Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Credit, Investments and the Macroeconomy by : Marco Mazzoli
Download or read book Credit, Investments and the Macroeconomy written by Marco Mazzoli and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-01-22 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book relates the literatures of finance, industrial economics and investment to the theoretical framework of the 'credit view'. Firstly it is assumed that banks' decisions concerning their assets are seen as at least as relevant as their decisions concerning their liabilities. Secondly, securities and bank credit are considered to be highly imperfect substitutes. In this regard it is important to investigate the way industrial and financial sectors interact. In particular, how is the macroeconomy affected by the phenomenon of 'securitization' and by exogenous changes in the industrial structure of the credit market. The interactions between real and financial sectors are also analysed from the point of view of the industrial firm, in a model where the investment and financial decisions of the firm are taken simultaneously.
Book Synopsis The Political Economy of Cooperatives and Socialism by : Bruno Jossa
Download or read book The Political Economy of Cooperatives and Socialism written by Bruno Jossa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-10 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that capitalism cannot be said to be truly democratic and that a system of producer cooperatives, or democratically managed enterprises, is needed to give rise to a new mode of production which is genuinely socialist and fully consistent with the ultimate rationale underlying Marx’s theoretical approach. The proposition that firms should be run by the workers on their own, was endorsed by John Dewey, the greatest social thinker of the twentieth century, but is also shared by Marxists such as Anton Pannekoek, Karl Korsch, Angelo Tasca, Antonio Gramsci and Richard Wolff. This book explores the history of this argument taking in concepts from economic and political thought including historical materialism, cooperation, utopianism and economic democracy. The book will be of significant interest to scholars and students of political economy, Marxism, socialism, history of economic thought and political theory.

Download or read book Equity, Efficiency and Growth written by Mario Baldassarri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-23 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the post-war period, spending on social security, health and education has grown continuously in the leading industrialized countries. The considerable size of this spending as a percentage of GDP together with the ageing population raise doubts on the sustainability of welfare spending. These doubts have been accompanied in recent years by an increasing awareness of the allocational inefficiencies and the distributive inequalities caused by the provision of some social services. The welfare state should therefore be reconstructed not only through readjustment of the social security system but also a change in unemployment benefits and the taxation of workers to avoid the perverse spiral that may be produced in the future by cuts in welfare benefits, growing unemployment and the need to further reduce the social security services.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By exploring the price dynamics and business cycle of the Italian economy with reference to the most important international events, this text sheds new light on the country's current situation. Using a long-term analytical framework underpinned by principal theoretical approaches, the analysis places particular emphasis on price dynamics. The text begins with the country's post-war difficulties and then covers the boom-and-bust period of the "Italian miracle", before moving onto the lasting inflationary process of the 70s and 80s, and finally the financial crisis of the 90s and the beginning of the new century. The book also investigates the positive and negative aspects of policy measures. An important implication of this approach is that it assesses the different evolutionary aspects of the Italian economic structure, which in turn gives way to an analysis of the dynamic behaviour of policy makers and social partners.

Book Synopsis Production, Distribution and Trade by : Adriano Birolo
Download or read book Production, Distribution and Trade written by Adriano Birolo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-06-30 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection brings together significant new contributions to the Sraffa--based theories of production and distribution, from post-Keynesian arguments concerning monetary and macro economics to the history of thought and methodology. All of the authors are well established authorities in their field, and in this book they add stimulating and original pieces of analysis to the contemporary literature. Production, Distribution and Trade is divided into three parts. The first explores analytical issues in production and exchange theory, the second examines Postkeynesian Macroeconomics and the final part includes essays on the history of economic thought and methodology. This collection has been written in honour of Sergio Parrinello and is a fitting tribute to his untiring efforts to stimulate discussion among Classicists, Marxists, Postkeynesians, and Evolutionists. The book is a clear and convincing attempt to prove that an alternative paradigm to mainstream economics is alive and thriving and to argue that these perspectives shed better light on current economic problems, both as diagnosis and in terms of policy conclusions. The book will be of interest to Economics postgraduate students and researchers working in the Classical and Postkeynesian tradition.
