Download or read book The Practical Cookbook written by Margaret W. Howard and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-07-31 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the PREFACE. This book presents a rather large collection of tested and economical recipes, in such a manner as to show their relation to one another and to the whole question of balanced meals. The plan of the book is novel, but it is hoped that it will the more commend itself to the public for that very reason. It is absolutely essential that the General Directions which accompany each group of recipes should be read and followed; also that the references should be carefully traced. If the housekeeper calculates the cost of each dish as she prepares it, the columns headed Price will serve as a reasonably accurate guide to the cost of her daily meals. The book has grown out of many years of classroom work, and the arrangement is designed, by omitting air unnecessary directions, to force the student to reason out the recipes for herself. But it is a cookbook, not a textbook, and laboratory directions and explanatory text are purposely omitted. In preparing the book, the bulletins of the United States Department of Agriculture, magazines dealing with the subject of food, and many standard works on dietetics and the preparation of food have been freely consulted. The author wishes to express her gratitude to the many friends who have allowed her to use their original recipes, as well as to those who have read and criticized the manuscript. MARGARET W. HOWARD

Book Synopsis The Practical Family Recipe Cookbook by : Kornel Gyalokay
Download or read book The Practical Family Recipe Cookbook written by Kornel Gyalokay and published by Bookbaby. This book was released on 2018-09-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thank you for considering adding this book to your culinary reference library lineup. This book delivers a collection of proven Americanized European recipes and by Americanized, I mean to say that the recipes tone down the fats/sugars where they don't hinder holding onto the original flavors. If you like sitting down to a wonderfully delicious meal it's probably reason enough to purchase this book, however I've taken the time to also provide you with content that other cookbooks annoyingly omit. Every recipe in this book is accompanied by a full color photo so you will know what your dish is going to look like before you start. Every recipe in this book is accompanied by a nutrition label so you will know what the per serving nutritional values are before you bite into it. Every recipe in this book has a verified time to make measurement, giving you that critical edge to know if you have enough time to make the dish before the family rebels, or at least give you the heads up on when you should start on your dish if you are expecting guests. Considering that we need daily sustenance to maintain our strength, learning how to cook is clearly a practical and worthwhile endeavor. This book not only provides recipes but also valuable cooking tips, a how to equip your kitchen check-list, a measurements and conversations chart and a protein temperature guide to encourage and strengthen you to become a better cook. Most importantly, this book provides the very best recipes that I find myself repeatedly crafting as either daily meals or holiday specials. Sure, there are thousands of recipes out there in the wild, but what you find in this book is limited to our proven and very best family success dishes. Imagine having a book 100% full of worthwhile recipes to make, I believe this is it. Enjoy your time in the kitchen!

Book Synopsis Culinary Landmarks by : Elizabeth Driver
Download or read book Culinary Landmarks written by Elizabeth Driver and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2008-04-05 with total page 1326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Culinary Landmarks is a definitive history and bibliography of Canadian cookbooks from the beginning, when La cuisinière bourgeoise was published in Quebec City in 1825, to the mid-twentieth century. Over the course of more than ten years Elizabeth Driver researched every cookbook published within the borders of present-day Canada, whether a locally authored text or a Canadian edition of a foreign work. Every type of recipe collection is included, from trade publishers' bestsellers and advertising cookbooks, to home economics textbooks and fund-raisers from church women's groups. The entries for over 2,200 individual titles are arranged chronologically by their province or territory of publication, revealing cooking and dining customs in each part of the country over 125 years. Full bibliographical descriptions of first and subsequent editions are augmented by author biographies and corporate histories of the food producers and kitchen-equipment manufacturers, who often published the books. Driver's excellent general introduction sets out the evolution of the cookbook genre in Canada, while brief introductions for each province identify regional differences in developments and trends. Four indexes and a 'Chronology of Canadian Cookbook History' provide other points of access to the wealth of material in this impressive reference book.

Book Synopsis Smiley's Manual of Practical Information and Standard Household Guide by : James Bethuel Smiley
Download or read book Smiley's Manual of Practical Information and Standard Household Guide written by James Bethuel Smiley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Smiley's Manual of Practical Information and Standard Household Guide: A Book Adapted to the Every-Day Use of the People, Comprising a Treasury of Domestic Recipes, and Being a Reliable Guide for Conducting the Various Departments of Household Work Within the last few years much excellent work has been done by the scientists who have been investigating the chemistry of cooking and the chemical com position and nutritive value of the different foods. We have endeavored to clearly present to our readers the most important results of their labors, for we believe the time has come for housekeepers to understand both the composition of foods and their nutritive value, as well as the chemical changes produced in them by the various operations of cooking. For years we have been gathering material for this book, resulting in the accumulation of a great mass of recipes. These have been culled and tested, and in making selections our rule has been to choose those which were most sima ple and economical, because the book is primarily designed for the use of the masses, whose means are always limited, and we aim to meet their every day wants, although we present also an ample number of more elaborate recipes suitable for special occasions. Our endeavor has been to make the collection. As complete and comprehensive as possible, and to give new, choice and well-tested recipes in every department of household cookery.
