Little is known about other police work, such as the constable. And yet other alternative policing positions are of vital importance to law enforcement. This book remedies that imbalance in the literature on policing.

Book excerpt: Jottings is a collection of poems written over a period of twenty years. Most of the poems in this collection are contextual. Written in different genres of poetry, while some of the poems appear as general statements but having a bearing on nature. Others are responses of the poet to social/economic/political issues and those related to women. The poems reflect the mood and views of the poet. While poems like "A Symbol of Beauty," "Horizon," "Loss" appear simple, they have an underlying meaning, the philosophy of life. In poems like "Disgusting" and "To a Brave Son," the poet points an accusing finger at the powers that be for the sorry state of affairs. "Love" brings out the true meaning of the word while describing the different stages in the life of a person. The life of a girl child form the theme of "Who Am I." The hapless condition of young women and children, especially girls, are brought to fore in "To Ponnus and Malalas" and "Sadist Minds." "Down Memory Lane" goes back in time. There are also satirical poems that take potshots at and ridicule the superstitious and the believers like "Light That Darkens," "In Fool's Paradise," "Onam," and "In Your Name." Again, while "Bapu" is on Mahatma Gandhi and his ideals, it ridicules all those who earned fame in his name. While "Motherland's Boys" talks of the deterioration of India-Pakistan relations, "How Many More Children Will You Kill" chides Israelis and Palestinians for deaths of innocent children. "An Unknown Past" looks at an old person struggling in vain to open the locked doors of her memory. There are also poems that talk of a personal loss and some that snub individuals that make haughty statements. All the illustrations in the book are by cartoonist and animator Mr. Swathi Jaikumar.

They integrate management and statistical analysis functions, public and business administration functions, and applications of psychology, natural science, physical fitness, and marksmanship. They also assimilate theories of education, organizational behavior, economics, law and public policy, and many others. Modern law enforcement is a blend of both theoretical knowledge and applied practice that continuously changes through time. With contributions by nine authors offering a diverse presentation, Introduction to Law Enforcement goes beyond the linear perspective found in most law enforcement texts and offers multiple perspectives and discussions regarding both private and public entities. Through this approach, readers gain an understanding of several dimensions of the subject matter. Topics discussed include: Contemporary crime trends Policing ethics Law enforcement history The functions of modern law enforcement agencies Homeland security Public service Human resources The path of a case from arrest through incarceration and post-release Local, state, regional, federal, and tribal law enforcement agencies Private enforcement organizations Adaptable across a wide range of learning environments, the book uses a convenient format organized by agency type. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Texas law of search and seizure is governed only in part by the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution. Texas courts have held that Article 1, Section 9 of the Texas Constitution may provide greater or less protection than the Fourth Amendment, and the Texas legislature has enacted many statutory provisions dictating the practices and procedures that must be followed in making arrests and conducting searches. These statutes have been the subject of interpretation and application by Texas courts. As a result, the Texas law of search and seizure is distinctive. That distinctive body of law is the subject of this book.Because most arrest and search decisions are made and actions are taken initially by law-enforcement officers with little time for reflection, and, often, under stressful conditions, it is essential to their being competent and effective in the performance of their duties that they have adequate knowledge of, and ready access to, the law. This book is intended to provide that knowledge and access. This book is a special edition of the forthcoming book TEXAS SEARCH AND SEIZURE 3rd EDITION. TEXAS SEARCH AND SEIZURE 3rd EDITION is designed for use by judges and attorneys. This Law Enforcement Edition is designed for use by law-enforcement officers. The text also contains endnotes that cite cases, statutes and treatises in support of statements contained in the text. Also, there are small, elevated letters that are contained in Cross References boxes at the end of sections and subsections of the book, and refer the user to other sections and subsections in which particular subjects and related subjects are discussed. The book contains model forms designed for use by law enforcement officers. At the end of the section on Arrest With Warrant, there are forms of complaints that may be used to have warrants and capiases issued. At the end of the section on Search With Warrant, there are forms of affidavits that may be used to have warrants issued, and a form for consent to search.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Texas criminal justice system has come a long way since the early 1990s, when a vicious crime spree by paroled murderer Kenneth McDuff convinced lawmakers and citizens that the system had broken down. In this book, District Attorney Ken Anderson describes major reforms that followed the McDuff case as he provides a complete overview of the criminal justice system in Texas. Using simple language that any citizen can understand, Anderson describes all aspects of the system--officials (police, prosecutors, judges), criminal procedure, criminal law, criminal punishments, victims' rights, and the juvenile system. He illustrates his points with real-life stories of crime and punishment. Throughout the book, Anderson emphasizes two facts--that crime prevention programs, stricter law enforcement, and increased prison space have dramatically lowered the crime rate in Texas and that citizen activism is very effective in bringing reform to the criminal justice system. This book will be essential reading for everyone--public and professional--concerned with criminal justice in Texas.
