Download or read book Black Soldier, White Army written by William T. Bowers and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997-05 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the 24th Infantry regiment in Korea is a difficult one, both for the veterans of the unit & for the Army. This book tells both what happened to the 24th Infantry, & why it happened. The Army must be aware of the corrosive effects of segregation & the racial prejudices that accompanied it. The consequences of the system crippled the trust & mutual confidence so necessary among the soldiers & leaders of combat units & weakened the bonds that held the 24th together, producing profound effects on the battlefield. Tables, maps & illustrations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An infantryman’s honest account of his experiences during the controversial Vietnam War, this book chronicles the courage and dedication that the American soldiers demonstrated while away from loved ones, in a foreign land where hanging by a thread was the norm every day. It openly discusses the challenges and sacrifices each man had to make in order to survive and protect the lives of his comrades, and it casts a light on the shortcomings of the US government and of those in authority who could have abated the terrifying number of casualties through proper planning and sound judgment. The author, Brian Richard Esher, had witnessed firsthand the horrors of the war and had many close encounters with death. He was sent to Vietnam in 1968, the worst year in terms of casualties. He served with the 25th Infantry Division, 4th Battalion of the 23rd Infantry Mechanized, and received several medals, including the second-highest military award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross

Book Synopsis The Other End of the Spear by : John J. Mcgrath
Download or read book The Other End of the Spear written by John J. Mcgrath and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-09-16 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at several troop categories based on primary function and analyzes the ratio between these categories to develop a general historical ratio. This ratio is called the Tooth-to-Tail Ratio. McGrath's study finds that this ratio, among types of deployed US forces, has steadily declined since World War II, just as the nature of warfare itself has changed. At the same time, the percentage of deployed forces devoted to logistics functions and to base and life support functions have increased, especially with the advent of the large-scale of use of civilian contractors. This work provides a unique analysis of the size and composition of military forces as found in historical patterns. Extensively illustrated with charts, diagrams, and tables. Download or read book U.S. Army Infantry Divisions, 1943-1945 written by Yves J. Bellanger and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first of a two-volume study, the author presents an extremely detailed record of the organization, doctrine and equipment of U.S. Army infantry divisions during the latter part of World War II. After examining the state of the U.S. Army during the 1940-43 period, the author focuses on the 1943-45 period, and presents each of the division's sub-units-- from the divisional HQ to an infantry battalion, from the divisional artillery to its combat engineer element. For each, the author examines their organization (down to the lowest level possible), their training and tactical doctrine, and the equipment, vehicles and weapons they used. The information given for each division includes: divisional insignia illustrated; alongside the division's motto(s); full list of units assigned to the division; full list of units temporarily attached to the division, e.g. tank destroyer battalions, including dates of attachment; complete lists of staff and regimental commanders within the division, including dates served, assignment of division to higher formations (e.g. corps); and extremely detailed combat chronology recording the division's activities. This amounts to a virtual combat diary.
Book Synopsis Command Deployment Discipline Handbook by : United States Army
Download or read book Command Deployment Discipline Handbook written by United States Army and published by . This book was released on 2014-12-08 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Command Deployment Discipline Program (CDDP) is a commander's tool designed to enhance unit deployment readiness. This handbook is a combination of doctrinal and regulatory tasks that address Army standards, fundamentally focused on equipment movement and associated tasks from division to company level, to include installation tasks.Following 13 years of conflict, our Army is transitioning to an expeditionary force that is primarily based in the continental United States. Many of our Army's junior leaders, having become accustomed to rotationally deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), have limited experience in executing short-notice deployments. Deployments in the recent past have been characterized by units receiving equipment in theater rather than deploying all of their organic equipment from home station, as well as the robust use of contractors throughout the deployment and reception, staging, onward-movement, and integration process. In many cases, the fundamental skills required to execute short-notice deployments involving all of a unit's organic equipment have atrophied over the past years.
