocial media, TV programing, news, and negative energies we allow into our lives. Go outdoors, seek the truth, and look for answers to your questions. There are signs and hints from the universe when you are actively searching and using all of your senses. It is time to find out what the Ancient Wheel's message is for you. You can pick a random number from one to thirty-six to start, use a random number selector on the internet, or open the book to whatever page to see what shows up. On the following pages are directions on how to make your own ancient wheel. I use numbered wooden and stone pieces from one through thirty-six. I draw the numbers from a cloth bag. How to make Ancient Wheel stones and grid: You can make an Ancient Wheel grid for your stones numbered from 1 to 36. This step is optional because it can be played with the pieces alone that are numbered from 1 to 36. The round grid can be made from wood, paper, cardboard, clay, cloth, or leather. Be creative. How to make the playing pieces: Create game pieces from paper, stones, clay, wood, popsicle sticks, or postcards. You can start by writing, painting, engraving, or wood burning numbers from 1 to 36. This is a personal creative process and the end result is your personal set. Here are some examples below to choose from and remember to add your own artwork: Create 36 index cards numbered 1 through 36. Create 36 black stones numbered 1 through 36 Create 36 wooden circles numbered 1 through 36 The pieces need to be all small, all medium or all large, it is very important that 1-through 36 are made from the same material and are all similar sizes. When you are picking the numbers from a bag you should not be able to tell what number it is by the shape or feel of it. Example: Use 36 popsicle sticks, 36 small black stones, 36 index cards, 36 wooden circles or 36 squares and draw from a bag or box with your eyes closed. Once the project is finished, you can store the 36 stones or pieces in a cloth bag. The stones will now have your personal energy and should be very accurate in reading for yourself or others. Empowering Choices, Life Coach, Sandy Schneider

Book excerpt: The Ancient Wheel is a booklet designed specifically for the Ancient Wheel gaming cards and stones. This booklet explains what each number represents from 1 through 36. The purpose of drawing stones or cards is to have a simple way to learn about ancient belief systems and how they may apply to you on a weekly, monthly or daily basis. I like to pick 4 cards or 4 stones. Sometimes I will draw stones or cards several times a week to see if there is any patterns, if I picked the same animal several times for example a tortoise, that would mean that I need to slow down and take time before making a choice, and it is important to choose in an awakened state. Number 2 stone or card is making the right choice. Here is an example of what you will see if you picked #2 stone or card: 2: Meaning: Choices Hebrew: Beth- Home, Family, Temple, Duality, Separation, Balance, Double witness of truth Animals: Tortoise - Awakening Gemstones: Topaz, Pitdah, Peridot, Chrysolite Revelation: Sapphire- devotion, faithful, protection Color/Chakra: Yellow Sacral: Orange Tone: D above middle C, bass, percussion, woodwind chimes Power:115 This is the first edition. There will be more editions. The first edition is for people who are already familiar with colors, chakras, animals, gemstones, numbers, sound healing, etc. I want to explain more about each category in future editions so that it is simple and effective for everyone to use as a healing tool and to inspire and give you confirmations, signs and ways to move forward in your life. The main purpose is to learn that there are hidden messages that may be revealed if you take the time to look for guidance or answers through prayer and quiet time. It is time to awaken. This is a creative way to heal and learn about ancient numbers and beliefs.

Thirty years of hunting them down and collecting has resulted in one of the most impressive early bike collections in the world. It includes 160 pre-1900 bicycles, including hobby horses, boneshakers and Penny Farthings, as well as early 20th-century models. The collection charts the development of the bicycle, which foreshadows the invention of the motor car in many surprising ways. It also shows wider social change and the role the bicycle has played in female emancipation, war and its progression from plaything of the wealthy to utilitarian mode of transport of the masses.

This richly illustrated study explains this anomaly. Drawing on archaeology, art, technology, anthropology, linguistics, and camel husbandry, Bulliet explores the implications for the region's economic and social development during the Middle Ages and into modern times.
