Book Synopsis That's Enough, Freddy From! by : Frederick Rennie From
Download or read book That's Enough, Freddy From! written by Frederick Rennie From and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this whimsical, understated and wide-ranging autobiography, author Frederick Rennie From recounts his own life while also providing a kind of eyewitness account of the fortunes of everyday Australians throughout the 20th century and into the new millennium. Born a sickly infant, From became a cane-cutter, then a soldier, and finally a farmer-forester. Along the way he led a life filled with drama: blood-curdling accidents, fearsome escapes from flood, fire and small-town law-breaking, and even managing to survive three separate theatres of combat during World War II and the Korean War. We are left with a sense of how Australian life in decades past was marked by endeavour, hard labour and hard times, yet was also rich in humanity, incident and fun. What is notable is that the author has managed to recount the saga of a long life without dwelling on pain, noticing boredom or inflicting calumny on anyone. Where others might have seen unkindness, criminal incompetence, even cruelty, he remembers only human foibles at worst and kindness at best. Above all this book demonstrates how the quintessentially Aussie traits of fortitude, humour, observation and assessment flow down the generations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terry thought that his life would change drastically when he became a Christian, and it did, but not in the way that he thought it would. Instead of life being easier, it became much harder, each day filled with temptations that were challenges to his newfound faith. His feelings about himself and those around him intensified, and when he felt himself sliding back into his old habits, his closest friends, Lolly and Nick, assured him that they were always there to support him, urged him not to lose his faith, and reminded that God would always give him the strength and wisdom to handle any problem. He wasn't so sure about that when his girlfriend Jenny came back from New York City after trying out for the New York Ballet and would no longer talk to him. After her trip to New York, Jenny too was struggling with her faith and began to question whether or not God even existed. She shut herself off from those around her, began to hate her father, and felt hopelessly lost. It was only through her friend, Lolly, that she again began to see things more clearly. But Terry continued to struggle, and it was only when the lives of all his friends had been threatened and he seemed to have lost everything did he come to know God and to understand his true purpose.

Book Synopsis A Call to Insurrection by : David Weber
Download or read book A Call to Insurrection written by David Weber and published by Baen Books. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book four in the nationally best-selling Manticore Ascendant series, set in the world of David Weber’s multiple New York Times best-selling Honorverse series. Yesterday, the Star Kingdom of Manticore was a small, unimportant interstellar backwater. A quiet little star nation, only recently recovered from the devastating blow of the Plague Years. More affluent than some, perhaps, but with little to attract trade or interstellar commerce, it had little need for a navy . . . and even less interest in paying for one. But Manticore has now become a target. The Star Kingdom isn't certain who is attacking it, or why, or what its mysterious foe can possibly want, but Queen Elizabeth I knows she has to find out. And she knows that whatever some of her subjects think, Manticore does need a navy. And it needs allies, friends like the dynamic Republic of Haven and the Andermani Empire. It needs their trade . . . and to learn from their more experienced and powerful navies. It is the job of officers like Travis Long and his wife, Lisa, to acquire that experience. Of utterly inexperienced diplomats like Travis's brother Gavin, Earl Winterfall, to build those alliances. They have been sent to the powerful Andermani Empire to do just that, for the Imperial Navy is one of the most potent and experienced fleets in the galaxy. But the Andermani have problems of their own. Their Emperor's death is the trigger for insurrection, and now that powerful and experienced navy is locked in civil war. The Manticoran visitors find themselves squarely in the path of the storm, and before Travis, Lisa, and Gavin can accomplish anything else, they first have to survive. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).
