Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational processes and the organization-environment interaction are discussed in this volume of the Handbook of Work and Organizational Psychology. Both organizational and environmental characteristics affect the behaviour of individuals and groups, but such characteristics are in turn also influenced by behavioural features. This volume on organizational psychology covers subject areas such as organization theory, organizational culture and change, leadership, decision making and participation, motivation and satisfaction, payment systems, effective communication, and social-organizational aspects of automation. The final chapter describes the impact upon behaviour and attitudes of the transition of a socialist-led society to a market economy.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Motivation and Cognition Across Cultures by : Richard Sorrentino
Download or read book Handbook of Motivation and Cognition Across Cultures written by Richard Sorrentino and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-28 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a wealth of new research in cognition, particularly in relation to supporting theoretical constructs about how cognitions are formed, processed, reinforced, and how they then affect behavior. Many of these theories have arisen and been tested in geographic isolation. It remains to be seen whether theories that purport to describe cognition in one culture will equally prove true in other cultures. The Handbook of Motivation and Cognition Across Cultures is the first book to look at these theories specifically with culture in mind. The book investigates universal truths about motivation and cognition across culture, relative to theories and findings indicating cultural differences. Coverage includes the most widely cited researchers in cognition and their theories- as seen through the looking glass of culture. The chapters include self-regulation by Tory Higgins, unconscious thought by John Bargh, attribution theory by Bernie Weiner, and self-verification by Bill Swann, among others. The book additionally includes some of the best new researchers in cross-cultural psychology, with contributors from Germany, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia. In the future, culture may be the litmus test of a theory before it is accepted, and this book brings this question to the forefront of cognition research. Includes contributions from researchers from Germany, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia for a cross-cultural panel Provides a unique perspective on the effect of culture on scientific theories and data
Book Synopsis Stimulus Class Formation in Humans and Animals by : T.R. Zentall
Download or read book Stimulus Class Formation in Humans and Animals written by T.R. Zentall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-10-24 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stimulus class formation has been studied independently by two groups of researchers. One group has come out of a learning theory approach, while the second has developed out of a behavior analytic tradition. The purpose of the present volume is to further establish the ties between these two research areas while allowing for differences in approach to the questions asked. The book is loosely organized around four themes. The first two sections deal with what constitutes functional and equivalence classes in animals and humans. In the third section, the authors attempt to identify stimulus control variables that contribute to the formation of equivalences classes. The last section deals with the complex issue of the role of verbal behavior in equivalence classes. The goal of the book is to provide the reader with a better understanding of the current state of research and theory in stimulus class formation. It is also hoped that it will stimulate research into how and under what conditions, stimulus classes can form.

Book Synopsis Omitted Variable Tests and Dynamic Specification by : Björn Schmolck
Download or read book Omitted Variable Tests and Dynamic Specification written by Björn Schmolck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the omitted variable test for a multivariate time-series regression model. The empirical motivation is the homogeneity test for a consumer demand system. The consequences of using a dynamically misspecified omitted variable test are shown in detail. The analysis starts with the univariate t-test and is then extended to the multivariate regression system. The small sample performance of the dynamically correctly specified omitted variable test is analysed by simulation. Two classes of tests are considered: versions of the likelihood ratio test and the robust Wald test which is based on a heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation consistent variance-covariance estimator (HAC).
Book Synopsis Handbook of Cross-Cultural and Multicultural Personality Assessment by : Richard H. Dana
Download or read book Handbook of Cross-Cultural and Multicultural Personality Assessment written by Richard H. Dana and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2000-02 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world as in the United States, psychologists are increasingly being called upon to evaluate clients whose backgrounds differ from their own. It has long been recognized that standard personality and psychopathology assessment instruments carry cultural biases, and in recent years, efforts to correct these biases have accelerated. The Handbook of Cross-Cultural and Multicultural Personality Assessment brings together researchers and practitioners from 12 countries with diverse ethnic and racial identities and training to present state-of-the-art knowledge about how best to minimize cultural biases in the assessment of personality and psychopathology. They consider research methodology, the design and construction of standard objective and projective tests, the use of measures of acculturation, racial identity, and culture-specific tests, the social etiquette of service delivery, and the interpretation of test data for clinical diagnosis. Ranging widely through all the relevant issues, they share a common collective vision of how culturally competent services should be delivered to clients. The Handbook offers the first comprehensive view of a consistent approach to cultural competence in assessment--a necessary precursor of effective intervention. It will become an indispensable reference for all those whose practice or research involves individuals with different ethnic and racial identities.
